With a 12 team playoff you can expand that to not denying a 1 loss team the chance. But once you lose two games you should consider yourself lucky to get in and shouldn’t cry when you don’t. Do I think FSU would have won it all last year? No. But do I know they wouldn’t have? No. I remember back in 2006 when people said my Gators didn’t belong in the game against Ohio State and that they should have gotten a rematch against Michigan. I too fully expected my Gators to lose. But as it turned out, it was OSU that didn’t belong on the field with my Gators as the Gators totally dominated what people were calling the best OSU team in history. It wasn’t just domination, it was total destruction. OSU had like 80 yards total offense. Ah, those were the days… sorry, I was getting lost in remembering the good old days… But you get my point. ESPN is choking out the game I loved. Bring back the BCS computers, protect in state cross conference rivalries, put in some sort of free agency and payment structure that protects the sport's long term success. Won't happen anytime soon. NFL about to gain a bunch of refugee football fans.
This is how the SEC and BIG10 leave any other conferences out of the show... no doubt. And I have news for everyone, there is nothing that can be done to stop it, except win the freaking game when we get the chance.
They have to say, "NO!" SEC trying to destroy all other leagues. Knocking out Florida State last year was designed to help destroy the ACC. ESPN is constantly trying to destroy the ACC in revenge for the ACC taking most of the Big East teams.
3 losses should automatically disqualify you from playoffs. 3 losses (not counting conference champ game) is enough to prove you aren’t one of the 12 best teams. Winners of conference champ games secure a bye, not teams that don’t play in a championship game. Have to win a minimum of 10 games in regular season to be in consideration for open spot. If the SEC road is to hard, go to a different conference and give up some of the extra money from SEC tv deals. SEC and BIG10 schools already have a leg up on the rest of the field due to $$.
@docbradleydc then you are an idiot. bcs woulda told you just put bama vs oregon in 2014. ohio state beat all their asses. teams get better, human emotion plays into effect. will and drive. you cant just pick with a computer because computer predictions are ofton wrong as shit
ESPN does the same thing with the NBA. Their money makers are the only thing that matters. It’s all about the money and it takes away from the merit of the sport. Actually you nailed it here 11:57 they constantly devalue “small market” teams which is code word for teams that don’t make them money.
THIS IS REALLY MORE OF A QUESTION! AND why is it swept under the rug? WHEN Carson Beck got injured(in sec title game BEFORE the final playoff selection), shouldn't that situation have been a major factor in Georgia moving forward in the playoffs, since Jordan Travis' injury was the "main/only" reason that a 13-0 FSU were left out of the playoffs? Didn't FSU still win their Conf title game with a backup QB, the same as how Georgia won their Conf title game(with a backup)? So why is Georgia not punished n left out of the playoffs bc their star QB got injured? I'm jus asking here, n not a FSU fan. Also when SC's great qb LaNorris Sellers went out in LSU game n didn't not play 2nd half, shouldn't THAT also have been applied, and been a factor in SC losing that game(that they were dominating), which gave the Gamecocks that 3rd loss n kept them from a 2 loss season n a certain playoff spot? Jus thoughts on that issue. Thanx
Georgia's backup QB Stockton is obviously way better than FSU's Glenn. That FSU QB was so bac that the Seminoles had to go into the portal to get another one/
@RCHorn7 I hear ya! 👍🏻 ... but again, it comes down to opinions(mine, yours, the committees) on who was/is a major factor in a team winning or losing. Your statement on Stockton is prob correct "in comparison" to the Fla St QB, BUT..... lol(those irritating "buts" lol) that Seminoles QB had to have been pretty good bc, unlike CB not finishing the conf title game, Fla St backup QB played entire ACC conf game n helped them when title. But u are correct as well bc I looked at those stats n that backup did not have many yards passing in game. Can't remember but thinking not even a hundred yards passing. 👍🏻
By Herbstreit's logic, the Gators are the ESECPN team that got shafted, not Bama or ole miss. Your take on Shannon Sharpe are herendious. Shannon was upset at the dig to First Take, not his hypocrisy toward CFB.
In Columbus Ohio we are way over Kirk H. He was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in OSU history and now he does nothing but talk down about his alma mater.
