The conversation between Beau and Caleb- Caleb says: I love you. I want to keep you safe and I am willing to give you up to do it. Beau hears: I don't trust you and I'm considering abandoning you. Beau says: I love you and I will protect you. Trust me. Caleb hears: I don't understand how much danger I'm in and I'll continue to be reckless.
Beaus so annoying this episode. It’s like she completely forgot he was betrayed and manipulated by a high level wizard, so obviously doesn’t want to engage with other high level wizards since they’re probably in a circle of talks with each other. Fuck me dead, she misses the point on everything he says so often
Naw, it was more like: Beau, "I'm having a moment of self realization." Cad, excitedly: 'YES YES, I encourage and commend this wholeheartedly!!' Beau: "Anyways...." Everyone else, 'moving on...' What the ever loving fuck?!?!?!?
@@fisharepeopletoo9653 I Guess you missed the multiple times in the past few episodes when she apologized and opened up to people. I get it though, people who hate Marisha will only be annoyed by her and her characters.
As the nein were leaving the docks, handing over the ball eater to Orly, I was picturing the crew and Marius in the back ground busying themselves about the ship; this random and hastily assembled crew who got thrown in at the deepest end of a fucking shit storm, now looking weathered by the sea, but cohesive and strong together for all that they just went through, and Marius giving a little smile, looking over at this group of absolute psychos who essentially kidnapped him, then turning back to working on the ship, finding a weird joy in this new life he was reluctantly thrown into.
@@tomgray8156 I love the way you told this, because in all honesty, he's spent as much time with the crew of the Mistake/Balleater as the Mighty Nein did waaaay before Molly died. It was about a month's time when the PCs all became an official group, and it's cool the same premise falls onto these guys.
Caleb's face when Jester says she'll stay one more night with her mother. The face of someone who would give anything to be able to do the same. Liam is incredible.
@@jabz7703 It’s been a great week! I’m also very hyped. I notice I’m feeling a lot of apprehension with watching it immediately though, since I’m still watching C2.
Let's look at what we know about him. 1) he has earned enough money to have bagpipes surgically implanted. 2) he is willing work as a navigator 3) he doesn't want to actually own a ship, but is willing to take over as captain in the absence of its true captain. 4) Matt plays him as being extremely old I am led to believe that he is a very high level seafaring bard in his retirement years. He seems to only be willing to step out of retirement due to lack of others being able.
this is one of those episodes that reminds you not only is sam a parent of two, he's also a decorated actor with a long career back into his childhood. he fucks around because he wants to, but he's also laying the groundwork for the most painful shit you've ever seen.
That's a pretty good summary of what my head was trying to formulate too Sam is one of the most creative people I know of. His ideas and the way he presents them with so much passion and talent - that's just amazing.
He is the embodiment of the best kind of class clown. Highly intelligent, immensely talented, loves to fuck around, but confident without being pompous. He is an extraordinary performer.
this was like the 3rd or 4th time around and I still tear up at the reveal. There are a handful of other moments in this campaign, but this is why i keep coming back to it. Such powerful stuff.
Me running a oneshot wirh my friends and describes a body in a hanging tree off the road by several thousand feet...proceed to heavily investigate the body and do a full autopsy
3:37:51 “You’re not at fault here. Your the solution. …We’re here to fix this.” Caduceus is a beautiful soul and we’d all be lucky to have a pure friend like him.
It just occured to me. The dog the Ruby has been "taking care of" didn't go out (shit and piss inside the room). Ruby isn't really visiting anyone, she is the one visited by her clients. The scene where she apprehensively walked out to say goodbye to Jester. She doesn't go out. Like, at all.
I'm going to guess that there's some sadness and loneliness there just like with little Jester. It's probably deep rooted, like even before she had jester, and the circumstances at which she and jester found themselves only with each other only reinforced that. You can't get hurt if you live in a bubble.
@@JRTIntervencion ah, I've been so focused on catching up with the campaign that I completely neglected the TV vids. I think it's a tribute to his storytelling that it can come across without it being directly stated in-game. Even moreso for feeling like a real psrt of the character instead of just a trait in a checkbox. Every character in this campaign feels like a fleshed out person that comes FROM this world instead of just placed in it.
I love all of the reactions to "Where's my son." Laura drops her pencil, Travis and Liem both slowly look up, Marisha and Tallison both open their eyes and look at Sam. Its great
In one of the first episodes, when they're discussing Nott's age, she says "I'm of childbearing age". It struck me as a blunt way to describe it, but now it has a whole other meaning.
Nott’s “encounter” with the boy in the dirt and the joke about Sam’s next character made me wish that the gang some day would do a one off when they all play obscure NPCs from the campaign all getting their own adventure!
@@untipoverable i hate this. I was hoping they would run into a town infested with zombies and find molly, forcing them to either try to keep a zombie with them forever, or make them kill their dear friend who the couldn't save once before
Brutal that Caleb is ultimately only her adopted "son" when that comes into conflict with her real son. I'm sure she'll come around but Caleb's in a rough spot! Seeing his ghosts in the flesh.
@@csn583Nott wasnt angry at Caleb, but literally at the mages of the Empire. But from Caleb pov this hurt so much. Not only is it because his only close friend just fired at him like that. Caleb was literally trained for this. He was gonna become "His people". And he already did unspeakable things for being "his people". Nott accidentally struck the very essence of Caleb's depression and madness. He was his people and that's why he is broken for 120+ episodes. Nott would never say this if she knew what it means to Caleb, would be interesting if Caleb's full story came out now when Nott is angry, which of her emotions would win. Also from spiler i thought it said it takes almost whole campagin for Nott's secret reveal because Matt was afraid it was never gonna be revealed while Sam was fine with it. UI guess the crew didnt pick up on it now or its next episode already, either way enjoy to everyone! Hint: Nott's child and her real name are the gate
His immersion is top tier, he makes Caleb the most detailed interesting character for me. Fjord and Caduceus are right up there for intrigue, but Caleb seems like such a complete persona.
@Crixus Dixus you're criticizing a character that draws dicks on books. She still hasn't matured as a character, and never had friends she had to share with. She's an only child that used to send letters to mom begging for money. She doesn't KNOW how to share. She shared money because she doesn't know the value, she gives hugs because they are free, but she carries the times because it makes her feel useful. It's not shellfish as to why she didn't dole out items, it's because she just doesn't consider why she should. She has a one track mind. Healing. Hugs. Dicks. She is completely in character.
