Just finished my first short run in the Superblast. So far so good! One key advantage over Nike is that the Superblast has a removable insole and my Protalus M100 orthotics fit nicely inside. I have been a Nike runner for years but lately have moved away because so many of their lightweight road shoes have the insole glued in, and in my old age I need an orthotic for a sensitive heel.
Try doing low heat with a heat gun or hair dryer for a minute or so to remove an insole that's been stepped and walked in. It should losen the glue for you to remove.

An interesting if slightly puzzling shoe to me. It kind of looks like a beefed up Novablast 3 and yet the price has been beefed up massively as well. Are we just going to be paying nearly double for a bit of foam from the Metaspeed Sky+ & Edge+ or maybe the price hike is almost to keep the justification for the price of those racing shoes. Or are we actually paying more for a "better" shoe full stop. I note you mentioned you seem to go for your normal size and yet the Novablast 3 typically runs long for many runners including me. I’m also loving the Novablast 3, and last years version was the shoe I ran most in besides the Nike Invincible 1. I have been a subscribed follower for 4-5 years, and really enjoy your honest perspectives, reviews and vlogs. I also appreciate your emphasis on disclosing “where” the reviewed gear comes from, as well as potential bias, like in this case with Asics. When it comes to Nike, I’ve been missing your reviews of the new staples other then Pegasus 39 and Vomero 16, particularly the new Alphafly, Pegasus Turbo, Zoom Fly and Invincible, all of which you previously have reviewed. Is there any reason for that?
A lot of people have already reviewed those shoes, and sometimes we want a new review to come out saying something different when maybe there’s nothing to add. I’ve noticed that too, but on the bright side there are some great reviews here of shoes that other people have just lightly brushed over, and I say lightly brushed over because they haven’t really given them an honest try before writing the review. 25-30 miles isn’t great testing and even for someone who has put a lot of shoes on their feet. There’s nothing special about reviewing shoes that seem to be meh and don’t have a foreseeable upside just because of brand loyalty and I’d rather see a shoe model recognized over a shoe line or a brand, as they have changed so much recently.
Some thoughts since there are inevitably numerous comments about price in the comment columns of the reviews of this shoe: This shoe would not be for me-I’ll stick with the NovaBlast3. But first of all, why should the inclusion of a plate or not be necessarily linked to price anymore? Are plates really significant in cost or are we being manipulated because of the past novelty of it which isn’t really a novelty anymore? The point is whether a shoe works great for you and its use case, or not. Regardless, this one is indeed very pricey, but my next point: I recommend everyone who lives where there’s an independent running store (not part of a chain) with a run club look into whether they offer discounts. I have a favorite store in a city we visit several times a year and if I pay cash I not only get their club discount (as a regular and frequent customer over the years) but an additional one. If you get the get to know the owners & staff of such a store, you’re not only supporting brick and mortar indie business, but you get the try on and test the shoe first, and they might also even order it for you in the colorway of your choice. The more expensive the shoe, the more significant the discount as it’s a %. I’m sure not all stores can do this but I bet plenty do. They may also return the shoe for you even after wearing it if it doesn’t work for you.
Looks good but the price is a no go imo. You can get a higher stack Boston 11 which also has carbon rods for long run trainings for $170 and under (on sale). Alternatively you just get a much cheaper novablast. Not sure why they priced it so high.
Many are complaining about the price but seems to me this shoe kinda does everything and leans towards faster miles. How many people buy other “super shoes” that are way over $200 and only lasts 200-300 miles. This shoe could be a cushy fast race shoe that you can also log a lot of miles.
@@davidrosenthal5795true. The asics superblast are some of the best I've ever used.... Just ordered the metaspeed sky plus as my 2md running shoe. I'll just alternate between the 2 but if the sky plus are anything like the superblasts then I'm in for a treat
Its the only one non carbon plate competition shoes with high energy return on the market and the most comfortable on this segment price 👏 the price is reasonable for me
On first sight of the 'studio' shots my thoughts were: what an odd colour choice, but out in the autumnal backdrop they look great......they've got to look good...I'm so vein 🙂
I'm debating between this one and New Balance Fresh Foam More V4 which has a 4mm drop compare to this one at 8mm. I've had a previous knee injury (meniscus tear) and I read that lower drop shoe will be better on my knees when running. Is that true in your opinion? Thanks!
