Diogo Jota: Overlooked by Atlético & Thriving in England (Player Profile, 2020)
This player profile looks at the humble beginnings of Liverpool’s Diogo Jota. His start with Gondomar SC and how that shaped him into the attacker he is today, his time playing for both Paços de Ferreira and FC Porto in Portugal, never making a single appearance for Atletico Madrid and his route to the Premier League via Wolves and the Championship, and Dioga Jota’s Liverpool transfer.

I love your content Adrian. It's intellectual and not sensationalist like many clickbait filled football channels. Keep it up!
Appreciated Kerim.😘
Yeah fr, it's so refreshing
@@RabonaTV love the beard man 🔥🙌🏻
Can he become the best Portuguese player in the Premier league 🤔 well he is at the right club for sure 👍.He already has scored more than bruno & b. Silva?
I used to work in Gondomar and saw him once (about a year ago).
He was barely recognized by the locals. Nowadays he wouldn't go unnoticed...
In a interview yesterday he talked about how things are different when he’s outside & the recognition & love he’s getting from fans.
Always heart warming to see kids from humble background make it to the top. ❤❤
Absolutely!
Ain't that the case for most of them? Sure, some like Patrick Bamford and Kasper Schmeichel grew up wealthy but that's not the norm.
@@CarlHH777 yeah, football is dominated by players from working class backgrounds
@@CarlHH777 so what? U can't appreciate their hardwork and success??
@@RabonaTV ❤❤
I'm one of the few people who watched live on the stadium his senior debut and i saw in that moment that there was a baller... As a Paços de Ferreira supporter it makes me proud to see him excelling at Liverpool
Ps: sorry for my bad English
He's a very good player and playing with better players (no disrespect to Wolves) than his previous club will help him reach new levels of performance as we've already seen..He's absolutely perfect for Klopp's pressing mould.. You guys should be very proud of him ..YNWA
@@simonforrest2522 We couldn't be more proud of him... He's our golden boy
I like you surname. Alves
have you noticed a common thread in Klopp's signings, they're all humble, down-to-earth, thankful, not big on partying, and don't get into any of the off the field crap you see in footballers from arsenal and man.utd and city.
And religious family men
Yeah, that’s why we normally don’t go for marquee mega stars with big egos and bad attitudes. I respect that, it lets us target undervalued players who we can develop into superstars.
Never trust anyone who doesn't like Diogo Jota.
have you noticed a common thread in Klopp's signings, they're ll humble, down-to-earth, thankful, not big on partying, and don't get into any of the off the field crap you see in footballers from arsenal and man.utd and city.
As a Wolves fan I miss Jota, really hope he goes on to greater success and thanks for his time and help to raise Wolves higher
same here, if we still had him we would be in the top 4
Its fine i heard wolves are on for adrien silva for jota replacement cos milan cant except him
Same here... It's so bittersweet, seeing the team without Jota, but knowing his career is blossoming at Liverpool
@C S he did because he wasn't guaranteed a start at Wolves
Jota, Ronaldo and Felix in the euros will be a sight to see... 😍
bernardo silva?
Although he was great last season he got 19 goals and 18 assists, this season he didn’t really do much, haven’t heard much about him to be fair
@Zakki Wakif He can play behind those three
And Fernandes,
They also have felix and bernardo silva
We LFC fans have come to recognize that Klopp does not simply buy talented players. It is clear Klopp also gives significance to a player´s personality, character, motivation, adaptability, team ethic and a humility rare in many top players. So, in short, if Klopp wanted him we knew he would be all round good :) But, he´s even better than we expected and fitted into the squad like he´s been here for years. Not only that but having a team around him like Liverpool seems to lifted his already great skills and desire and watching him you´d think he´s been here forever :) WE LOVE DIOGO :) I´m a little biased cause I live in Potugal and love it!
Wolves fan, I miss jota but I'm so happy for him. Go on lad
The great thing about him is his versatility he can play as an ST, LW, or RW. I believe he will have a fruitful career for both Portugal and Liverpool.