@Crixus Dixus yah? What does that even mean. Explain what in her past would give her the ability to deal with people well? The years trapped in a house with only a god to talk to?
As somebody with PTSD, the little ways Liam portrays Caleb are surprisingly close to home. The drive to protect yourself in subtle and unsubtle ways, the fact its hard to describe how and why you do the things you do both for your own safety and because you don't entirely know why...you just do it and you don't feel anxious doing it like this. Good show.
Oh my GODS yes. I see so much of myself in Caleb and how he tries so hard to keeps his friends safe from his damage, and how horrified he always is when they put themselves in danger to keep him safe. So many of his mannerisms are things that I do myself. Watching the M9 love their battered friend makes me more comfortable with the idea that I can be loved too. Good show indeed.
Underrated physical response from this episode that gets overlooked because of what else happens: Sam's *freeze* when he hears that the Brenatto alchemist shop has been burned down. You can see his whole body choke up all in one go and it's *fantastic* because I don't even think it was acting, I think it was real, actual panic that settled into him because he KNOWS what that name means and he KNOWS Matt took his backstory and ran with it and now he's terrified in real life because it's here and in his face. That is an actual reaction, as opposed to the beautiful acting he gives us later. Holy hell, Sam Riegel, you glorious human.
I was thinking it was weird that Marion is this sweet loving protective mother but in Jestor's backstory she is this figure who kept Jestor locked up in a room for most of her childhood. That kinda paints Marion as a villainous, image-obsessed character, but the idea that she's agoraphobic actually changes all that. Sure she didn't want Jestor to be seen to maintain appearances but she also didn't want to let Jestor out into a world that terrified her. so yea cool stuff
that would be a very different take xD Also, it's so disconcerting to read something one has written/ was thinking about so many years ago @@shempai1166
Holy shit, this is one of those episodes that turns EVERYTHING on its head. Sam had been playing the long game with Nott's backstory the whole time, dropping little hints here and there, playing the role of a goblin so well that no one would suspect otherwise. The way she suddenly turns on Caleb, my god. The roleplay in this campaign is on another level, I mean I know they're actors but god damn, there have been so many moments so damn perfect you'd think they were scripted.
Also, the moment Caleb realises so many things, and stops thinking a little about himself and more about Nott, when they get to Edith, cause Caleb is seeing the other side of the fire he caused at his house. Nott's son survived and a but he could have been dead, ironically despite who set the fire, their situations now are equal amd opposed.
idk what others think but I thought Beau and Caleb's argument was really good and really spoke to their characters. Caleb is trying to tell beau about his fears and how he doesn't feel safe sometimes in the group, while beau is arguing that even if it's not always safe they have each other and are willing to fight. Beau seems to think that fighting is enough while caleb doesn't. That just felt very real to me where both groups want the same thing but have different perspectives.
I agree in the abstract, but Caleb's fears aren't abstract, they are very real. If Yussa had been friends with Trent, TMN would be dead before they got to Trostenwald. They have no defense against the likes of Wizards of Trent and Yussa's caliber, they are just straight fucked. Caleb was trying to have a real conversation about things that are too dangerous for the party to do, and Beau took it as an afront to her handling of the situation once inside the tower, and as Caleb putting his attachment issues on display.
I also really liked this argument because they were both testament of their character growth but also of the shortcomings they still have to face. While Caleb have come to admit that he cares deeply for the Neins, he still considers himself appart, seeing this encounter with Yussa from an outsider perspective (and to be fair, he is completely right here, even if she doesn't understand it, Beau's approach was reckless, you should always be wary of old wizards, they are extremely powerful and dangerous). And while Beau was trying to be nice and was being supportive, she ultimately missed the point and reacted rudely because Caleb's reaction hurt her. Very nice moment.
@@rhyswilliams424 But that excuse doesn't work because she's not uneducated or as "meat head esc" as she always acts. She has moments where she vary smart and drops her "I'm too cool for school" and she was educated by the monks and should understand out of all of them the danger and connections of powerful people.
I absolutely love the way Marisha and Liam play Caleb and Beau and their interactions with it. I think the strong emotions that Beau invokes are a testament to how well she plays the character. It feels very much like a real person, it's amazing to watch.
I love how the group had to gradually come to the realization that they had a lot of stuff to talk to a powerful mage about that he might be interested in. It started out with they wanted in that tower. Then they tried to think up a lie to get them in. Then after talking for a bit they are like "Hey wait a second there is a lot of stuff that we could legitimately talk to him about!" It is like the insanity of their lives has become so common place they forgot that it might be interesting to someone else.
im late here but I for one am thrilled they have a non partisan high level possible friend, I dont trust him completely yet but i kinda wish they had left the dodecahedron
Beau just layed straight in with lie upon lie and then said 'I am not a trustworthy person'. Travis just sat with his face in his hands and let her dig the hole deeper and deeper. Caduceous really pulled that whole thing out of the fire.
This is my first watch-through, but I"m wondering if maybe that wizard becomes like Alura was for Vox Machina-- like a powerful ally that can help them with stuff.
One searched beggar, one orphan sailor, one goblin thief, one punk rebel, one reclusive priest and a tribal barbarian... I guess only Jester, the crazy rich city girl would have the self confidence to knock on the rich mage's door.
I feel Matt's pain on the books, I've currently got a Warlock in my game who is obsessed with books, so the amount of random ass books I've had to make up is getting ridiculous.
Same! That combined with Caleb being 100% unwilling to just say that’s he’s scared both for himself and for his new friends makes for some incredible misunderstandings between the two. Their communication styles clash so badly, it’s great to watch
@@Smerrly I'm obv even later to this than you guys, but it always made me laugh when people would comment about Beau being a bad character or even Marisha herself being a bad player when it was so obvious it's just fucking fantastic acting. That exchange was brilliant, they're both trying their best to reach out but have no idea how to communicate with people, or even how to properly feel their fears and doubts, so it just becomes a beautiful mess. Especially loved Beau shouting at Caleb as he walks off, feels like that's a weirdly positive conclusion to a convo between those too