If judging only by the look i would definitely buy one. Mushmelon, or Cantaloupe to be precise, is my favorite fruit. I wonder if Superblast is more close to NB supercomp or prime X from adidas ? Can't wait for a comparison test among these 3 " illegal shoes ".
I am looking for a Long Run Shoe where I can throw Marathon but also faster paces, it seems this is a good solution in your opinion...is this the best for this "scope" or would you suggest other shoes better suited? My favourite everyday and easy long Run shoe is the Invincible and love the ZoomX, but also enjoy the Novablast....but they do not work for those faster paces at the end of very long runs
Followup on my Superblast experience=not good:( I am 66 years old, 6ft 2inches and 195 lbs. Big old runner. Was doing an easy run in these shoes, 2nd run with them, and at about 3.5 miles my left hamstring had a strain and I had to walk home. Took a week off and did a 3.7 mile easy run in my regular Hoka Tecton X shoes and no problems. Tried the Superblast again today and had the hamstring strain again. So these shoes basically injure me. A shame because I love the fit and they feel great. I think they are letting my heel drop too far with each stride because the foam is too soft for my weight. I am not dissing the shoe. Wonderful shoe but did not work for me in a big way. I have not had any hamstring issues in probably 30 years and these days I still try and do 3x400 at 5:40ish pace and never any problems, so it is definitely the shoes.
That’s up to you. Prime x is plated, which gives you a propulsive ride. We’ll have to find out when Superblast releases on 12-01 to unprivileged general public. 😅
👀 tempting, but with that price 😬. I will wait if they’re on a good sale like most of the shoes I buy 😆😆. I don’t mind waiting 🤷🏻♂️. Great review as always. Have a great day of travel to NY. Have fun Ko.
I've just recently started running, got some Asics Gel Nimbus 24 shoes, but after less than 3 months of use a hole has opened up in the upper where my big toe is. I'll be going with Adidas Boston 11 for my next shoes, they're half the price I paid for the Asics but seem to be highly regarded.
if I may offer some unsolicited advice, try going to a running store for your next shoe for two reasons: (1) make sure you actually like the Boston 11 for how it feels and not just what it costs. (2) make sure someone measures your foot and gets you in the right size shoe.
@@kofuzi Thanks, I've also been told to do that by other runners. It may be possible for me now to go to some shoe stores and check, as I live in China and restrictions are now being rapidly lifted, the next time I'm in Shenzhen I could go check. No shoe stores where I am an hour out of the city, but plenty of beautiful seaside roads for running, some even don't allow cars!
Another great review! Just curious if I already have Endorphin Speed 3 and Endorphin Pro 3 in my rotation, do you think it's worth getting Superblast? I'm a non elite runner and run 5km each day except Sunday and rainy days. I find Speed and Pro have not been aggressive or poppy enough for me. I want to improve my PB. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated 🙏🏼
I went to my normal running shoe store recently to try on the NovaBlast 3. They told me they didn't carry them because Asics is not popular. Asics is their #6 selling brand. What a shame! NovaBlast 2 is excellent, and I cannot wait to get NovaBlast 3 and SuperBlast. I wanted to try these two shoes along with the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3.
Questions - I noticed that my foot slaps the ground fast (noisy) in the Novablast 3. Is it the same geometry in the Superblast? Also.. I am back from Achilles Tendon injuries and did not run for 19 days.. I notice that in the Novablast my Achilles Tendon is sore.. Not in the Speed 2.. So.. Is the heel area more stable in the Superblast?
Im wondering if these would finally let me feel the Asics ‘magic’ so to speak. I’m a 185lb runner or so, and I bottom out in the novablast 2 for some reason. I try to give them multiple chances, but they always just feel soft and squishy with zero pop for me.
