What It's Like To Fight Fires With Hands And Tools
Used to swing the ol’ Pulaski myself. WAs harder work than I experienced in 4+ years in the Marines. These wildland firefighters deserve our respect, gratitude and much more money
I did it too for 3 seasons. First two were fun. By the third I didn't care if it all burned, so I got out. Frankly I thought it paid really well for being just a kid, but couldn't see making it a career. Probably the problem now is that all the crews are spread so thin. That should drive up the wages and and attract more workers.
10 years.
10 years. Thank you brother.
Love the closed captioning about Disney animation and rendering.
Okay wtf glad I wasn't the only one that had those lol
Coco 😂
thank god for firemen and volunteers for helping fight back forest fires. I pray for their safety and thank them for their hard work
Don't worry they get paid very well.
@@fifen1846 Not enough !! You should watch what happened to the 911 1st responders, firefighters !! Many firefighters get lung cancers & their medical insurances don't cover much at all !!
I agree 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎵🎶💕💞
@derpAcola I'm talking about forest firefighters. A hotshot position can easily make $40k in just 6 months (fire season). Now that the federal minimum wage is $15hr. That will go up even more. Most firefighters doing forest fire fighting are blm or forest service. They work 16hr+ days. Plus hazard and overtime. Yeah they make good money
@@spark_6710 look at my above reply. Also while I do think we should have socialized medical. The federal health care BCBS is pretty good. Breathing smoke isn't good. But the smoke they breath is much more natural than a house fire
Shows the close up way fires are battled!! Thank you.
We need benefits. We have no medical or dental, no 401K nothing. Structure Fire Fighters start out at 60 grand. We may make $35,000-$40,000 if we are lucky. This needs to change.
Welcome to the slightly above everyone else club although hard to believe no medical
You have access to all that. Not like it’s free, you have to pay for that.
@@dustybottoms2780 not in a civilized country
@@tarunbasra8230 yeah well, keep dreaming for free health care and free money
You have my best wishes, thank you for continuing your hard work!
Only you can prevent forest fires - Smokey The Bear
His name is Smokey Bear. No "the". The more you know...! :-D
Surely allowing smaller controlled fires to burn the fuel on the ground would be a better option, rather than letting it accumulate
You have to keep in mind people in big cities think they know best and since thats where policies are dictated the people in the cities have dictated that controled burns be banned at the cost of the real victims of fire in the country side.
@@KILLKING110 you got a few things wrong here. First they aren't called controlled fires anymore since fire can't be controlled. Now they are called prescribed fires.
Also the locals always put up fusses and won't let prescribe fires. OP is right. We need more of them. But small towns don't want to risk it getting out of control or getting more smoke. In reality we need to do them to prevent mega fires. Most prescribe fires happen in the spring and fall time to try and prevent them from getting out of hand. They also try to keep them small.
@@fifen1846fire can be controlled
@@fifen1846if fire cannot be controlled, then firefighters are useless.
People need to consume the natural firewood that trees are making year by year, in the winter if its possible (it depends on the region).
You pretty much described policy.
Man talk about hard labor!! These guys need a raise big time 😳
They are paid well, its just funding that gets cut short from lawmakers with little brains
Yea, I'd love to know where the woman are, Laura.
@@Epiz76 you really making this a gender topic? Are you serious?
@@abouttime2569 My comment triggers you?
@@Epiz76 not really triggered since your opinion doesnt even make sense to begin with. Im just really surprised how dumb a person can be. That is why i commented.
As the cost of wildfires, water shortages and crop failures increase perhaps this idea will have a following: Every year the Missouri and Mississippi rivers flood hundreds of cities and farms across the Midwest. Why not build large pipelines to pump that floodwater to the drought prone Southwest? That's not considering the cost of the flood damage.
It would be great if lines could actually be built that long.
A great story ! Huge respects for those firefighters !! They need more & better health insurance coverages & supports from the government & people !!! 👏👏👏👍👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎵🎶💕💞
'Atta boy, McMike! Kick some fire's as!
This makes me remind about the worker's working after Cherbonyl Disaster . Saving the World 😉😊

Saw my fire crew and myself on this video
Seems like you messed up with the captions buddy.
Good dudes
Funny...if you allowed controlled burns BEFORE the wildfire, the fire wouldn't be so wild..... Just thinking out loud!
Hey, you have a good point. But they are called prescribed fires now. Since the Forest Service realized no one can control fires. Source: I have family working for Forest Service and on fires
"decades to come back" Thank you for this important reporting.

Impossible!
The subtitle is not for this video. It is about the Toy story cartoon or another video about animation industry
Question is, what it takes to maintain your forestry so you don't end up with Wildfires... California needs the help and answers...

