I was in NYC paying for my dinner with the platinum. An older guy at the table across saw me whipping it out and said "dont you have the gold?? Use the gold". We started talking and turns out he worked pretty high up in my industry. One thing led to another and I got hired at his company making almost double the salary I had before. Hey Ben. We’re seeing more and more cards doing double spending requirements 40k for $3k then 20k for $10k for example. My theory is this is to discourage rapid churning. Would love to hear your thoughts in a video 👌🏻
Slick Reviews - you nailed it, that’s exactly their intent, to get rid of churners (like my neighbor) and incentivize you to keep using the card. Interesting observation/comparison, AmEx is using the carrot approach like targeting me to spend $2k on Ascend for 20k pts (up to 2x) and $1k on HHonors card to 10k pts (up to 2x), while Chase is using the stick approach lengthening the Sapphire rule up to 48 months now I think. Seems the cobranded cards are using the $15k, $20k, and higher targets for the next tier of bonus miles/points.

Alright, a few off-topic questions: In the Uk, it states that if you buy an airline ticket through Amex, you get 3 points per £1 spent. I have a digital card with Emirates who also states that if I book with them, I get 2x points. So does that total to 5 points per £1 or separate? Does it earn points for with the airlines? Would I also benefit from just sticking with 1 airline or multiple? It then leads on to how I should purchase my tickets and the best value. If I wanted business class would I benefit more from: 1) Cash + Miles 2) Upgrade from economy class 3) Buy business class straight from miles Would really appreciate a response Cheers
The Emirates card, do you mean a card from their frequent flyer program? If so, then yes you will earn the Amex points for every £ spent on plane tickets with your Amex and you will also get Emirates miles for the miles flown in the Emirates frequent flyer program. (If I am understanding correctly)
How can you forget to use the CSR travel credit. Come on! My challenge is the strict Amex travel credit in my gold card. Trying to justify possibly getting an Amex platinum card next year.
How much of a credit history should one have before getting one of these? I only graduated and started working a year ago so just have a year of credit history but no debt or bad credit history in that I've paid off everything on time. The Amex Gold looks pretty good, I just have the fee free BAs Amex card at the moment

Hey Shifu you don't agree that it make sense to have both the Platinum and the CSR although they double up? You get a lot of bang for you buck with the Platinum credits and CSR over the CSP due to the travel credit. I look at $300 of the CSR fee as money in the bank savings. I wish the Platinum would have gotten the Amex Gold point redemption instead of separating the two to squeeze more out of you, but even with that $250 the fee ends up around $30 after the credits. All hail Kind Shifu!!!
Is there a credit card that values loyalty very highly. Because I’m looking to get my first premium card and I plan on sticking with it for a while. Do any of these companies value customer loyalty?
Short answer: None! Amex values spenders. Chase values super high credit scores. In my experience, the only two banks that really “valued” me are BOA and Discover. Rest all are useless when it comes to loyalty. Yeah, you will get some consideration after you are 5+ years with most, but that’s as far as you are gonnna get!
You don't really in a monetary sense. you can either pay a $450 fee plus points or pay no annual fee and get a certain amount of your money back. if you the perks and travelling then rewards are better, but you're not making money
I love to travel but hate to fly cards that give you lounge access and status make travel MUCH better. Amex plat would be that card and has a 100k bonus. That also might be a good option
What if I plan to start traveling a lot later on in life? Would it be a bad idea to accumulate reward points via CSR over the years for free tickets later on in life?
I actually forgot to use my $15 Uber credit in November....that got rolled over to this month. I thought that was cool because now I have $50 Uber credits to use in December.
For the Baggage Insurance Plan for the Amex Platinum card, would redeeming miles for the flight and pay partially with the card also give the baggage insurance?
The 3% (or 6% with Blue Cash Premium) reward for grocery stores applies to Trader Joes and Safeway as their CC category is listed as "Grocery Stores" in the CC merchant system.
I also forgot which one to charge to when buying certain items - Should I consider which one has the better warranty? Or has better price protection? Or return protection? Or lost/replacement protection? Or primary insurance vs secondary insurance? Or road-side service instead of home-side service? Fuck, I need a cheat sheet.
Wow that's really good information, what credit card I need to have for supermarkets and gas pls let me know and just now I have american Express platinum card but I travel every year only tnx.
Unlike Chase which requires you transfer points between accounts, AMEX is all one account by default. No need to transfer points as they all accrue to the same place. Just ensure they are all linked to the same online account.
It's just best to have regular credit cards without any annual fee. Pay the whole bill each month & you'll never have to pay interest on that card, regardless of what the interest is on that card. Some of these regular credit cards do offer reward points just as well.👍
That Dude the CSR is pretty good even if you don’t travel a lot. I’d try to get during the holidays to buy gifts and maybe holiday travel. Other option Amex gold it’s great for collecting points only daily use. Also it’s only a $2000 minimum spend.