Prime X worked for me. Last time i checked the new version is already on sale. 200 lb runner....I have the old version and after running over the summer they are still bouncy. My previous favorite was Novablast but no comparison vs. X
Anyone here remembers Jamison Michael? He was the founder of MAGA - a movement to Make Asics Great Again. And now Asics has found itself and is on top of the game but sadly Jamison is nowhere to be found
It is an exciting shoe in that it's bridging the gap between max cushion longrun/recovery shoes that are heavier and intended for slower paces and the faster race/workout shoes - an interesting market. I'd personally lean towards just having two different shoes (which would be the same price as these 😂). The cost is just crazy though. A daily trainer reaching the monetary levels of marathon super shoes is ridiculous and a concerning precedent to set.
If someone ran a Boston Qualifying time in shoes that aren't race-legal (over 40mm stack) would that make the BQ ineligible? Do they check? I've always wondered.
It kind of depends under what rules the race you are running is conducted under. In the UK, the guidance says "The World Athletics Shoe Rule introduced in July 2020, reference TR5.2 - 5.6, does apply to competitions in the UK and athletes who wear shoes listed by World Athletics as not compliant with the Rules will be liable to disqualification and any records set will not be ratified." So "technically" anybody could be disqualified but the chances of anybody checking especially if you aren't in the leading positions is questionable for sure.
@@TimGrose @Matt Swainston I see - So basically there's a .0000001% chance of getting caught if you're a really mid/non-elite runner like me, haha. Thanks!
Your video clip mainly shows trail running. Is the Superblast a trail running shoes rather than a road running shoes like the Saucony Endomorphin Elite you featured that i just watched? Cheers
it's a soft surface in a park that I choose for marathon workouts. it's not exactly a trail, unless you define a trail as being not-cement. this is a road shoe.
Love the channel, a bit off topic but any recommendations for someone who just had nerve decompression surgery for Morton’s neuroma. I need large toe box, super squishy and a big rocker. I know your not a Dr but your definitely a subject matter expert. Any recommendations? Thanks 🙏
Great review! I live in Utah and was wondering if it will be released on ASICS website Dec 1? Or will u have a link on your channel to purchase it? Also, would this be a good shoe for jogger pace? Thanks!
I have to perform in 1600 meter race in 6:30 minutes solid sand track and Long Jump of 3.65 metres, PLEASE TELL ME which Nike would be best NIKE VAPORFLY NEXT %2 OR NIKE zoom streakfly premium or Nike React infinity run FlyKnit 3 ?
My issue with the Novablast 3 is that when running my feet slap the ground fast.. I had this also with the Vomero.. Like slapping your foot every step? I am a heel striker so probably the transition from the heel to the forefoot in to fast? Is it the same in the Superblast?
Would you say this is comparable to the Nike Invincible 2? If so, do you think this is an improvement or are they both similar? I'm trying to get my hands on a pair of shoes like this for my next marathon build and am curious as to what you think.
I think this is what we all hoped that the invincible would be (but isn't). or at least maybe I was the only one who thought that an all zoom x shoe would be a speedy shoe with a lot of impact protection. that's not what I get from the invincible. (I didn't try version 2). the superblast is very different and I would use it and the invincible perhaps on opposite types of runs.
I think it depends on what kind of pain in the knees. For example, I can say that I like the Bondi whenever I have what I believe is patellar tendonitis type symptoms. But shoes don’t make that knee pain go away. In my case, PT is what makes the pain go away.
How does the upper fit? More like the Metaspeed Sky(+) or more like the Novablast 3? I go for a Us12.5 in the Novablast, but in the Metaspeed Sky(+) i need a US13… so what should i go for in the Superblast?
Interesting shoe, but even more interesting is the use of a marathon 4 weeks prior to your A race in December. You’re not the only one to do that (like Welch runner). Is this a new trend in training or just happenstance?