True heroes
If they would bring back selective logging we could prevent a lot of the really big fires.
Logging wouldn't fix the underlying issue with dry brush controlled blazes burn the fuel needed to sustain a bushfire but it is only one aspect of fire fighters in Australia bushfire season and that's unbelievably severe
Get a few people ripping around on dirt bikes you can make some long dirt patches
There lungs, between the fire smokes and the dirt particulates, they take a hit!
Men are awesome
Omg what a job
Only 2,000 firefighters
You need 20,000
We can promote it in the Target stores. Maybe some strong, independent women will volunteer 😒

Manage the forest. Why have good timber die on the ground when u can harvest the tree before it dies.
there's already a vast shortage in workers and volunteers to contain fires now you want to redirect able bodies to scavenging trees?
@@blackalgorithmist000 I'm taking about logging and managing the forest. It's hard to put out fires when everything is out of control. Relax
@@stevekissel605 my fault 😂
@@stevekissel605 take another look at the part where he says it looks like graveyard. That patch of land he's on was obviously a logging operation--and a relatively recent one too. Look at all the flat-topped stumps; fire doesn't do that, and neither do firemen. Look how spaced out everything is. Look at all the patches of undisturbed dirt. All those things should indicate to you that there was very little fuel here for the forest fire to consume. A strip-cut stretch of land like that is about as clean as a forest could possibly be. But everything we see is burned regardless.
What stronger evidence would you need to see that your logging and forest management theory is bunk? What better proof could there be that you're wrong? Staring right at you is a perfectly cleaned plot of land--and not insignificant in size either--that didn't do a damned thing against the progress of that fire..
@@SineEyed relax just a covrtsation. There is so much timber out there. 9 out of 10 it's property that's not taking care of. That's all I'm saying. All good

Why imagine, just look at Australian bushfire season and weep😂
Instead of passing out free money to everyone, try investing in your forests.
And money going to crappy politicians like Pelosi, waters.
McConnell, Gowdy and Gaetz are too busy buying off companies.
They all need to join a Roblox server and find a nice long cliff and take a dive.
Easy. It's called select logging to remove failing trees. Controlled burns to remove dead underbrush, while strengthen the trees.
Ok.. you pay..
@@dertythegrower I do, it's called federal income tax. Through the bureau of land management. It's not about who pays, it's about who is stopping the landowners from managing their properties.
If it takes so long to recover, how come every year they get bigger? (Legit question, no sarcasm)
Dont take my word for it but i heard a lot of areas in the world are getting drier each year. So the fire spreads faster and easier, which makes it harder to put out.
Because wildlifes are natural and the dry dead material Piles up because we keep putting them out.
Ask the most high Yah. Better yet read what He say about these times. This is not the end of it. There is more to come and more floods. I believe Yah is tired of wickedness.
The brush comes back quickly and droughts are spreading to forests not used to fires. This enables large patches of land to catch fire and spread.
@@zoravar.k7904 but once that area is afflicted by the ravenous fires 🔥you wont have from one year to the next large amounts of fuel since all was burned to a crisp and new trees take decades. How do the same cities have the same fires if the fuel was burned away?
shouldn't they need a respirator?
a job to be replaced by robots
How to contain fires: "Hire more pilots"
Air support doesn't contain the fire. It help manage it. But not contain
Digging trenches will be a countermeasure but don't go betting the barn on it
We need better forest management. This is all avoidable and constant reactionary firefighting won't solve the problem.
But he's breathing smoke, as bad as cigarettes or maybe even worse!
Iam heee from yesterday man 😂😂
Are we sure we want to save California?
Why you doing this let it burn we got more lands
Don't worry. Trump & Republicans said it will get cool.
So you are saying that REMOVING FUEL LOAD is the solution? I remember when all of you thought Donald Trump was a psycho for suggesting that.
They never learn.
Yeah you can't rake an entire forest. Not even the Finnish are capable of that. And removing brush preemptively is of little use as it just tends to grow back before the fire.
He could be putting out the fire instead hes just adding dirt... seems useless
ikr like, how has he kept his job for 33 years when he obviously doesn't know what he's doing?.. 🙄
Grow a brain, Kale. It's near impossible to utilise time extinguishing a fire. Ever been camping?? You would have to stay in the same spot for hours....
This is all for show. I doubt modern people have the capability to stop forest fire.
And that is why the crew I'm on (and many others for that matter) have responded to over 50 fires so far this summer and kept them all under 100 acres... you only hear about the big ones because they are the only ones people care about
Donald J Trump says that you should rake the forest floor so this won't happen. ( the J is for genius)
you know that's actually a real thing and that it works right?
he was talking about REMOVING FUEL LOAD... literally what they were doing here with CONTROLLED BURNS.
Well one thing is for sure you sir are no genius
@@k333rl Hmmm, California has 33 million acres of forest . Alaska has 91 million acres of forest. So what size of work force are you going to need ? PS: Your great leader Trump is going to jail for inciting violence. 👍
@@MrJdebest just a couple weeks ago they were able to mobilize hundreds of firefighters to fight the fires. And this has nothing to do with Trump, though nice to see that someone's still obsessed with him other than the media.
These fires will not be contained or controlled. These fires are meant to do exactly what they're doing. You have no power here. Not this time. Hallelujah.