@@helplmchoking bruh are you serious? yeah, Beau's thing is basically bad communication. But saying that Caleb couldn't just tell everyone because of his 'communication issues' is just fucked up. Poor Caleb had a really shitty few days, first being trapped with a powerful mage with probable ties to the man who ruined his life, seeing Jester’s mother and how happy they both are to have each other, arguing with Beau when he was trying to explain that he was afraid for his life and hers, then finding out that his closest friend has been lying to him the entire time he knew her, and thinking that the only way to save Nott’s husband is to face the man who tortured him for years. I agree, and the moment when Nott was reading the paper they found and accused Caleb I was like, stop with his backstory, my poor baby has been through enough already ! It's a good thing Cadeceus steppes him and comforted him a bit.
@@ADfrts If it was after the reveal (that came just afterwards) instead of before, the obvious reaction would be: "They are as much my people as your clan is your people, Nott the Brave."
I love that marius stayed on the ship, thats such cool character developement. From a weak messenger to a hardened seaman thats a glow up if ive ever seen one
3:28:45 - Jester 'what does it look like from the chair?' Matt: 'It looks like the room'...Taleisin: 'you're tearing me apart' :D I cant believe no one got that 'The Room' reference. You're tearing me apart Lisa!
Spoilers! I absolutely adore the reactions to the Nott reaveal. Laura/Jester is too shell-shocked to even properly process what is hapenning, so instead she is just trying to be helpful while trying to wrap her head around it. Travis/Fjord takes a little longer, looking at the others as if to make sure that he *did* hear correctly, spends much time trying to decipher what is going on, and there is this element of "you secretive bastard" on his face, and he tries to help, but the entire time he looks at Nott like he's seeing her for the first time. Taliesin/Caduceus has a moment of bafflement before he melts to an "oh I see...okay, we will deal with this" face, and remains in a rather introspective mood throught the conversation, and only pipes in when it's time to gather the frankly falling apart team and take them to safety (the collected reaction might have to do with Taliesin waiting for "the Riegel shoe to drop", or he just has great poker face). Marisha/Beau seems to be the last person to truly register the information, before she just goes into "oh shit" territory. Her "we need to talk" has such a mixture of emotions behind it, it is crazy. Liam/Caleb is my absolute favorite though: the way he slowly raises his head and his eyes just glass over, you can tell the realization washes over him in one solid go. He was already feeling horrible, and this just makes things 100% worse. You can almost see the things he knows about Nott starting to click in his head. When Nott calls Luke smart, you can basically see him wincing in pain, because suddenly the fondness in her voice when she calls Caleb smart has an entirely different layer. Everyone else is surprised, but Caleb looks *devastated*.
Heh - I'm pretty sure that panicked, scrambling conversation outside the door with the wizard watching was exactly what convinced him. The actual bit once they got inside was the wizard convincing THEM to trust HIM. Sounds like he was an adventurer in his youth and recognized the party for what it was.
This whole episode bugged me. TMN find themselves in lots of off-the-cuff situations, but the whole tower adventure had very LITERALLY no context or point. It was just a weird location they decided they wanted to visit. No one had ANY real reason for going there. The whole "a powerful wizard lives there!" subplot felt...just grossly misplayed. The whole reasoning for entering the tower was stupendously flimsy "We'll act like we've been sent to inform him of the dangers he's facing!" He's a super powerful, ancient elvish wizard... He's clearly going to be aware of the comings and goings of the major players in the world. He's definitely aware there is a war brewing and that someone of his stature and power *might* be a target in such a conflict. I don't understand why they didn't just run with the whole "We have two super magic-y things we don't understand and need help" line of inquiry. And Deuce TRIES to center that during the conversation, but Beau ran a little roughshod over the whole thing. I love Marisha's portrayal of Beau 99% of the time, but every once in a while I wonder why she devolves into the whole "I'm definitely NOT an expert on this, but I'm going to act like I'm one!" sort of demeanor. Like the notion that Caleb should *not* have been involved in this whole exchange from go for whatever reason was just...silly? Don't get me wrong, there were really BRILLIANT moments in this episode to. The argument beteween Beau and Caleb was great; the whole section regarding Nott's revelations. All brilliant. But that particular episode with Yussa was super cringe for me and that's something I don't often get from CR.
@@Aiglos78 That is because they were technically "metagaming" here. Sticks out as odd because this group of players is usually VERY good at sticking to their character motivations. But in this case, the players just wanted to get the thing! DnD is a game after all. Sometimes a session will go in a weird direction because the PLAYERS want something the characters don't. The best thing to do is roll with it - get the thing, and treat it the same as any other "weird dice roll" event. As long as you don't let it happen all the time - it can add some cool layers to the story. Besides - Matt made them pay for the trip by confiscating the Happy Fun Ball and all that dragon treasure inside. (and books)
@@kin2naruto I mean, that's all true. I'm not sure it was meta-gaming so much as just misplaced curiosity, honestly. Nobody really broke character or anything, it just felt like a very contrived venture. It was one of the most loudly *regular* DnD moments of either campaign that I can recall. I mean, yeah, it happens all the time that players overrule their characters...sure. I don't know. That wasn't really the vibe I got from the whole escapade, though. It was more like "A tower. Remember the tower. That was cool. Let's do that. Okay, cool, towers are great...but this IS DnD so we're going to need a highly contrived in-world game-y reason to investigate it." I mean, the plot about suggesting they want to *warn* him has a strictly in-world reasoning. That's why I don't find it meta-gamey. I just found the in-world reason horribly contrived and cringey. I also didn't want to poop on Marisha because she gets so much utterly unnecessary harassment as is. It just so happened that she was kind of the particular catalyst of this one moment...everybody has had a moment..lol
@@Aiglos78 You don't think maybe the characters had the exact same reason for wanting to see the tower as the players? Curiosity exists in real life, you know. They saw something weird and got curious. That's all there is to it.
"...If you went here instead of Nicodranas you would have been here when it all went down..." Matts planning still amazes me; how he write so many plotlines and fits them all together.
And if they had been there instead of Nicodranas, who knows what Algar would have done to the Ruby without their intervention. Not a whole city worth of destruction, but equally devastating to Jester.
@@Theflyinghamburger That could have been let stay in a stasis, Ruby has pretty good security and at the moment the M9 arrived it was more of a frustration that would have taken a few more weeks to develop into actual action. but the stuff with the Mistake and the whole savantika arc would have been missed because that was the thing that had an actual deadline.

