I love that his moveset has remained almost entirely unchanged for 10 years. A few moves got fleshed out by the power of newer engines but ultimately its the same thing. You can see it as him moving closer to perfecting what he is good at, while Dante you basically have to relearn every game.
@damsen978 Have you played any DMC game besides DMC3 and 5? Dante doesn't even have the Rebellion in DMC1, he starts with the Force Edge, which becomes the Sparda. He then also grabs Alestor and Ifrit, both of which only appear in DMC1. In DMC 2 he has the Rebellion for the first time (in order of release) and also has Vendetta and Merciless, two swords that also never appear again In 3 he picks up Nevan and Agni and Rudra, which are never seen again, and Beowulf and Cerberus. The former is never used by Dante ever again, and neither is the latter though a better version of the same idea pops up later. In DMC 4 Dante gets Gilgamesh and Lucifer, and while Gilgamesh's basic idea gets carried over to DMC5 neither weapon actually does. Finally, in DMC5, Dante gets the Sparda back, and gets the Devil Sword Dante as basically an upgraded version of the Rebellion. He picks up better Cerberus and Balrog as a better Gilgamesh, but also picks up Cavalier. Overall, in 5 games Dante uses 17 different melee weapons, but I could see that technically argued down to 14. Meanwhile Vergil has only every had 3 melee weapons. Dante also equips 12 total different firearms.