AD744 Very two footed and relentless presser. He is not going to have trouble getting playing time, even if the usual front trio stay in favor. In 2-3 years he may well be the star of the show.
It's crazy to think how Simeone missed out on this kid, especially when you consider his track record with identifying and nurturing young talented attackers. As a follower of Wolves, I was one of few people who felt that Liverpool had pulled off a bargain of a signing with this kid. But I would never have predicted that Klopp would make a Salah-lite out of him
Simeone prefers central attackers. He has an outstanding eye for them. Not necessarily wide attackers.
@@desporto6559 Saul, Gimenez, Godin, Griezmann, Felix, and Correa say otherwise about wasted talent.
Also, everyone isn't going to fit in every system.
It cholo is a talent flunk then Chelsea gets the trophy
@@kevinclaros8847 and yet chelsea won the most trophies in the past ten years in England
Klopp didn’t make nothing, jota is already good and has been good over the years, u should know considering “you were a follower of wolves”.
Man, he and Raul Jimenez understood each perfectly, they made a great duo. Scored many goals together
Athletico ignored both of them
@@hlumelolamfiti1942 big clubs always ignore good players who later find themselves with other teams. I guess not everyone is up for the challenge at all times.
Thank you for including those quotes about his upbringing, what a guy
Im actually from Gondomar and he is adored here
I love This type of videos, so interesting and inspiring. No one makes them like you do.
From Diogo to Diogoal to Diogoat to Diogod....what a player! Messi who? This is the future now old man
I've been watching you for years and love to see your content always improving. Keep at it Adrian!
God bless U man... Been waiting for something like this since. Nice content, keep it up.
I look forward to your videos Adrian They are great!!, keep up the good work
(I obviously watched every second of this but I also knew I didn’t need to watch it to know it was an incredible video. It’s always safe to press the like button before watching here ahahah)
It still seems crazy to me that I barely remember him at Paços or Porto given that his talent was never really hidden.
I’m so excited with the direction his career seems to be taking!
Did you know that you are awesome!!
Great video on one of the best portuguese players!!
Thanks Rodrigo!
Really great video, keep it up!
Merci Peanuts!
Always enjoy watching your new videos pal, very well put together and informed, great stuff 👌
As a Wolves fan I was sad to see him go. He is a class act. Liverpool have got a great player. Hope he keeps playing to this level and wish him best for the future
Brilliant👍🏻 i loved him at Wolves but never knew all this about him, great content👍🏻
Great video! Currently my favourite football UA-camr, keep up with your great work!
Being an Atletico supporter it still gets me mad that he was never given a chance to play for them.
Same.
A wide player......
I dont get mad for this. Simeone just plays another system, and players like Jota or Vietto, were just a waste of money and time. Bring Jota again in Atleti, he would end up the same.
@@armendvojvoda6289 only because Simeone doesn't utilize his wide players to potential. He prefers central, compactness, and tight defensive countering. Juventus was also the same before Pirlo as well
Good video dude
Adrian brilliant insight on d.jota career so far. I have sub keep them coming
Great vid mate.
Hey man, just wanted to let you know you're really good at what you do g. Thoroughly enjoyed this!
Great video!!
Adrian keep up the good work
Thank you Adrien
Portugal is going to be a monster for the next decade. The Golden Generation followed by the likes of Nani, Dani, Pepe complementing the genius of C. Ronaldo gave the Portuguese youth something to strive to be, while CR7's work ethic and dedication instructed the entire squad the benefits of maximizing your utility for the glory of the team. Jota and Felix just two of a long list of the result of this culture.
The future looks brighter than the present. That is something few could have foreseen a decade ago.
Diogo Jota is a great player for Liverpool. Klopp has done it again with Jota like he did with Salah and Mane.
Ha ha
Bro for me you are Diogo Jota of UA-cam,pretty sure you'll smash it one day, always supporting, keep up the good work👑
🤞
This is so beautiful
Big fan of rabona tv especially the L.F.C stuff big love x
thank you for videio
Your story telling is super incredible.
That's very kind of you to say Khetha, thank you.