@@wolfnote6679 Yeah both of them had valid points but neither one was conveying them very well which was very true to their characters. Caleb was saying just talking to a mage could be dangerous for all of them and to watch out for that because he didn't want to feel responsible for more deaths. Beau was saying that they'd spent the past few weeks risking their lives for Fjord's interests and so basically they're in it for the long haul. I don't think half the party (Jester, Beau, and Nott) really understood what the other half was getting at with not bringing the cat, or using the Dodecahedron, which is: don't fuck around with magic in a mage's own tower
They knew nothing about the mage, and spilled their beans and gravy with no solid or expedidiant goal to go their. It's like watching Frodo, Sam, Merry' and Pipen take the Ring to Saurman. Hopefully they're in alignment.....

Ya, it's good to check in after a pretend fight because emotions can spill over. Part of why I love watching Critical Role is how close these people are and how kind they are to each other.
I already saw spoilers about Nott's backstory, but it was still so incredible to see the reveal. Sam portraying her panic and worry for her family, changing into her true self, demanding to see her son, everyone being so shocked and not expecting this. It's hard to forget that everyone who watched this live and the rest of the cast thought Nott was just a goblin at odds with her clan for protecting a halfling. Instead she's actually a halfling herself and has a son - that must've been mind-blowing at the time! Sam did a really good job at hiding that despite slipping in some hints beforehand that you will only notice when you know a bit about Nott's backstory already.
The fact she used "disguise self" to make her appear like her "normal" halfling self was clever too. No one caught that. Her son recognized who Nott was right away despite her "disguise".