buttheadrulesagain amex rep, your statement doesnt make any sense to me. This was even suggested by the rep who signed me up for the platinum. People have different reasons for downgrading or canceling cards. It doesnt always means they are churning or gaming the system. For instance, the business plat premium fee will go up next year. This will become a deal breaker for some people.
@@asahai2 yes, but if somehow we detect you are doing it only for the welcome bonus, it can happen. How we notice? I don't know, I guess we can establish patterns. If I knew who suggested that to you, I'd report him for deceptive sales practice. It is even stated in some disclosures we say to customers. "we may also consider the number of cards opened and closed in consideration for your eligibility for the welcome bonus".
Now, it is very likely that for one time we won´t notice, though, just be aware there's always that danger. Look, right from the terms and conditions in our website: Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

I think I've made half of these mistakes already, including the one at the gas station. After the 5% quarter ends for Freedom, I go back to thinking gas stations would be part of 3% travel for sapphire reserve. Then as I'm pulling away with a full tank, I slap myself when I remember gas isn't considered travel *AND* I use the Citi Costco for 4% back the other 9 months anyway. *DOH...YOU FORGOT AGAIN...IDIOT!*
skylinec83 - fully agree, but since gas isn’t considered as travel for CSR, gas should be on CFU for 1.5%, or another card that’s 2% on everything (Citi Thank You, AmEx something, or CO Spark Business & they have a personal one too that’s 2%), if you don’t mind leaving UR family.. Aside from CF quarterly bonus, I use AmEx Hilton Ascend for gas at 6x points. Don’t forget gas was for 3 quarters this year (twice it was gas straight up and first 3 quarters were all Chase Pay). I usually buy all the gas so use Chase Pay mobile app at Shell till I reach max max for quarter.
This is precisely why any video on youtube that tries to tell you what card is best for you is a joke. Because it's PERSONAL. I will never, ever be interested in the points story of Chase Sapphire Reserve because the centurion lounge and other amex plat benefits are much more important to me. Don't let a random person online convince you how you live.

@@MrFrozenDivine mainly cash, but digital payments are getting popular... I always try to use my AMEX firstly, if they don't accept it I'll just leave.😄
Virtual IT Boy, a lot of us use it because we need to build good credit for lower interest on homes and cars. Well at least that's my reason for it. In addition, some jobs even check your credit history for employment, so for some people it's a necessity that they're pretty much placed on us.
What others have said as well as for security reasons. If my card gets stolen, I can just suspend or cancel it. If there is fraud, the credit card company will take care of it. When it’s their money, they take quick action, if it’s mine they won’t give a shit. I rarely ever use my debit card. Plus, definitely the perks. I have two trips paid in full through the miles/points I built up by my everyday spending on my credit cards.
We use Debit cards a lot, where you get one from the bank. :) And then using wireless payments that way. Credit cards are often not even accepted. My sister just got a credit card as she is going to America for vacation but we had to search for a place that accepts it to activate it!
What kind of question is that? At the age of 21 with a 75,000 credit limit is huge. Its so huge that I'm actually thinking you might be lying. How can you have 75,000 credit limit at the age of 21? Even with a huge income at the age of 21, you would need a good credit history as well.

