It would be nice is Amex offered one points earning category outside of travel for the platinum to make the card more usfull when you are not traveling. Currently I have the card and I got it with a bonus where I can get 10x back on gas and groceries for 6 months which is awesome. I’d like to see maybe a 3x back category in gas or something to make the card more useful outside of an airport.
The Hotel Collection, I find useless. Rates are oftentimes higher, which may or may not be made up for by the credit. You are also foregoing elite benefits, elite nights, points etc. FHR, OTOH is great and can be stacked with your elite benefits, and you will receive the better benefits in the case of overlap. Yeah, they may be out of most people's price range but there are some stellar properties that are affordable, mainly in Asia. StR Bangkok is a good one. Stack a 2 night FHR booking with a free night from the Business and now defunct Bonvoy card, and you get a 4 night stay for around $800(taking into account the annual fees paid for those free nights), which includes breakfast for the two FHR nights, 4pm late checkout, room upgrade, and a free (expensive)dinner. True 5 star, elite member(minus lounge) experience for what you would pay for a Courtyard in NYC. Its a worthy splurge for us mere mortals that can't afford $1,000/night rooms.
I have every one except the black card. My plan was to downgrade from Platinum when green came out but now that I have them all I don't want to give up the Platinum!💳💳💳😱
I actually received kind of a nice decked out invitation to upgrade my gold card to platinum. If I move to a city where I can take advantage of the Uber credit, I'd totally do it. But not in my little one horse town.
Kevin Fransen in case this is an alternative in your area, the Uber credit works with Uber Eats. I’ve been using the pick up option on Uber Eats to use my credit. Hope this may be helpful.
I have Green I just got, Rose Gold and Platinum. I'm luckily or maybe "unlucky" that I'm in the military depending on how you look at it that I don't have to pay any annual fee for any card so I use them both for different reasons to maximize points. I use Platinum for all travel and booking plus the use of the Priority pass when I travel internationally and for the 5x points ect. I use the Gold for the groceries and the restaurants because my wife and I love eating at all sorts of restaurants and I can also use the Gold for buying gift cards at the grocery store for larger purchases like Home Depot and best buy ect when I make a large purchase so I can multiply the points earnings. Then I just signed up for the green card since holiday shopping is pretty much now and I essentially spend the 2k in about 2 days to earn the bonus 30k points. I also have a chase sapphire reserve card that has a pretty nice limit which I used occasionally and large large purchases I plan on paying off in like 2-3 months. I def don't spend anywhere near the amount to fall into the centurion realm but I don't have any kids yet either so who knows maybe one day when I put them through school or whatever I can just pay everything with it and one day be invited. EDIT: I also signed up for it because I wanted a new carry on luggage and used the 100$ AWAY statement credit to get a nice new carry on luggage piece so not to shabby. OH super edit: If ANYONE knows how to essentially pay their mortgage with an AMEX card that will greatly increase my monthly and annual spend, Even I can pay with my CHASE card I wouldn't mind it so I can get the points. Will come in handy when I purchase another house and have rental income I can essentially be paying both mortgages a month.
I just finished meeting my Capital One Venture spending requirement. Looking for my next card to attack. Should i get the AMEX Gold, Green, or Silver? Or another Chase card? Decisions...
Another point which you missed is that if you have the Amex Plat, you could get the Gold card without any fees. In that case, you could use both of them with maxing out the benefits of MRs. $550 for Plat and Gold.
The Gold+Plat is a popular combo, but one thing I don't like about it is the very narrow definition of "travel". Pretty much just restaurants, hotels (and only prepaid hotels at that), and airfare. Compare that to the Propel or especially the BofA Premium Rewards, where things like cruises, train and bus tickets, tolls, amusement park and museum tickets, and many more count for the travel category, whereas they'd be 1x MR items at Amex.
So how do I retrieve the last $10 airline credit I have remaining for JetBlue this year? I can't fly with them anytime soon, and they don't sell gift cards on their website. Someone give me an idea please.
Why would you downgrade? I love my Platinum card as I mainly fly Delta so the lounge access is huge and the Coneriege is really awesome as well as the FHR. Plus TSA/GE credit ever 4 years lol. Why not pair it with the Green card for the 3x on travel and food plus the CLEAR credit?
even if I want to have any of those amex card, it's useless since all those benefits are not available in the philippines. how much is the interest of each amex card on unpaid balance?
Is the Clear credit a per calendar year credit, or every 12 months based on your anniversary date? If anniversary date, I’m wondering what would happen if you charged Clear on day 366, then canceled the card before the due of that cycle, in order to avoid the new annual fee.