Fernando Zepeda but at the same time it’s understandable, to me. Nott is good at choosing who she loves, and this alchemist was someone she chose to love. She chose to love Caleb as well but in her eyes it really seems like “Caleb is associated to the people who did this, there fore Caleb is associated with this”. She’s angry and frustrated and hurt and just wants to find her friend and she lashes out. It’s not acceptable no, that’s not her information to give to the group, but it makes sense.
CM Muse and it’s not just that it’s her friend... it was her frickin husband and child. Of course she would freak and put them above Caleb. I love Caleb and their relationship, but that can’t compare to the love she has for her own family.
Great moment: Talking to the powerful wizard tower mage. "And you are?" "The Mighty Nein (Nine)" *wizard looks around the room counting, gives confused look, says nothing* 2:03:18
I'm not sure I really enjoyed that conversation like other people did. It was pretty clear that Caleb was trying to say he had made enemies of people that TMN could absolutely not deal with, and poking their heads around the high level magic community was the way to get those people's attention, and Beau decided to make it about Caleb having attachment issues. That wasn't at all what he was talking about, and no matter how he tried to clarify, it didn't work.
@@patricklachance5952 it's very simple. Beau thinks they can take on at least 1 wizard from the assembly. Caleb doesn't. Neither of them are objective about it. And they're both kinda right. The M9 could potentially defeat even a very strong wizard before they even get one spell off, or the opposite could occur. It was completely consistent with their characters. Beau thinks they can handle any threat and Caleb is a pessimist with a fear of the assembly.
@@obsidiannightwolfe13 "FIX HIM." is absolutely that hard moment. I'd put the reveal of Zhara's pregnancy as she fell would've been #2 for me if they hadn't survived.
Got a bit of insight into Beau a bit when Marisha made the comment "I'm better at deception, than persuasion." Makes a bit more sense. HOWEVER, the fact Beau continues to claim she hates people who lie continues to irk me. But that's just because hypocrisy annoys me at a fundamental level.
@@thomasbedient9191 I am not trying to be mean, but I think she wrote herself into a corner with this character. Unless she actually develops as a character, this whole rogue monk thing is stupid.
I agree, it's a problem with the whole group though. They all seem to have this idea in their heads that they got to maintain secrets; and give nothing, even with people of clearly no consequence. Yet time, and time again Matt sets them up to just be straightforward.
@@thomasbedient9191 it is the kind of behavior that is accurate to her kind of trauma. (Slight Spoilers on Beau's backstory) Beau dad is a manipulative narcissistic liar. She hates him and anything that reminds her of him...while also behaving a lot like him; prone to lying, bullying, and self justification. It is a sometimes frustratingly accurate representation of childhood trauma (and sometimes it is Marisha trying to roll deception instead of persuasion because she has proficiency in deception and those moments are the most frustrating because the lies are the most forced and don't really fit).
I just realized the reason why jester’s mom seems so invested in stories is because I mean, how often does she leave that place? Really? It’s her house, her place of business and she’s known so well that if she left she’d get mobbed or harassed or worse. Any time she speaks as well it’s never really experiences that she’s had, but experiences her clients have had. She sits, pretty and waiting, never leaving but always eager to hear what the world is truly like. It’s insane to think it’s been so long since she’s left that place, that even stepping out quickly to give jester a change of clothes made her fearful and anxious.