Pate believes that the committee followed the rules that were given when deciding who is in the playoff. Sharpe was mad at Kirk for saying that Sharpe said something he didn’t say. Neither were calling out Kirk for what you are saying. Stop lying about famous commentators positions to get clicks.
He's become a SEC jock strap rider, we all know he's referring to Bama not getting in but why not say the Vols didn't deserve it either, u won't hear that because UT is in SEC. I agree quality wins have to mean something but horrible losses also have to mean something
What I have noticed is many of the ESPN talking heads will go on non-espn podcasts and such and have a totally different take than what they say on TV or an ESPN sponsored podcast. It doesn’t happen often, but listening to what they have to say non-espn tends to sound more realistic.
Thank you for pointing this out. I think Herbstreit destroyed what was left of his journalist integrity and cannot be taken seriously. Also, thank you for pointing out that ESPN drives its agenda much like the Ministry of Agitation and Propaganda does in North Korea. Everyone knows this but it needs to be said openly more often. Thank you!
Most of us have noticed this bias for the past 10 years…….there is a reason Alabama always got in, and then always got the benefit of the #1 seed playing the token #4 team that was put in to get slaughtered above more worthy teams such as Ohio State many years.
As a Miami fan, I totally agree that you guys got screwed last year. Also, I believe the committee got it right this year. Wins and losses matter. Its crazy how they're trying to make 12, 11 wins mean nothing just because of strength of schedule, just so they can put a 9-3 or 8-4 SEC team in. Its absolutely insane, this is why I never wanted a playoff because I knew they'd just try to get as many SEC teams as possible. I believe most people knew Texas, Penn St and Notre Dame were going to win last weekend. They just couldn't wait to take advantage of any team who got blown out, just to say this is why Bama, Ole Miss and South Carolina should've gotten in. It was calculated and disgusting. And you're we should be talking about the winners this past weekend but SECPN ruined it.
Wooda shoulda could've we're talking about playoff games after the fact, Alabama Ole Miss, Miami and South Carolina, had their chances they left it up to the committee, when they didn't handle there business on the field.
I agree with Kirk on that. I’m a Gator fan but there is no SEC basis right now. The fact of the matter is there is only one conference that had to play the most Top 25 teams, or even Top 10 teams, this year. That’s right it was the SEC. However what made me laugh the most this year was the fans from teams in other conferences saying Alabama, for example, was weak this year. That’s fine have your team sign up for the same schedule next year and see how we’ll they do…laughable.
ESPN trying to crap on the B1G was one of the dumbest propaganda pushes ever. Now I'll root even harder against the SEC in every game they ever play. Go ND and ASU.
Repeat from another posting **** "You do know that if SCE teams played the same number of conference games as everybody else their strength of schedule would drop. Take out one of the cupcake games that SEC teams win about 85%, and replace it with it with a conference game (50/50) and SEC strength of schedule drops 35% for that game. Now SEC doesn't any better than anyone else."
Best 3 teams from 4 conferences and that should settle it. If you're 4th in your conference get over it. Interconferece play is more fun and better for the game anyhow. It will spread the money and the talent out. Of coarse that's not what those 2 conferences want.
Forgetting for a minute whether or not win/loss records matter (which is a ridiculous take in the first place), notice it's it's been a constant shriek of "who you beat matters", and never "who you lost to matters"? If who you beat is so important, who you lost to should be at least equally relevant. At time of selection, Indiana has only lost 1 game. That loss was to the #2 team at the time. That game was a road game for Indiana. That team decimated the Vols in a CFB game where style points were irrelevant. That team is now a 2 1/2 favorite against the undefeated team that was ranked #1 at the end of the season. Now let's look at who Bama lost to. Let's look at who Ole Miss lost to. These clowns are hypocrites. Bought and paid for shills. I'm glad they are getting exposed and sports fans are finally waking up. Now, I'm questioning the rankings of every Top 25 SEC teams for the past few years. Since those ratings are based on conference teams playing each other, how do we really know? Well, we found out last weekend, and I hope we find out again Jan. 1st.
ok fine, we won’t look at “wins”. let’s look at loses. alabama’s loses to Oklahoma and Vandy were worse than indiana’s to ohio state. or why even play the games at all? just let the media decide who wins every game each year and who the national champ is. that way nobody gets hurt and they save so much money on travel.
