Im biased. I own a 2005 KLR 650 with 62k on the clock and still runs perfect and I love it. Apparently if you throw on a Mikuni 42mm pumper carb along with a sports muffler, you can get heaps more power and perform clutch free wheelies. Thats going to be my next project. Look it up on Glenno's Garage on UA-cam.
Had the same 2006. Had all decked out with happy trail engine gaurds with highway pegs. Sold to guy from Alaska. He flew to Wa state to pick up and ride back. Miss that bike, but the other guy was thrilled. I have 2009 now. Bought in 2018 with 7800 mi. Still new with goodies. Ride every day to/from work. Find all kinds of different routes. 52 mpg's on this one. Good times.
I was really hoping for more. More in depth review.. what was similar? What all was different? Drag race? Is the gearing speed the same? How are they off road in comparison? Sooooo many questions unanswered
There are other sources... See Big Rock ADVs goodbye to the KLR... He mentioned a few.... But main things, besides the fairings is... Over an inch more ground clearance and 15 fewer pounds on the gen 1... fuses went from glass AGW to blade type (There is a conversation kit for gen 1 bikes.)
Would have been much better if you had narrative while you're riding instead of the music. I didn't get much out of the video. Get more detailed on the differences. And no off road? You're missing half of the importance of the bike!
I'm with ya...i was hoping for some real and useful info. I'm looking to buy a KLR and trying to learn the pros and cons of the redesigns and this video told me nothing.
The 2006 looks more like what a dual sport bike should look like. The 2017 looks like they borrowed the nose fairing from a Ninja, don't care for that at all.
my buddy has a klr 600 1983 I think 2 years ago he totally restored it well whatever you want to call it it had 58 thousand klm's on it never been touched ever no vavle well maybe an adj here or there but no major engine work no piston rings bearings nothing he bought it new so I no the bike but my point is that bike my opinion is better than those 2 in a few ways nothing major but its just a better machine
Since everything os backwards in astrailia then why isnt the throttle on the left handlebar and the clutch on the right? I mean seriously astrailia wants to be different from the rest of the world exept for england then they should put more effort into being different
Opinion Pole, come over here and say that. No that is not a fight challenge; just come ride on the side you wish to on the freeway then tell me that is the side you want to remain on. heh heh. Horses for courses. On the good side; I have never heard of a left hand or right hand drive motorbike.
So 13 min later and I have no real info on the differences between the Gen 1 KLR and the Gen 2. Thanks.

Tim Allen . . Have you had any mechanical issues out of your 2000?
Did you do the doo? I haven't and mines got 88000ks on it now.
I actually like the styling of the 2006 better ,real stream lined looking aesthetics have no place on dual sport bikes, just my personal opinion.
True to this day.
Tip one: always wear gloves, you can ride nude but always wear gloves. Trust me, gravel rash on your hands hurts.

Did no one hear that gunshot? What happened?
I like the look of the first gen better
You got a lot of "thumbs down" cause there was not very much information in this video.

Agreed. What is this obsession with music?

Yup, total badasses! :O lol
You can do anything and ride anywhere on a KLR.....Almost!!