She uses the CSR almost exclusively. I guess if you’re going to pick just one that’s a decent choice but we miss out on points.
Michael F she’s never gonna get it
Michael F that’s not a bad everyday card though
Cause the 3x dining
And dining is probably a good % of her everyday spend
David haha... she probably won’t get it. And yes dining is a good amount of it. Dining, Gas, and Grocery are her top 3. She’s an AU on my Amex gold but no matter how many times I ask her to, she never uses it at the grocery store.
Michael F that’s just really frustrating I bet
But I wouldn’t get that mad
In the grand scheme of things
Life is short
And the difference in a lifetime difference of 4x and 1x
Isn’t worth fighting over
David oh yeah there’s no fighting over it. We get plenty of points to take amazing vacations for next to nothing each year so there’s nothing to get too mad about.
Great video thanks
CSR for roadside assistance now require you be a certain mile away from your house
Zero2 Q50 - huh, I didn’t know that. I used it once 3 months ago, and was 20 miles from home, but didn’t recall that being relevant. Probably didn’t come up since I met the required distance.
My battery died and call for a jump and they told me the can send someone out and they charge the card but for it to be free i had to be further from my house.
Does the car have to be a rental to use the roadside assistance???
@@washingtonneves2933 was my personal car but they didn't ask that part
How do you prove lower prices to premium hotel or travel cards before booking them?
Awesome video, can’t wait for part two!

Alright, a few off-topic questions:
In the Uk, it states that if you buy an airline ticket through Amex, you get 3 points per £1 spent.
If I wanted business class would I benefit more from:
1) Cash + Miles
2) Upgrade from economy class
3) Buy business class straight from miles
Would really appreciate a response
Cheers
The Emirates card, do you mean a card from their frequent flyer program? If so, then yes you will earn the Amex points for every £ spent on plane tickets with your Amex and you will also get Emirates miles for the miles flown in the Emirates frequent flyer program. (If I am understanding correctly)
I have the platinum business
Then the csr for my personal i need 1 more no fee card … what should I get
How can you forget to use the CSR travel credit.
2 questions did your friend from California have a Chase Freedom NOT Freedom unlimited Freedom? your correct you can redeem cash back from the Sapphires but your correct there travel cards
so which is better after year one down grading or product changing
let's look at some cards if somebody has the Savor Capitol1 4% cash back on entertainment and 4% on dining 2x on grocerys after the first year which is better down grading to the Savor1 product changing over to Venture1 or product changing over to the Quicksilver or canceling the Card?
these are for people who like to shop and go out to eat and go to a spa 6 times a year, travel on vacation 2 times a year
Citi Bank Thank you premiere same scenario for people who like go to Barnes and nobles, Models champs, Bed bath and beyond, Armani Exchange gap family ect, spa 6 times a year and on vacation
after year 1 which is better down grading from the Thank you premiere to the thank you prefeered or product changing from the Thank you premiere
to the double cash card or canceling the Thank you premiere?
Chase from the card I just picked up from sapphire preferred to the Freedom unlimited or to the Freedom as a product change or down grading to the basic sapphire or canceling the Sapphire preferred?
Capitol1 Venture after year 1 down grading to Venture 1 or product changing over to Savor1 or to the Quick silver or canceling the Venture card?
American express Green card after year one are there any downgrade able cards if so with this company is there a small fee? can you product change
if so would it be the blue cash card ( basic 1) or what cards can be product changed over from the Green card?
This was like Dave Ramsey style... I liked it
I have Amex Platinum...should I just add a (free) Gold Amex free to use for grocery shopping, gas, etc?
The free gold card earns points in the same way as the platinum
No buddy you need to get the Gold Amex separate from the free one
What you mean by linking up
Hey Shifu you don't agree that it make sense to have both the Platinum and the CSR although they double up? You get a lot of bang for you buck with the Platinum credits and CSR over the CSP due to the travel credit. I look at $300 of the CSR fee as money in the bank savings. I wish the Platinum would have gotten the Amex Gold point redemption instead of separating the two to squeeze more out of you, but even with that $250 the fee ends up around $30 after the credits.
All hail Kind Shifu!!!
D Knight I agree with you
How does the auto insurance work for the chase sapphire reserve? Does it only wrk for car rentals or your car in general?
Question regarding the "1 Sapphire rule"... Does downgrading to the OLD Sapphire card count?
Is there a credit card that values loyalty very highly. Because I’m looking to get my first premium card and I plan on sticking with it for a while. Do any of these companies value customer loyalty?
Short answer: None! Amex values spenders. Chase values super high credit scores. In my experience, the only two banks that really “valued” me are BOA and Discover. Rest all are useless when it comes to loyalty. Yeah, you will get some consideration after you are 5+ years with most, but that’s as far as you are gonnna get!
The AMEX Uber credit doesn’t start on the 1st of the month! I learned that the hard way! Just got my Uber credit today, the 7th...
Is it related to your anniversary date? If not that's kinda annoying
Can you make a video on why you get more value from a travel card versus a cash back card?
I guess there's several metrics but a video doing a side by side of potential percentage return on expenditure would be nice.
You don't really in a monetary sense. you can either pay a $450 fee plus points or pay no annual fee and get a certain amount of your money back. if you the perks and travelling then rewards are better, but you're not making money
I don't like to travel but I want to start to travel one day. Let's get those cards
Tony Navas start with the chase sapphire preferred. Good card to earn points, travel partners etc., the chase system is solid too
I love to travel but hate to fly cards that give you lounge access and status make travel MUCH better. Amex plat would be that card and has a 100k bonus. That also might be a good option
@@derekjackson1039 I've been looking into those cards lately. I'll probably end up going with one of the Sapphire card

