2:10 when she bends her knees and one of her fellow players is like “yeah girl yeah!” Truly shows the power of jazz and how amazing of a genre of music it really is :)
These kids are musical 'reincarnates' of Duke Ellington's members. The damsel captures the essence of tone, articulation, melodic sweetness and improvisational acumen of Johnny Hodges on alto saxophone. The trumpeter is older than he is old: Edison, King Oliver, Louis... are heard in his playing. Good Job! Thanks for posting!
Oh My, they just slay this song, from beginning to end. Perfect tempo and patience throughout, and shout out to the pianist, she kept the whole performance together.
What you said and notes in general are improvised. If you want to hear the more simple version of the solo, you can watch sun prairie's or Newark academy's performance.
They arent mutes, they are simply just- plungers! They’re used by nearly every trumpeter and trombone player in the business! Its used to get that “wa” sound. Sometimes, a mute will be in an instrument while using the plunger!
speaking on behalf of eminem fans everywhere, eminem and duke are geniuses of their respective genres. Neither genre is more tasteful than the other, with each requiring a unique set of skills. I think these kids sound amazing, but also think that eminem is insanely skilled and deserves respect from artists from all genres. Have you checked out his track "biterphobia"? Dude swings like bird on mango mangue imo.

lowkey i would have been anxious to solo after the sax because it so good but frank did great!
As a Memphian and tenor sax player, I approve. Great work, and awesome saxophone section.
High school band? Wow.... I've never seen any high school band play this kind of stuff at this level.
This is my jazz band audition piece lol it's pretty easy but the dynamics they show are so strong

Way back in the day when this music was first played, those guys were about this same age. It can still be done given a chance.
Oh My, they just slay this song, from beginning to end. Perfect tempo and patience throughout, and shout out to the pianist, she kept the whole performance together.
"Was the Opening Sax Solo ridiculous?"

Does anyone know why the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, & 2018 Performance was removed from UA-cam? They were awesome.
Some of these kids at this time are just sophomores...
💙💙💙💙
4:06 best moment
What happened to Beloit 2016 performance?!?!? :((
Unbelievable! And to think they're high school students from Wisconsin!
The solos sounded good but they were really simple
simple is not always a bad thing
@@milesburke3858 true, that’s why I said they sounded good
was the solo in the very beginning written or improvised?
I think it was improvised. The written version is a bit more simple.
What part do you believe is improvised? Like the pitch bending? Rearticulating? Glisses? All of the above perhaps lol
What you said and notes in general are improvised. If you want to hear the more simple version of the solo, you can watch sun prairie's or Newark academy's performance.
Rudy Batan thank you
its written every band had to play the same lick
Were they were using toilet plungers as mutes?

Wow
How could anyone give these kids a thumb down. Must be Eminem fans.

@Acorparation you have jokes.

at around 5:10 there is an instrument switch and someone does, in fact, pick up a clarinet.
I guess you're not really sure what a clarinet looks like looks like