This green card is now a credit card I believe not a charge card. New terms and conditions says nothing about being a charge card or paying your balance in full every month. We need confirmation on this as it’s a game changer for those of us at the 4 credit card limit cap for amx
I just got an invitation to the Platinum card. I think I will see if the Green card can be extended to me instead. Seems to be more up my aisle. I am not a world traveler and don't use credit cards much anymore, eventhough I have 7 of them, ranging from tier 1 through 3, but just don't like annual fees. My new OllO card by invitation and my Citi Simplicity are my go to cards. Love them. The Green card would be more like my totally most used debit card and Bluebird.
Platinum versions I Disappearing fast Ameritrade amx platinum is now discontinued and are rumors that Morgan Stanley platinum is going to be discontinued. They are going the way of the Mercedes Benz platinum. Sad to see the different flavors of amx platinum start to disappear. I wonder if they are ramping up a new product or just trying to condense it to one platinum. For sure interested on the amx thought process.
I dont think they need to swap out dining, but there should have been ONE MORE 3x category--probably should have been something that they're known for --like online shopping
Your info on the away credit is wrong. Jan 15th, is the last day you can sign up to get the credit. Whenever you decide to sign up, you have three months to use that credit from your sign up date.
Are these benefits available outside the US, given that most of the benefits are pretty much in the US? Could I get these benefits in Africa, India, China or Europe?
Nice work..I've viewed this UA-cam channel several times to keen in on the advise. During that time, it came to my mind how come you didn't mention the Amex blue everyday cash card? Please update and advise. Thanks
Hi Shifu Im new to they this CC cards Ive always had a chase freedom didn't use much always a cash guy. But I was watching a video on the Platinum Amex and applied through a youtube video was accepted and I need to spend 5000$ in 3 months for 70k points. I had a credit score of 757 is it because I have no bills or 0 balance on all my accounts have no mortgage or any payments. and now I applied again and capital one venture denied me. why?? I was accepted for the Platinum just 30 minutes earlier. I want to get into the churning because I travel a lot. your videos are going to save me a lot. I could have saved soooo much if I new all the perks 10 years ago. I used to think centurion lounge was only for millionaires"I envied them so much". I am currently living in China and work here part time and vacationing part time all the time. where they don't accept Amex much here so I want to go to the Chase Saphire Reserve, ( I saw your video about the 2 cards overlap each other in perks but don't mind spending the extra $450 annual fee) but am afraid that they might deny me too. ( afraid to apply so soon again) since getting my amex platinum. My credit went down to a 690. why???. was it because of Amex Platinum acceptance and Captiol one hard inquiry? will it go back up over time? when? can I meet my minimum spend on platinum with the gold card they give you for free when you have the platinum? or is it separate account? I want the 4x points for groceries since I own a restaurant in USA and need to buy $1000 every other day at a wholesale grocery warehouse. can I do that? I want all the points I can earn. I spend a lot every month ! can I swipe $5000 at my restaurant? to meet the spending minimum? will amex be suspicious or should I do it slowly. I am now a loyal subscriber of you and SEbby. please take the time to reply me and can't find it on google anywhere. really need some help as my Platinum card arrives tomorrow. Thanks.
KNIGHT SHYFT Cheesecake Factory is still on the list of restaurants that you will get the dining credit for. I used it right at the end of the year. He might’ve just forgotten to mention it.
If you don’t travel multiple times a year, it would make more sense to have the gold over the platinum, due to the points earning potential . Would you agree ? If I travel it’s once a year, if I am lucky, twice . But mainly once. @thecreditshifu
Marco Romano if you’re not traveling your honestly probably better off with the blue cash preferred. You actually get more on groceries for that and you get cash back on gas too.
HKSxHAVOCxANGEL yea it’s not bad for travel, although I wish it came with free access to centurion lounge or global entry credit lol HKSxHAVOCxANGEL I have had the gold card for like 5-6 years . Would I be grandfathered in for the annual fee and 2x gas as well?
HKSxHAVOCxANGEL I read online that existing gold members only had that gas 2x perc until October 2019, then it would be gone. and that the annual fee will go up regardless. Hate to give you bad news lol
I live in New Orleans and I’m a meat and seafood clerk, and earn 20k a year. The Amex Platinum so far has Been good to me, but I might stick to what I have or go with the Amex gold ?
That's an expensive card for 20K year in income, but if you have a cheap cost of living, or others contributing, and spend enough on travel to earn $550 in value, why not? I would personally go Gold.
