  • After the tobacco is brought in from the fields it needs to be hung to cure. The traditional place to cure the tobacco has been in the rafters of the barn. Tobacco rails will be laid across the rafters and the tobacco on the lathes or sticks will be laid across. Curing will take anywhere from 2-3 months.

Thanks for sharing. Tobacco sure is a hard working crop. Lots of work. Great to see the young man helping his uncle. He will definitely be a hard and dedicated worker as he gets older.

I really enjoy your videos. Is smoke still used in the curing process?

Not for this tobacco. It is air cured, stripped, graded, baled, sold to buyer and it is cured in the bales Inna fermentation type process. The leaves are then used for cigars.

@@LancoAmish Am I right, this is the name of the type of Inna fermentation? What is its essence, can you tell me, please.

Great video. I find tobacco to be a fascinating crop. As labor intensive as it is, I'm wondering what price this crop will bring.

$6 for wrapper, $4 for binder, $2 for straight strip and about $1 per pound for filler.

Climbing around 40 feet in the air wearings crocs. Ugh. I thought the Amish were more sensible.