3:01:30 Laura clapping for Liam and Marisha’s moment. I am always like how are these people not always losing their minds about how talented and amazing their friends are. That Beau and Caleb moment was so good, they care about each other so much but they’re both so awkward and damaged in different ways and can’t figure out how to express it. It’s weird to me (I mean not surprising tbh but still) that people love what Liam is doing and think Marisha can’t roleplay. They all have different strengths but I think they’re all amazing.
Beau: begins immediately lying to the wizard, and backs herself into a corner before telling little half truths. Caleb: I’m sure you lied Beau: I didn’t lie once! Damn it
That whole conversation was cringe AF... It seems like Matt had to bend the Wizard, because they shouldn't get anything from him based on their negotiation skills.
I thought what we saw of Fjord´s backstory was crazy. Emmy award winning Sam Riegel: hold my giant flask Edit: wanted to give credit to Matt too. Him as Luke made me cry
Despite this chapter has other awesome scenes, I loved so much the moment when they all ask Caleb what happened, after he comes back from the teleport circle mark chamber. The way they all ask and talk at once, the silent instant waiting for his answers, the look Caleb has in the eyes, trying to pay atention to them even while he is still pondering about the wise words from their host... and then suddenly Fjord. I laughed a lot.
1:31:23 I think this was when Sam realized matt had at his disposal a bigger and better version of the metagaming pidgeon, available in most of their sessions, called "Yasha"
Yasha’s a PC with the necessity of having to play her. When your DM shoehorns in an NPC that forces your group directions and into decisions, that sucks as a player.