The committee did the right thing. But if the goal is actually put in the 12 BEST. there have to create a system that puts every team the ability through strong schedules to piss on their own leg. And like you said if the beat fans don’t care about conference then just do away with them. Make it that of the 12 games you play 6 from your own conference and 2 from each of the other power conferences. It’s a way to close the gap at least a bit. It will at least make it much easier for an SMU or Indiana not be able to skate through. The only thing that is absolutely true is the grind of the SEC. It’s not that all those teams are that much better. But if you have to play a schedule of old Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Florida State all back to back. Who in any conference can get though that gauntlet unscathed. Nobody. So the only solution is everyone gets the gauntlet.
IMHO, most of these "so-called" college football fans will not be happy until half of the football of the teams in the college football playoff are mid major programs.
Like many college football fans who truly understand the sport and the politics that are played. I just hate to see mid major programs game the system with an easy schedule and then demand that they are allowed to play for main prize.
No, what will be funny is Georgia losing by 3-7 to ND and Yexas getting their asses handed to them by OSU or Oregon. Their best win of the year was against an overnatched Clemson team this past weekend. Tennessee was at least competitive and couldn't do anything against OSU. Of course, now we just proved Kiffins point for him.....Oh wait, these teams actually won the games they were supposed to, unlike a couple others that see it as their birthright to simply show up and play for a NC every year.
Let’s see now-according to Herbie, he’d be ok with the old BCD because it took into account strength of schedule. But back then, he was against it. Now, according to Herbie, anyone who goes in and knocks off a few SEC teams, maybe Vandy and Kentucky, you’re good to go in the CFP even if you lose the next nine. Amazing😂😂😂
Kirk should a 5- 6 Alabama be in? 6- 6 Ole Miss? How about why not put Mercer in it they played Alabama!! Wins do not matter it matters who you played whether you won or lost!!!
The groundwork was laid by all the recruiting classes and all the the the home cooking that went on with some of the the the the scheduling especially for Bama how they they refused to leave the state for like how many of the first 7 years of any kind of meaningful game I mean no there's been a whole lot of home cooking dirty s*** done between recruiting classes that don't make sense you know parking lots in the athletic area looking like a new car parking lots kids not leaving the program and it's been waiting behind other four stars five stars three stars which never happens unless you're getting paid I'm sorry but no it's dirty no tell Brian Kelly got his his his his his administration at Notre Dame got slapped for being dirty see him a lot easier to go down and deal with the Southeastern Conference and get away with that kind of s*** and young and saving got out as soon as the Niall became official cuz he wasn't going to be able to hold onto players now like before when he was able to
I don't hate the guy but Kirk has always been a tool for higher. FSU called it out because it went against them in a big way (which i didn't agree with but understood). When he called games for UGA or Bama he talked them up and wouldn't even mention penalties that could have been called. Listen to him on just one Gator game. Every other play he was trying to ref from the booth against FL. He is a company man. If ACC was bringing in bigger dollars for ESPN he would be saying we should have had FSU in because the 2 win ACC team is better than Tenn.
Herbie used to be a voice of reason on many topics. I believe he's hitched his wagon to Coach Saban and just wants to please coach and Reece (Bama grad). You could have read his comments and totally believed they came straight from Saban's mouth. Im a UGA guy and I get the fan bases outside the SEC getting sick of SEC bias. Now, I contend it's Bama bias more than all of SEC, but I get it. ESPN has financial interest in seeing the SEC succeed. FOX has financial interest in seeing the BIG10 win. Klatt is a mouthpiece for the BIG10. Overalll point is that alot of us have lost respect for Herbie and it's too bad cuz he knows football but has lost his perspective.
College football is the only thing the wins are what it's all about your losses and sometimes you can't help who your schedule is but you still got to get the wins shouldn't be about conference
"i hope next year the committee won't get caught up in what the social media and a lot of people who are fringe fans get caught up in, which is WINS." WHAT THE ACTUAL F?!?!? yeah, no. winning is no longer the important thing in sports??? FML
Yeah, I don't know. Fans see what they want to see. Look I'm not a Herbsteit fan, but agree or disagree he does have point. The first thing on the committee's list of criteria is strength of schedule. It does need to matter who you play and beat. The best way to know how good a team is to see them play a quality opponent. I'm not going to argue over who should have and shouldn't get in the playoffs, but the man has a valid point. I think they should just get rid of the committee and human bias, and just rank the teams using the BCS computer model. Or do something similar to basketball where you have an NPI rating based on quality of wins, and other factors. Record is secondary to those metrics. That's just logical.
