Thanks, but no thanks, it is full of propaganda, and do not live up to a "update" most is bla bla bla,😳
Way not supply something good to know like:
that Omi-Cold is so mild for overwhelming majority that this is the one we need to get infected with, because you cant stop this anyway, it spread by the water vapour when you breath out, (not by droplets, so masks are like worthless).
And that Omi-cold give about 14 Fold protection against reinfection with Omi-Cold and about 4,4 Fold, against D-elta.
And, so it will outcompete D-elta.
And that will create Herd Immunity. ( Natural Immunity👍 to end this pandemic)✔
SO ENDEMIC Will START IN A MONTH OR SO 🎁
And it is impossible to keep track of infected by testing, (to many asymptomatic)
And, so the real amount infected will be many times more than "positive cases"
And that it will only take about a month as soon the "wild fire get a grip"
And this will bring all in to Endemic (same as for South Africa a week ago)

Regarding the discussion around 10:30, I think these restrictions are not applied to protect the unvaccinated. They're applied to protect quality of health care. Letting even more people getting infected at the same time would lead to even more people needing hospital care. They can and I strongly believe they will be lifted when it will be clear hospitals can handle the load even without them, just like it is with influenza.

Great show but I have to respectfully disagree with Professor Racaniello here. My community here in Queens has been gathering exactly like normal since the Spring and no rise in cases. Omicron variant has almost everything to do with the spread of the virus. Additionally, many nurses and my physician colleagues (all of whom are vaccinated and even boosted) are getting infected. They had not significantly change behavior. Omicron is a different beast of a virus, has many more mutations and has been shown to evade both post infection and vaccine mediated humoral immunity. Thankfully T-cell epitopes remain intact in both immune populations which is likely helping with the low hospitalization rates.

Love your show but wanted to kindly make this point.

@ 3:02 Daniel reads something that is *wrong.* The CDC says back to work after 5 days if asymptomatic *OR your symptoms are resolving.*
CDC: _"People with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days and _*_if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours),_*_ follow that by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter."_
That's a huge difference from being asymptomatic. Also, the CDC said no test is required before going back to work and this applies to both the vaxxed and unvaxxed. These changes were done at the request of Delta Airlines who asked for this to be applied only to the asymptomatic vaxxed and only after a negative test. But the CDC lowered the bar for returning to work.

So, regarding the shortening of the isolation time to 5 days, I have concerns about what will happen in the workplace. Pre-COVID 19, the culture in hospitals in particular, but much of the American workforce in many industries, did not value the employee's well being or taking time off due to illness. While the new guideline may say that only asymptomatic individuals can end the quarantine at 5 days, I cannot imagine this being followed all the time. My prediction is that staff who report a covid infection will now be expected to return to duty and face disciplinary action if they do not, regardless of symptom level or safety.
From my own antecdata, being infected with "mild" covid as a young, healthy vaccinated person, I was just barely functional at the 10 day mark and most of my family/friends reported the same experience. There is no way I could have been safe to provide patient care at day 6.
I can just see the option to shorten isolation in certain situations becoming a mandate in the context of the current climate, especially in the hospital setting where employee wellbeing is not a high priority.

I think it’s important to make clear that the surge in child hospitalizations is being driven by children hospitalized for other reasons but just so happen to test positive with COVID upon admission as opposed to children showing up and being hospitalized for COVID and COVID-related complications. This was recently noted by both Offit too.

    • @JM.5387

Some of the cases are in that category, but to claim that this is what's "driving the surge" is misleading. Pediatric ICUs full of covid patients are not incidental infections.

The number of cases is going down in Germany after taking strong measures to protect hospitals from a delta wave. This combined with early checks/tests of travelers from Southern Africa has limited Omicron to 10% (last week). In about 3 weeks one would expect Omicron to dominate.
I am happy to make the prediction that then Germany will see a spike in cases like all other countries where omicron is dominated. There is no sudden huge change in behavior explaining these spikes. There is a quick take over of omicron.
Stay safe America. Overwhelmed hospitals and lack of workers will impact everyone, not just the unvaccinated. (And we should also care about people how were manipulated by the vaccinated For News millionaires.)

I know a couple who tried and were rebuffed, (couldn't get an appointment, weekend, oops now it's too late...blah blah blah.) I don't trust CDC or FDA, lost all faith in them. At least docs in the trenches are saving lives and as time goes by they are being vilified right and left. TREATMENT AND VACCINES SHOULD BE GIVEN THE SAME WEIGHT. But docs are being prevented from using old safe off the shelf drugs in the early stage to PREVENT hospitalization.