The Tower scene. I took psychic damage. Poor Matt, he has to make his wise powerful npcs look crazy by the fact that they have to act like the group aren't insane, babbling, chronic liars. It was funny though...
they coudlnt have planned it better. obviously they as players and characters did not know about this. but two people who trusted each other were just thrown into a very touch situation
It's super sweet that after Beau and Caleb has any sort of argument, Liam and Marisha always manage to show affection to each other in some sort of way. Both characters are stronghead, they love each other but they argue, like you know, friends do every so often. They don't have to agree with each other but take in what the other person says... and that takes time to truly assimilate. Both had points, Caleb was scared of people hurting the party because of him and Beau thought they could stand their ground and protect Caleb. This whole thing just came from a place of love and deep worry for each other's well being in a very socially awkward way because both suck at communication lol
It's a lack of communication mixed with high emotional intelligence but a lack of experience speaking on this deep of a level. They can say it in their minds and but saying those words outloud??outlook??? Naah
i know sam has a reputation for playing more of the comic relief characters in these campaigns, but his immediate shift in demeanor and intensity when matt mentioned the alchemist's shop gave me actual chills, it's obvious that nott is so much more than what she seems and sam does such an incredible job of playing her,, i'm so invested in her story :')
Nott's interaction with the kid in the dirt cracks me the hell up every time I replay it. The way the Sam and Matt created and played out that scene--and how Marisha was laughing her ass off--so perfect
Beau " Caleb I didn't lie, think what you want" Also Beau "yea we work for the empire and we where sent to the oceans on a mission to find information" But that's not a lie....
The decision to let beau go in the tower was questionable at best. Her questioning calebs communication is laughable. She truly is the most cringe character on the show barely passable fighting skills with questionble decisions when fighting, terrible communication with a backstory that lacks interest. She often acts like a leader when she in truth is an annoying side character who makes a lot of decisions that are questionable at best.
@@Augerboy320 this is way late but when she is leading conversations I have to ask why. She obviously is worse in social situations than Caleb. And Caleb is prone to zoning out in a bad memory if someone accidentally burns themselves while eating