The problem with this is there isn’t enough cross play between conferences to judge strength of schedule accurately. The SEC claims they have more losses because they are stronger too to bottom but there is no way to verify that without more games against other conferences. So it becomes a guessing game.
@@scotttaranto7870 I think most agree the SEC is the strongest conference. Just look at where the most top recruits go. Look at where the majority of draft picks come from. And look at who wins the most national championships. But regardless of where you fall on that, there are mathematical models that can calculate the rankings better than any human. We need to get rid of or at least minimize the flawed human bias. Basketball is able to do this with the NPI ratings. Football could do the same.
@@briangwin1251my argument to that would be that if you are getting all the talent, and have 3 loses, you should be disqualified from any bowl games. How are you losing with all the talent. Give other teams chances to win chips
@@kennethcook3127 3 loses should disqualify a team from playing in a bowl game? And by the way, I think you're going to get your wish. The transfer portal is indeed spreading out the talent. As a Bama fan I can tell you there were years where Bama's 3rd string would have been a top 25 team. That depth no longer exists. NIL is benefitting the big spenders. And the expanded playoffs gives more teams a chance. For the record, I don't think Bama should have been in this year.
Why are you guys are so mad at Kirk H. He's been saying for years that college football players don't love the game. It's just a dog whistle about his hatred of black players.

My favorite one ever. 😂 merry Christmas!
Just watch the games and turn off the volume. That way you don’t have to hear the bias during the games at least.
Then why didn't all the other teams do the same?
“Don’t get caught up in wins”
I hate him so much.
Right? Apparently don't get caught up in losses either..

ESPN is choking out the game I loved. Bring back the BCS computers, protect in state cross conference rivalries, put in some sort of free agency and payment structure that protects the sport's long term success.
Won't happen anytime soon. NFL about to gain a bunch of refugee football fans.
It’s all about the money, and we’re ALL BUYING IN! Fans are getting played.
Merry Christmas TJ. Go NOLES!!!!
Yeah, the writing is on the wall. We're all whistling past the graveyard.
Merry Christmas and GO NOLES!!
It is not a conspiracy that Kirk is a major SEC biased person. The guy even does outros on UA-cam for the SEC shorts channel.
I’ve said it a hundred times, get rid of the auto bids and rank the top 25 by BCS and get rid of the committee
get rid of autobids yes. bcs no.
@ better then some half wit no nothings sitting in a conference room picking names out of their ass
I feel more confident in the BCS computer algorithms than a few random in a room.

@RCHorn7 I hear ya! 👍🏻
... but again, it comes down to opinions(mine, yours, the committees) on who was/is a major factor in a team winning or losing.
@RCHorn7 I think Gunnar Stockton is gonna be a great QB.
By Herbstreit's logic, the Gators are the ESECPN team that got shafted, not Bama or ole miss.
Your take on Shannon Sharpe are herendious. Shannon was upset at the dig to First Take, not his hypocrisy toward CFB.
His dog is smarter than he is
In Columbus Ohio we are way over Kirk H. He was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in OSU history and now he does nothing but talk down about his alma mater.
Sec an ESPN bed partners what do you expect.
Herbstreit is a clown, but we're all fucking hypocrites.
It’s time for Kirk to take it down the road. He is ruining college football.
It's even worse for Linda to say, "Thanks for saying it." They are both ESecPN mouthpieces.
GO NOLES #MIKEGOTUS & Happy Holidays! 🤟🏾💯🍢
This has been going on for 15 years.
ESPN trying to crap on the B1G was one of the dumbest propaganda pushes ever. Now I'll root even harder against the SEC in every game they ever play. Go ND and ASU.
Rankings shouldn't start til week 5.
I wish I could check this more than once
Repeat from another posting **** "You do know that if SCE teams played the same number of conference games as everybody else their strength of schedule would drop. Take out one of the cupcake games that SEC teams win about 85%, and replace it with it with a conference game (50/50) and SEC strength of schedule drops 35% for that game. Now SEC doesn't any better than anyone else."
i miss the BCS get rid of the portal and nil and bring back college football GO NOLES!!!
lol You cannot get rid of NIL. People have a RIGHT as Americans to make money. That is settled law.