I believe so, on the green it is a statement credit so it refunds $100 of any spending it detects on CLEAR, on centurion you can add 3 family members to the membership that comes with the card
It’s technically still a charge card but has a “pay over time” feature with no minimum. On the gold card that feature is allowed only on purchases over 100 dollars. The green card can use that feature on a 99 cent purchase. So it’s more like a hybrid.
Because it is still a charge card. There were some news articles saying it is a credit card now, but when you look at the terms and conditions you realize it just has the added pay over time feature like Alvaro explains. So maybe that qualifies it as a credit card but I don’t really view that as important, I believe it still reports as “open” credit account to your credit report
The Credit Shifu I believe it is now a credit card not a charge card. Charge card is no where to be found on the terms and conditions. It’s a big deal in my mind because your only allowed to have four credit cards from amx where as you could have as many as you like for charge you also can no longer upgrade or downgraded the card after a year. Still needs to be confirmed if someone applies for it with four amx cards already than indeed it’s now a credit card still looking for confirmation
its all about cash flow and life styles. some millionaires earn a lot, also spend a lot. others earn decently but save a lot more. if they justify saving thousands on economy class that gets them to the same destination in a same timely manner as exactly same as business class does only with less comfort, and invest the opportunity cost to something else that earns them money, let them be.
Not really, they just added the pay over time feature, but you can still spend above the limit for pay over time and it acts like a charge card, so it is more of a hybrid
The biggest change to the green card is that it's NOT A CHARGE CARD. It's a credit card. The video is a bit misleading, as the green card isn't truly in the same product line anymore. Correct me if I'm wrong, but AMEX will not allow a product change between a charge card product and a credit product - this eliminates the downgrade path for Plat/Gold Cardmembers which is a very important thing to point out if true. An update with information about this would be awesome.
Take in to account the once in a lifetime policy with Amex - if you were going to apply to one and know you are spending money, have the credit, etc.. I would go for the platinum first. If you take the bonus offer for the gold, you wont get it for the platinum later even if you apply for it separately. Sometimes they will offer an upgrade bonus or target you with a bonus but that is not a guarantee. From what I have been told, most of the requirements for the plat/gold are overlapped. Since they have such a high annual fee, their requirements are a little less strict. (we are still talking 700+ without a doubt though) Also they are charge cards (even though they have the flexible spending/pay over time) - With this being said, don't get the gold expecting an upgrade to the platinum as that isn't guaranteed to be offered to you. I get it if you want to build your credit/trust with them by going gold before platinum though. I have the gold because it fits my needs as I dont really travel much but do occasionally so i like the travel insurance/upgrade options when I need it(not sure if this is exclusive to my business or if its on the personal as well) Again if you are doing it for the bonus offer you need to consider their one time bonus policy.
Seth Allen not doing it for the bonus. I'll take the bonus for whichever card I get first, but it's not my main priority, it's the perks of the cards overtime as thiers used. Thanks for the info though, I'll keep it in mind.
@@lorumipsum1129 Well in that case it doesn't really matter, whichever one you think would be good! He also has a good video comparing the different charge type cards from Amex that is the green, gold, plat, and cent. The video is super awesome and really shows what you would need based on your lifestyle and also the best benefits for your spending style. It also compares the cards briefly to competitors cards
The price increase to 250 and closing of the airline gift card loophole killed the gold for me. Got the green for 45k MR, after one year, I may go back to gold, not sure.
The Amex Gold is the easiest travel card with an annual fee to break even without the credits. 4x on groceries and dinning makes the break even point at $350 per month (assuming a $0.015 per point).
The green card might be the easiest way to be a resident! Omg 😲 thank you
Yep, Just $150 a year and you are in!

What are the approval requirements for the gold card?
Millionaires that take economy class? I call that CHEAP .
Eddy Perez ahaha or they rather spend their money on their mansion and shit
its all about cash flow and life styles. some millionaires earn a lot, also spend a lot. others earn decently but save a lot more. if they justify saving thousands on economy class that gets them to the same destination in a same timely manner as exactly same as business class does only with less comfort, and invest the opportunity cost to something else that earns them money, let them be.
Shon C. That’s an excellent way to become a millionaire!

Can you buy a Car with Charge Card so get the ponits.
No. Dealerships don't allow that. You can charge your extended warranty if you opt for that.
I thought amex green turned into a credit card?
Not really, they just added the pay over time feature, but you can still spend above the limit for pay over time and it acts like a charge card, so it is more of a hybrid
@@TheCreditShifu thank you for the clarification, shifu!!!
I agree I don’t think this is a charge card which is a game changer for amx

I'm thinking on getting the Amex Platinum in the next year or two, or getting the gold and upgrading to the Platinum later.
How did you get the 45k offer?