I like the Novablast 3, but not everyday as too much squish over time seems to causes issues with body mechanics (for me personally anyway. ) even more stack sounds awesome at first but I’m noticing the higher I go in stack height, the more odd issues I suddenly develop. Granted shoes will affect runners differently, but I found that do much better overall the closer I stay to a natural lower stack and offset. That being said I think these super blast are getting totally ridiculous, but a home run for the marketing team as I’m sure sooner or later I’ll break down and try a pair… just because…
Now nike vaporfly next% 2 costs 175 usd and superblast 200. What shoe is better for training, not racing? What do you think? Which one is better option to buy for weekly long run sessions?
you didn't specify how you would want to use these shoes: (a) using the same one shoe every run, including the marathon, (b) speed workouts and racing, or (c) just racing. if it's (a), then Rincon 3 (although superblast is still a good choice for it's race qualities). if it's (b) or (c), then superblast
I’m looking really hard at buying this shoe 😅 just not 100% sure yet. Will make my decision later this week. I’m certainly open to hear any more pros and cons on it!
I love Asics Gel Kayano, they give breathable shoes just like Hoka Bondi or Arahi. Only for Asics, in Indonesia they dont have size 11.5 or 45.5 or 45 1/3, so for my Gel Kayano I use 12 size and it is a lil bit too long for my feet 😔
Sounds to me it's gonna be rather similar to the NB3, with a firmer feel. But gotta try it on in the stores first of course. All these foams, both the Turbo and Plus, are PEBA based. Of course so are many other shoes, so.... Unfortunately the real test would not only be to try these on in the stores and even running in the them there (best if there is a treadmill lol), sadly that is easier said than done. AHAR+ in the SB is cool, luckily the NB3 has TR version with approx double the AHAR thickness + slightly improved wet traction, which i have tested out before on wet outdoor tiles with dull surfaces no less (asphalt is totally no issue). Probably aimed @ those with the budget and/or elites/pros, the naunces and differences might be very small for the normies. That said, good for ASICS for pushing out products like this, next Xmas season might get a pair on discount! lol
both are great for running those distances. the sc elite 4 is designed for racing, so it's lighter and a bit more aggressive with a carbon fiber plate. I found the superblast fun for running marathon effort miles in long runs and workouts, but as far as racing goes, I'd prefer something built for racing.
I'm a heavier runner, 215, and a shoe nerd. I don't typically run more than a5k or 10k at just over a 9 minute mile. Would this be a decent shoe for a runner my build and speed?
Since there's no plate embedded in the midsole needing an anchor, could that useless cm or two of midsole sticking out the back be ground off? I'm assuming it's just for marketing appearance, since there's no way anyone would ever contact the ground with it while running. Except going down steps, where it will trip you.
Only one way to find out. I think I’d find the experience miserable, but someone who is considering doing this probably has a different set of preferences than I do
I generally don’t answer this kind of question with an entire brand as an answer, as each brand has so many types of shoes. I’m sure you can find something that works for you in each brand though
Why would be wanna be hire by ASICS? He could consult or contract for them while still being able to be free to do whatever he wants and review other shoe brands with his platform

Wow. Interesting looking shoe. Although I hate to see running shoe prices trending upwards the way they have been lately.
Looks good but the price is a no go imo. You can get a higher stack Boston 11 which also has carbon rods for long run trainings for $170 and under (on sale). Alternatively you just get a much cheaper novablast. Not sure why they priced it so high.
Rise up, we few Boston shoe lovers! 🤣
Many are complaining about the price but seems to me this shoe kinda does everything and leans towards faster miles. How many people buy other “super shoes” that are way over $200 and only lasts 200-300 miles. This shoe could be a cushy fast race shoe that you can also log a lot of miles.
The price was too high i guess 😢
in my country 250 dollar😢
I don’t care, I just need a stable max cushion shoe and this one is amazing.
@@davidrosenthal5795true. The asics superblast are some of the best I've ever used.... Just ordered the metaspeed sky plus as my 2md running shoe. I'll just alternate between the 2 but if the sky plus are anything like the superblasts then I'm in for a treat
@@mohamedalgharbi8914in my country it is a 323 dollar shoe lol 🇧🇷🤡
Its the only one non carbon plate competition shoes with high energy return on the market and the most comfortable on this segment price 👏 the price is reasonable for me
Its a very interesting shoe and I like the direction that ASICS is going overall, not sure this works for me but may take a look
Thanks!
Helpful review, nice shoe however I am sticking to the Novablast
Any idea when this will be released in the UK?