What really blows is ESPN is calling the Rose Bowl....I think I will play the radio, and turn down the volume on my TV. Go Ducks!
Great show , Kirk wants no one to play games except the Sec
Even Kurtz finally admitted it.
Dont get caught up with wins is like saying dont get caught up with ratings. (IE ) tv that is
I see Kirk Hurbstreight is posisitioning himself to replace Paul Finebaum 🤔... when that time comes lol
Best 3 teams from 4 conferences and that should settle it. If you're 4th in your conference get over it. Interconferece play is more fun and better for the game anyhow. It will spread the money and the talent out. Of coarse that's not what those 2 conferences want.
3:00 Kirk, a veteran, is ‘deserving’ of his spot on tv. But isn’t the ‘best.’
Good points
ESPN and Fox need to share both the B1G and SEC. B1G/SEC need to join together and take a bid for the combined entity.
And neither one should be paying the CFP. It’s a conflict for the committee to be financially connected to a network that is tied to conferences.
Clearly Tennessee had no business in the tournament. Got their asses handed to them in the middle of the pack. Is this what he meant?
IMHO, most of these "so-called" college football fans will not be happy until half of the football of the teams in the college football playoff are mid major programs.
For your information Indiana scored 2 late TDs to make it 10 points. It was 27-3 and the game was over at that point
27-3 was more competitive than Tennessee’s game, for your information.
Also, games are 60 minutes, for your information.
Like many college football fans who truly understand the sport and the politics that are played. I just hate to see mid major programs game the system with an easy schedule and then demand that they are allowed to play for main prize.
You know what is going to be funny is if Georgia does go onto win the tournament and does mostly with their defense.
I think Kirk is racist against Seminole Indians
Let’s see now-according to Herbie, he’d be ok with the old BCD because it took into account strength of schedule. But back then, he was against it. Now, according to Herbie, anyone who goes in and knocks off a few SEC teams, maybe Vandy and Kentucky, you’re good to go in the CFP even if you lose the next nine. Amazing😂😂😂
Kirk should a 5- 6 Alabama be in? 6- 6 Ole Miss? How about why not put Mercer in it they played Alabama!!
Wins do not matter it matters who you played whether you won or lost!!!
We are the best fans go noles
Should play Kirk's little dance from last year backwards! 😊
Much ado about nothing. Every fanbase has a lunatic element to it. OSU has finished in the Top 10 every year that Ryan Day has been coach.
COULD JAMEIS TECHNICALLY START FOR FSU NEXT YEAR HE HAS 1 year of eligibility
Something to talk about until Jan 1
Should only be 8 teams in the playoffs. There is always a big drop off in teams after 8.
The groundwork was laid by all the recruiting classes and all the the the home cooking that went on with some of the the the the scheduling especially for Bama how they they refused to leave the state for like how many of the first 7 years of any kind of meaningful game I mean no there's been a whole lot of home cooking dirty s*** done between recruiting classes that don't make sense you know parking lots in the athletic area looking like a new car parking lots kids not leaving the program and it's been waiting behind other four stars five stars three stars which never happens unless you're getting paid I'm sorry but no it's dirty no tell Brian Kelly got his his his his his administration at Notre Dame got slapped for being dirty see him a lot easier to go down and deal with the Southeastern Conference and get away with that kind of s*** and young and saving got out as soon as the Niall became official cuz he wasn't going to be able to hold onto players now like before when he was able to
Look at Vegas power ratings and compare them to the seeding
Vegas power ratings are the most objective analysis of the rankings of these teams
Bookmakers care about one thing
"i hope next year the committee won't get caught up in what the social media and a lot of people who are fringe fans get caught up in, which is WINS."
WHAT THE ACTUAL F?!?!?
yeah, no. winning is no longer the important thing in sports???
Indiana deserved to be in the playoff. They got beat by a very good football team. On the other hand, SMU…

Until you take down that 1993 championship banner and hand that trophy back, every FSU fan can shut it. Get the mouthpiece Kanell to melt down that ring he got for sitting on the bench. Do that and you can complain. FSU got put in a championship game because of brand.