I actually forgot to use my $15 Uber credit in November....that got rolled over to this month. I thought that was cool because now I have $50 Uber credits to use in December.
Is there a high end card that isn't travel?
For the Baggage Insurance Plan for the Amex Platinum card, would redeeming miles for the flight and pay partially with the card also give the baggage insurance?
Does the car have to be a rental to use the roadside assistance???
Washington Neves No
I just got the AMEX platinum thinking its going to be metal , but it's just plastic in the UK 😥

Safeway
Target
Trader joes

Do any of these work with Amex blue cash every day?
The 3% (or 6% with Blue Cash Premium) reward for grocery stores applies to Trader Joes and Safeway as their CC category is listed as "Grocery Stores" in the CC merchant system.

Can you transfer points from a gold card to a platinum card or whatever?
Unlike Chase which requires you transfer points between accounts, AMEX is all one account by default. No need to transfer points as they all accrue to the same place. Just ensure they are all linked to the same online account.
Jack Hake great accurate comment
Does the gold Amex that is linked to the Platinum card qualify for the 4x points on every day spend?
No
The Credit Shifu that was quick and to the point. Lol
Thank you.
Yeah it’s a shame, it would be great if it did.
get an Amex Everyday or Blue Cash Everyday to go along for extra points/cashback on everyday spend.
It's just best to have regular credit cards without any annual fee. Pay the whole bill each month & you'll never have to pay interest on that card, regardless of what the interest is on that card. Some of these regular credit cards do offer reward points just as well.👍
Why do you always puts so many ads

Can we down grade or cancel a card in year 1? Just to get sign up bonus wait 8 months or so and then cancel to avoid year 2 annual fee?
pezdacandyboi just cancel or downgrade 1 month before the annual premium is due.
If you do that, you may be banned from getting any other Welcome Bonuses in the future -Amex rep
buttheadrulesagain amex rep,
your statement doesnt make any sense to me.
We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

yes, particularly in the cold, if the battery isn't that new and I also often forget to un-plug my dashcam, which drains a little bit of power even when the car is off, if left plugged in

*DOH...YOU FORGOT AGAIN...IDIOT!*
skylinec83 I wished it did include gas!
skylinec83 - fully agree, but since gas isn’t considered as travel for CSR, gas should be on CFU for 1.5%, or another card that’s 2% on everything (Citi Thank You, AmEx something, or CO Spark Business & they have a personal one too that’s 2%), if you don’t mind leaving UR family..

I find it interesting that Americans use so much credit cards when in the EU nobody uses it so much. why do Americans use it so much? Just for the perks? :) btw I don't spend a lot of money to so xD
So in EU it's mainly cash? or digital payments
My sister just got a credit card as she is going to America for vacation but we had to search for a place that accepts it to activate it!

that's good at 21. for example I am at about the same limit at 33 (although I haven't aggressively pursued limit increases)
What kind of question is that? At the age of 21 with a 75,000 credit limit is huge. Its so huge that I'm actually thinking you might be lying. How can you have 75,000 credit limit at the age of 21? Even with a huge income at the age of 21, you would need a good credit history as well.