With regards to monoclonal s, I’ve heard that the Sotrovimab Monoclonal works best with Omnicron. I don’t know which one they were offered. I don’t know if they had the Delta or Omnicron? The CDC conveniently didn’t ramp up sequencing until case counts were blowing up! Both my daughter & friend followed the FLCCC protocol when they were first diagnosed positive. They wasted no time. I was able to call clinics on their behalf to check appointment availability. They did fill up quick. It's it slightly tedious pretending some of these new variants aren't responsible for increased numbers. I mean they literally know why they are now, and there is no evidence "human changes in behaviour" so drastically spark these sudden massive jumps - see London. Sure, in some cases it might be merely human behaviour such as winter vs summer but not to the extent we have seen in variant spikes.

    • @rasmasyean

From the epicenter (Queens, NYC), I can tell you what it looks like from hindsight from my perspective. 2021 Omicron NYC spread seems to mirror 2020 Wuhan-Original NYC spread. The only difference is that there were barely any tests back then and the sparse old-school PCR's available were reserved for ppl who were pretty much guaranteed to die if they didn't go to hospital. Some died in thier homes not meeting the "hotline questionairre criteria"! It spread so fast under the radar while they were still arguing about lockdowns and masking effectiveness. It just doesn't reflect in the statistics, thats all.
ONE case is counted when a whole store obviously was exposed (most who didn't have any symptoms, or didn't realize it was mild COVID). I can stand at my train station stairs and point in every direction and diagonal and tell you a story of a dead essential worker within a couple of blocks. I don't know any residents so, imagine the spread in the buildings they occupy. In fact one deli guy told me his lockdown adventure of witnessing some volunteers or military (he didn't know who they really were) fetching 2 body bags out of a nearby building and just flinging them into a truck like it was routine boring work. Some food pantry girl was asked if she wanted to help "sort out and stack bodies". So, yes...COVID spreads fast, regardless of variant. And personally, I always thought the virus will mutate to escape our vaccines and like the flu, a modified one will eventually be in order. Omicron seems to prove this theory I guess so I don't think it has anything to do with the virus property other than "immune escape".

      @MrOzzyCam 2 роки тому

Transmission and transmissibility is not discussed well in the media. Purely from a Virology point of view, it takes lab work to demonstrate the mechanisms of increased infectiousness of a variant. Vincent is looking at this through the lens of virology and making the point that there are other variables that come into effect.
Founder effect, immune escape from prior infection stimulated immunity or escape from immunity from vaccination and factors such as season, behaviour, non pharmaceutical interventions such as social distancing and closing non essential services. These are all variables that confound knowing in black and white terms with absolute certainty.
In determining transmissibility we need to establish and estimate what factors are due to changes in the nature of the virus. Is it more infectious due to higher viral loads? Sites of replication such us more upper airway, cell entry and detachment dynamics, viability on surfaces, etc?, and the changes to the nature of the host. How a population behaves, Sturgis etc, being vaccinated, wearing masks, social distancing, lockdown fatigue etc., plus how and what health orders are enforced? Not at all or welding people in their homes, fines or jail.
Vincent remains to be convinced it is due to changes in the virus, he will wait for more data now. He is not wrong in that variation in behaviour is a driver that we can observe to clearly have an effect on transmission such as the Sturgis Bike Rally.
Where Vincent and I have agreed to disagree, agreeably:
That all said and without putting an R value on it, effective rates of transmission etc. There is plenty of Epidemiological evidence IMHO to demonstrate that compared to the ancestral strain the Delta and Omicron variants are a lot bloody more infectious, by comparison to the ancestral strain! With the ancestral strain demonstrably less bloody infectious at the start of 2020 in Australia, ergo, the variants are more infectious!
What is my data and evidence for that you ask? Australia!
Australia controlled the Ancestral SARS-CoV-2 at the start of 2020 and kept the country practically virus free for many months until a single case of delta hit on the 16th of June 2021 sparked a third wave. We had no vaccination at the start of 2020 and we were not using lockdowns and social distancing until things were well going in March of 2020.
June 16th 2020 started the Delta wave in Australia with a single case released into the community in NSW, now Omicron has hit and taken over in a matter of days! Australia is also far more vaccinated now than the USA!
We can't control these variants nearly as easily as we did in 2020 because they are demonstrably MORE INFECTIOUS. Immune evasion, vaccine evasion, severe use of extreme lockdowns etc were all not factors in March 2020 when the Ruby Princess docked and dumped over 100 infected cases into the heart of Sydney to go their merry way with no testing! Imagine if that had been cases of Omicron that you did that with! How do you think that would go dumping a 100+ infected people into a big city with a totally immune naive community?
It is clear the ancestral strain wasn't that well adapted to humans yet at the start of 2020, the virus though highly infectious, it just wasn't as infectious as the better adapted Omicron clearly is now! This current rate of transmission can't be explained via behavioural changes or immune evasion alone IMHO!
Science is about discussion and debate, if we all agreed then there would not be the critical evaluation of ideas that is required, data is open to interpretation and we choose what data to look at and how much weight we will give it. Peer review is for this reason, to discuss and defend a particular hypothesis on the interpretation of the available data. We can all be wrong, and I could well be, and I am open to be proven so.
Take a look at the timeline and case data of the Australian outbreak in detail before people disagree with me please. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_in_Australia#First_wave:_March%E2%80%93April_2020
      Case data

Australia now 76% fully vaccinated for the entire population! When ancestral struck it was 0%, when Delta hit it was 4%, when Omicron hit we were at 76% already!