No one knows for sure. You’ll have to keep an eye out. Or you can travel to the US and get yourself a pair on Dec. 1st. 😂
There's a Superblast?! 🤯 I am excited about this!
I have not had any hamstring issues in probably 30 years and these days I still try and do 3x400 at 5:40ish pace and never any problems, so it is definitely the shoes.
thank you for the follow up
So disregarding cost, given the option of Prime X and Superblast, which would you go with?
That’s up to you. Prime x is plated, which gives you a propulsive ride. We’ll have to find out when Superblast releases on 12-01 to unprivileged general public. 😅
Is it true to size for you? Im wearing the nimbus 23 in size 8 (regular size) but i find that there is toe rubbing sometimes on my right big toe.
👀 tempting, but with that price 😬. I will wait if they’re on a good sale like most of the shoes I buy 😆😆. I don’t mind waiting 🤷🏻♂️. Great review as always. Have a great day of travel to NY. Have fun Ko.
Thank you, I got a pair at the Expo.....Looking forward to get them ready and put miles on them before the NYC Half in the spring.
I've got my name in the lottery for that race. hope I can get in 🤞
I've just recently started running, got some Asics Gel Nimbus 24 shoes, but after less than 3 months of use a hole has opened up in the upper where my big toe is.
Asics just immortalized Mike with a Kofuzi shout-out 🙌
I'm in the box!
So is there any reason left to pick novablast 3 instead of superblast (except the price)?
I went to my normal running shoe store recently to try on the NovaBlast 3. They told me they didn't carry them because Asics is not popular. Asics is their #6 selling brand. What a shame! NovaBlast 2 is excellent, and I cannot wait to get NovaBlast 3 and SuperBlast. I wanted to try these two shoes along with the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3.
let your running store know what the people want!
Did you need to remove gravel/stones/rocks from the outsole when running on gravel?
Oh yes. Worse than SC Elite 3 in that sense
Wow! What an exciting shoe! Out of my budget but one day...
This might be it
Prime X worked for me.
And now Asics has found itself and is on top of the game but sadly Jamison is nowhere to be found
The nike invincible run flyknit 2 is just unmatchable , probably the best shoe ever made till date and even this new superblast cant compete with it.
#inflation
#slowlybutsurely💸
If someone ran a Boston Qualifying time in shoes that aren't race-legal (over 40mm stack) would that make the BQ ineligible? Do they check? I've always wondered.
No it wouldn’t. The rules are only a concern if you’re trying to win prize money at races or set world records… which definitely isn’t me 😂
It kind of depends under what rules the race you are running is conducted under.
Thanks!
If you’re not part of a group that requires pre-race tech check and shoe submission, then you can pretty much wear whatever
@@TracyK6066 yeah pretty much!
Thanks 🙏
Novablast 3, Mach 5, more v4, Glideride 3. But I would also ask your ortho or pt.
Thanks, I have. Currently wearing Hoka Bondi and More V3. And Ofoos indoors. Thanks 🙏
hi kofuzi, how is it differ when it comes to the ride between Superblast and Magic Speed 2?
Great review! I live in Utah and was wondering if it will be released on ASICS website Dec 1? Or will u have a link on your channel to purchase it? Also, would this be a good shoe for jogger pace? Thanks!
Don't thnk so. This is a juggernaut. 😀
Yes the official release date is Dec. 1st unless unforeseen circumstances take place…
Looks like a great long run trainer. But I haven't tried any Asics shoes in a decade. But if I were to start running longer, I might try this.
tons of cheaper options in this league, asics is always the most expensive any categories
@@gogolaklazlo Nike is definitely more expensive
@@gerson7366 but Nike is the greatest 😂
@@suryopras And I agree. That's why they're the most expensive cause they're the greatest. 🤣
You haven’t tried the novablast?
What is the price? And which would be better for a 2 mile full effort race, this shoe or the metaspeed sky??
It’s discussed in the video
Would they be offer in WIDES?
Could you ask the ASIC rep.
Thanks!
For people with pain in their knees, which shoes do you recommend?
