    Bro. Micah I tell you all the time how you have been blessed by God with “the gift of help”. The fact you don’t have to come out of that barrel until you are done packing, is a blessing in and of itself. I have to cut, gather, load in, STEP IN, pack, STEP OUT. Repeat. As the barrel gets full the STEPPING IN AND STEPPING OUT part gets tricky and dangerous. But the reward is worth the risk and effort in my opinion. AND you are making use of plant materials already growing (basically FREE), to make a high quality and healthy feed source for livestock. Sounds like a no brainer to me. 👍🏽 on the plantains.

      That’s absolutely true on all counts! But I can tell you that it hasn’t always been the case! I have no idea how many times I’ve roofed entire houses by myself because I couldn’t find help! I’ve built buildings alone and done some crazy stuff! So I’ve paid my dues! I’ve had people try to hire these guys out from under me, and I can tell you, I wasn’t the nicest person at that time! I know what I’ve got, and I put tons of work into these boys, I ain’t just letting someone hire em out from under me!😂😂😂

      I am fortunate in that I do have my own construction business and so the boys don’t have to go out to find work. A lot of fathers cannot take their boys with them to work and so it is impossible to stop the inevitable!

      It’s all in the teaching. I know how I was taught and reared to think. You have obviously done just that. And they have obviously grown with and into your business. That’s the makings of an awesome legacy. And the beauty of it all is they apparently live and like living it. It’s obvious (also at least to me), you’ve taught them to see the big picture and taught and explained the why’s and the how comes; and not just because I said so. Good job my Brother. Good job indeed. And the good part is, you’re not done yet. 😂 Then comes the “grands”. 😂😂😂

      That’s absolutely true! Teaching kids to actually think and make decisions based on what is right…… not because of peer pressure or what everyone else is doing…..it’s ok to be different from everyone else, knowing that the majority is usually wrong.

    Great job on the weight loss Brother Micah! The farm and homestead is rocking as usual, happy to see such a good use for a mower. Skipping breakfast (intermittent fasting) helped me to get rid of the rest of my stubborn weight. From 215 to 165 largest weight was 310 many years ago, fasting really took it off quickly and after a while i just couldn't eat as much
    Had high triglycerides before fasting, much better now.

    The advantage of being a micro farm, you can harvest feed from your yard/drive. Can you imagine running a forage harvesterin those thight spaces, " sorry about your clothes line honey, I'll get it out in about three months or so"😜👍

    • @McGieHomesteadAdventures
      @McGieHomesteadAdventures  3 місяці тому

      😂😂😂 Very good observation! But the desire to grow into a larger and larger farm is very strong for some people……. But if we look carefully, the bottom line at the end of the year is not good! It’s a lot easier for a big operation to lose everything and go under, than for a small farm that has the ability to be very diverse, and have very little overhead!!!

  • @jAITtROtULL

    I just want to be certain, this is not the same leaf that comes from Plantain (Platanos) Fruit, right? I also know of Polk Sallet and this is a weed. My mom used to pick and cook them. I always liked them even with that bitter undertaste. She would make them the same way she did collards. My mother was Black and grew up on a farm in NC. I also fry plantains, we call it Tostones. My father was Puerto Rican so I eat both foods regularly. You should try it, it's really good with beans, or any kind of stew but I also eat mine with garlic. :)

    • @McGieHomesteadAdventures