@A Qthe UK is an interesting case. When the UK first set out on a pandemic policy it was seriously pursing herd immunity via infection. It wasn't until the UK did the modelling and realised that even based on the most conservative estimates, the hospitals would be overwhelmed and the number of deaths would be unpalatable. They reversed course but too little too late. Australia did take some steps, such as banning flights from China very early on. Though Australia could have done MUCH better, we still ended up after a year and a half with ONLY 30K cases and 900 dead, we did better than most countries, Australia worked out how to do lockdowns and quarantines though not always effective they were sufficient in 2020 in the end to control the ancestral outbreaks in Sydney and then later in Melbourne. Then in June 16th 2021 Delta hit (we introduced some of the most severe lockdowns with fines, mask mandates etc. in the world, vaccine drives, massive testing was always less than 1% positivity [until Omicron hit now it is up at over 18% positivity in NSW], QR passports and check ins the LOT) and now Omicron.
We are now 6 months later up to 460,657 confirmed cases, (though testing has just collapsed under the current case load), and 2,257 dead and counting. Australia lacked the confounding effects of Alpha, Beta, Gamma etc. clouding the picture. We have had 3 types. An, De & Om that is all. Delta arrived into an essentially naive population with only 4% fully vaccinated in June and having only had 30,000 confirmed cases in Australia up until Delta arrived. Australia is now as a population, 76% fully vaccinated, so 72% of that is within the last 6 months.

wasnt there a study showing that the full length spike protein can actually go inside the nucleus ans inhibit DNA repair? it was recommended that future therapies do not use the full length spike protein and only use RBD since a lot of pptentially hazardous issues have been linked to the full length protein

Dr. Racaniello, if the people who keep spreading the misinformation do not have virologists such as yourself to tell them the facts about what we know and what we don't know, the misinformation will continue to spread.
I urge you to reconsider your stance on not legitimizing certain podcasts by talking to the hosts. I don't think this will be a detriment, I believe it will wake some out of serious limbic capture and cognitive dissonance.

It would be interesting to make a data comparison of Israel and Palestine, mainly because Israel has one of the highest vaccination rates and even going for a 4th one, and Palestine has one of the lowest vaccination rates where If I'm not mistaken only about 20% of the population has taken 2 doses.

Please can you address this Dr Malone character that has just been on Joe Rogan. I haven't had a vaccine as of yet. I've been skeptical mainly because of my distrust in the government and honestly my tendency to listen to conspiracy videos. Since discovering TWIV i am learning more towards getting rhe jab But you can't blame people for not being vaccinated when there is claims from Dr Malone etc that are not addressed.

And Peter McCullough. And these aren't quacks as the media would have you believe. Dr. Peter McCullough is likely one of if not the top cardiologist in the world. I'm basing this on him not only having close to 700 publications, but also is cited more than anyone else as an individual on this covid stuff. Its a difficult job for media to smear or sensor a guy like this but they're trying just like they have with Dr. Malone, Geert Vanden Bosch, Dr. Paul Marik, and many others who spoken out. (Oh should I mention the Barrington declaration signed by 10 of thousands of scientists, doctors etc from the US and UK). I would just like to see an honest response to some of their concerns instead of sensoring and fake claims against these highly credible individuals like calling them antivaxers which is just childish and isnt a counter argument if thats what they think they are doing. I'm not gonna hold my breath though.

I would love to hear these conversations. Whilst I trust TWIV implicitly and I choose to get all of my Covid related information from this channel. I think there would be huge value in educators like Vincent tackling the claims made by the prominent voices fuelling the anti-vax / anti-trust movement.
I know at least, when I speak with friends or colleagues regarding the pandemic, it’s individuals like Dr Malone / Dr McCullough who they refer to when attempting to back up their claims vaccines aren’t safe etc. I share this channel and encourage those people to watch TWIV. But to be able to cite the actual discussion where the counter claims were made, would be very useful to a dummy like me 🤪
Then again, maybe if I possessed the knowledge Vincent and the guests on TWIV do. I also might think, ah it just ain’t worth my time trying to challenge the naysayers. It’s conflict right? and not everyone craves that in their life. I’d personally liken it to the discussions I avoid on religion. I have my views and other people have theirs. I don’t go out of my way attempting to convert others to my way of thinking.
Anyway for what it’s worth, those are my thoughts on the matter. I’m just really glad I have this channel to keep me sane instead of listening to the newspapers and scaremongering on the news channels.
      Respect everyone… here’s to 2022 🍻