Thanks for all your efforts
I think it depends on what kind of pain in the knees. For example, I can say that I like the Bondi whenever I have what I believe is patellar tendonitis type symptoms. But shoes don’t make that knee pain go away. In my case, PT is what makes the pain go away.
How does the upper fit? More like the Metaspeed Sky(+) or more like the Novablast 3? I go for a Us12.5 in the Novablast, but in the Metaspeed Sky(+) i need a US13… so what should i go for in the Superblast?
In between
@@kofuzi between a US12.5 and a US13?? 🤣😂
You should be fine with 12.5. I think that’s what “in between” implies.
Interesting shoe, but even more interesting is the use of a marathon 4 weeks prior to your A race in December. You’re not the only one to do that (like Welch runner). Is this a new trend in training or just happenstance?
CIM will be my third marathon in 8 weeks
Nice .....but $220 ! Great review as usual !
That being said I think these super blast are getting totally ridiculous, but a home run for the marketing team as I’m sure sooner or later I’ll break down and try a pair… just because…
This shoe is not suitable for normal arch type foot.. i regret buy this shoe and also my middle of foot is hurt on 10K running
This shoes makes issue of plantar fasciitis in my foot.. shittttt !!!!!! I love dynablast than this shit novablast 3
How is this shoe compared to the new Nimbus 25?
one is for easy running. the other is for workouts.
Now nike vaporfly next% 2 costs 175 usd and superblast 200. What shoe is better for training, not racing? What do you think? Which one is better option to buy for weekly long run sessions?
Hey brother!! i'm training for the houston marathon and i'm between the rincon 3 and the Superblast. which pair would you recommend
you didn't specify how you would want to use these shoes: (a) using the same one shoe every run, including the marathon, (b) speed workouts and racing, or (c) just racing.
if it's (a), then Rincon 3 (although superblast is still a good choice for it's race qualities). if it's (b) or (c), then superblast
@@kofuzi thank you brother. I am going for A. Running shoes can be expensive 😅 hoping to see you in Houston! Keeping it Runhundred 💯
Please do a comparison between this Superblast vs NB SC trainer 🙏
exactly, can't wait. I have added prime X in the list
I’m looking really hard at buying this shoe 😅 just not 100% sure yet. Will make my decision later this week. I’m certainly open to hear any more pros and cons on it!
what brand and model are the blue pant/legging you are wearing? Thank you!

I don't think I've ever run in a Gel Kayano
Who's had a bigger year? Asics, New Balance, Saucony, or Nike? I want to go with Saucony, but Asics is a strong contender
Absolutely need these shoes so badly 🤩🤩🤩

Is sizing of the Asics Superblast the same as the Asics Cumulus 24 or a half size down?
I have gone with size 9 for every ASICS shoe I’ve ever run in
sensational shoe, price is no issue as it reduces the shoe count required.
That said, good for ASICS for pushing out products like this, next Xmas season might get a pair on discount! lol
How would the superblast compare to new balance supercomp elite v4 for half marathon and marathon distance?
both are great for running those distances. the sc elite 4 is designed for racing, so it's lighter and a bit more aggressive with a carbon fiber plate.
I found the superblast fun for running marathon effort miles in long runs and workouts, but as far as racing goes, I'd prefer something built for racing.
Hello @kofuzi can share your camera set setup for taking action shots.
1. Gopro
2. Stick
I'm a heavier runner, 215, and a shoe nerd. I don't typically run more than a5k or 10k at just over a 9 minute mile. Would this be a decent shoe for a runner my build and speed?
I think it’s be quite enjoyable, although it might be overkill for what you need
Hi, what brand of tights you had in this video? Thanks
Victoria Secrets 🤣🤣
Does the shoe fit a runner with wide feet? TIA
I think I’d find the experience miserable, but someone who is considering doing this probably has a different set of preferences than I do
@@kofuzi did you ever try the Hoka ten-9? 😁
How does the weight compare to the Invincible 2 or 3?

I generally don’t answer this kind of question with an entire brand as an answer, as each brand has so many types of shoes. I’m sure you can find something that works for you in each brand though
Why hasn't Asics hired you yet?! A fabulous breakdown of the shoe's design and explanation of it's possible uses.