@@csn583Nott wasnt angry at Caleb, but literally at the mages of the Empire. But from Caleb pov this hurt so much. Not only is it because his only close friend just fired at him like that. @Crixus Dixus I see that as Jester being excessively immature and Laura being too paranoid.

Good show.

I completely agree. I look at Liam acting as Caleb and I see myself as if looking in a mirror.

I love how the group had to gradually come to the realization that they had a lot of stuff to talk to a powerful mage about that he might be interested in.
It started out with they wanted in that tower. Then they tried to think up a lie to get them in. Then after talking for a bit they are like "Hey wait a second there is a lot of stuff that we could legitimately talk to him about!"
It is like the insanity of their lives has become so common place they forgot that it might be interesting to someone else.

Everyone else is surprised, but Caleb looks *devastated*.

the whole conversation w Yussa is just: "I don't know, I didn't think I'd get this far"
The whole reasoning for entering the tower was stupendously flimsy "We'll act like we've been sent to inform him of the dangers he's facing!"
He's a super powerful, ancient elvish wizard...
Okay, cool, towers are great...but this IS DnD so we're going to need a highly contrived in-world game-y reason to investigate it."
I mean, the plot about suggesting they want to *warn* him has a strictly in-world reasoning.

Makes him the entire villain just bc they laughed at his name. The straw that broke the camels back lmao

I saw that video ONCE and I tried I really tried to watch it in context of the episode and I COULDNT

I thought what we saw of Fjord´s backstory was crazy.
Emmy award winning Sam Riegel: hold my giant flask
Edit: wanted to give credit to Matt too.
3:44:24 spoiler
But the way Travis and Liam synchronize in shock to slowly move back and Laura dropping the pencil was so funny in this jar dropping moment 😂 But wow this episode was wild 🥲
Caleb has made me cry so many times this campaign it's not even funny
Edit: NOTT TOO, GOD DAMN IT
ME TOO. FREAKING SAM AND LIAM, MAN-
Laura constantly correcting people when they call the Xhorhasians crick even when she isn't there is amazing and I love her so much
I was looking for this comment. It’s so uncomfortable to me a they are just casually throwing out slurs…
@@mmboyd4367 especially cause they knew two (TWO!) completely inoffensive names for the Xhorhasians (aka Kryn)
@@mmboyd4367 imagine getting offended at a so-called "slur" (for a murderous elven cult nation) that is based upon how they cut holes into their chitinous, insect-like armor to make a certain "cricket" screaming sound as air travels through them when they charge into battle (similar to Aztec death whistles, look it up) in order to scare their enemies. The 2nd-hand offense-taking is getting a little sad at this point fam.
@@logansullins4545 They are no more murderous than the empire, in fact in some ways less so.

They're playing pretend
I love how Liam says “Basic ass paper”. It’s so demeaning
So, Toilet Paper, yeah?
Why would you try to lie to the super powerful wizard? HE'S A WIZARD. HE OWNS A MAGIC TOWER. YOU'RE IN HIS MAGIC TOWER. DON'T LIE TO THE SUPER POWERFUL WIZARD WHEN YOU'RE IN HIS MAGIC TOWER.
They had a plan and no reason to lie and Beau just leaps off the fucking reservation. Like what
I mean, even though her lying causing pain to my soul, Beau was the reason they managed to establish friendly relations despite lying so you gotta give it to her, (Cad helped a lot too) and its in character too
@@nealeellis4455 thats more of a break even thing rather than give her credit. She basically just fixed her own screw up
@@nealeellis4455 it genuinely felt like matt just gave it to them. He had to lead the conversation when it got so bad and had to get them back on track with his own suggestions. They failed the interaction but matt wanted to give them their first substantial ally.
@@Augerboy320 I more get the feeling that if they'd done better they may have had him as an ally alot sooner, rather than a slow build to trust.

Just... Wow 😎👍
I love how marias was kidnapped, but instead of becoming bitter from the experience, apparently found a new calling on the sea, and is now a decent guy, more relaxed and all. I just like him
It's called stockholm syndrome sweetheart ^_^
@@OliviaLiliana I'm not your sweetheart, honey.
And in all seriousness, the slight annoyance he shows with the nine on occasion kinda just seems like he has kinda just loosened up. But knowing Matt, it is possible
His name is Marius
The Tower scene. I took psychic damage.
Poor Matt, he has to make his wise powerful npcs look crazy by the fact that they have to act like the group aren't insane, babbling, chronic liars.
It was funny though...
3:44:26 "I thought you were dead" "I'm *Nott* let me see him"
3:36:40 That moment of anger between Nott and Caleb is just heartbreaking to watch
they coudlnt have planned it better. obviously they as players and characters did not know about this. but two people who trusted each other were just thrown into a very touch situation
This explains Nott’s paternal instinct when it comes to protecting M9 (Jester during the dragon fight in the ball of fun) Sam’s a freaking genius.
Maternal*
And then she throws dirt at a child lmao
"it's a chair"
All DMs feel you, Matt
I mean, he could have mentioned just a room, but why did he mention that there was a chair. He clearly was asking for it. lol
Beau " Caleb I didn't lie, think what you want"
Also Beau "yea we work for the empire and we where sent to the oceans on a mission to find information"
But that's not a lie....
Constant cringe from her character from unnecessary lying and antagonism. Sometimes very funny but usually cringy.
@@abanules 1000%
@@Augerboy320 this is way late but when she is leading conversations I have to ask why. She obviously is worse in social situations than Caleb. And Caleb is prone to zoning out in a bad memory if someone accidentally burns themselves while eating
The funny part is, I can totally see Beau believing she pretty much told the truth
2:31:23 'One more day. Or you'll regret it.' Coming from Caleb, this line is just awesome and emotional, like he doesn't want Jester to make the same mistakes he did.
