According to forecasts, we won’t be able to replace hydrocarbons in the next 50 years. Moreover, giving up oil completely is impossible in some industries, such as the petrochemical industry.
In today’s Russia, oil is produced by different methods, the main of which is waterflooding. However, only 30-40% of oil deposits can be extracted using this method. Therefore, Russian researchers, from Skoltech labs in particular, have been developing innovative approaches and solutions that will allow predicting and improving these processes. One of the promising areas is digital twins of real rock samples, which can be used to test new production methods.