Good video! Thanks for the insight.. And, Klopp #1!
As an atleti fan, I was mad when we sold him.. I knew the potential he had and hated that the board sold him without even giving him a chance at all. What a team Jota and Felix would've made
Bro a lot of the best players took a step down to take a step up, (Salah, isco, de bruyne, Lukaku, Mata, Reus, Etoo) just because Atletico overlooked him doesn’t mean they were wrong, it was probably a blessing in disguise, he was 19 at the time so moving abroad and spending a couple of years at Wolves was a superb decision, game time which he probably wouldn’t have gotten at Atletico and allowed him to turn into the player he is now
Very happy for diogo
Nice
JOTA!! ❤❤❤
Love your videos Adrian
Thanks Harkirat!

He’s brilliant
Adrian, can you please do a profile on Youssef en nesyri as hes been clinical for Sevilla this season and looks like a very promising talent
Great Video .can you do Yusuf Yazıcı next please
Great video! Small correction though: Pepijn Lijnders briefly coached NEC, a club from Nijmegen, not NAC Breda.
Scored today too 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
This lad, looks the real deal, looks like another good signing from Klopp and his team.Reminds me of Ian Rush, and he didn't do too badly!

Best signing of the season
I'd be scared for my legs right now if I were a liverpool defender

He thrived at Wolves already
This guy is a certfied baller, some how most attacking options Liverpool buys slot right in.
@Mark Morgan None of those players are massive flops or let downs like Markovic or Balotelli were. Also, all those players were MUCH cheaper than Markovic or Balotelli.
@Mark Morgan the majority do. Origi was a starter before his horror injury against Everton. Minamino has been inconsistent but he does actually fit in to the squad when he plays pretty well
@Mark Morgan don't you dare slander lord divock of origi
Banger (Adrian plz reply)
Yo im so sorry about that
Yo Riad!
Rabona TV thanks for replying
Hey Adrian are going to stream any International B games this weekend?
Call me crazy but Diogo Jota reminds me of a Aguero type of player. Low centre of gravity, left foot, right foot, great in front of goal.
Jota has been a smashing success and while I am glad that we now have a number 9 that scores goals (most likely Mané as he plays on the left where Jota does normally). I do feel bad for Bobby Firmino. Firmino has been fantastic, but he's not a goal scorer. sure. he has his moments sometimes, but so does Virgil Van Dijk and he's a defender. I really would like the lineup that Klopp used vs Man City to work. with Firmino playing in the attacking midfield role, Mané or Salah as the number 9 and Jota out on one of the wings, preferably, like I said, Mané plays number 9 and Jota on the left. But If he only wants to play 3 of the 4. I would prefer Jota over Firmino because he shoots goals, not just creates them.
I think Canal 11 just did a similar episode / documentary on Jota and his past
do Francisco Trincão please!!! obrigado
I hope we get another video on Joao Felix. He‘s on fire right now and I just want to learn more about CR7‘s heir.
its mr diogo
I want ruben dias one 😎😎😎
Diogo does not need unlocking. If he can manage to avoid the knocks that sometimes slow him down, noting he has demonstrated his quality with each club that played him, he will continue to grown into his prime years. I understand the depth Wolves had when they made the choice to sell and the financial sense of letting him go, but in football terms they clearly made a mistake. With Nuno managing, there was no limit to how good a healthy Diogo could be. Happily, this still-young player has another great opportunity with a club in a better financial position than his prior clubs. Klopp is, as everyone knows, a great manager, so it is no surprise he sees Jota’s particular brilliance. Diogo should thrive in Liverpool. Though I was sad to see him - like so many other players and managers - leave Porto. A Benfica supporter will understand the feeling. Paços de Ferreira had a real good team that one year - fun to watch - but that couldn’t last. Still, Porto - like the other two big Portuguese clubs - should be able to hold on to more players than they do. (Yes, Diogo was on a loan. Generally, however, Porto should have the financial stability to hold groups together long enough for more team-supporter relationship development.) Right now, the league in Portugal runs as a final-level farm system for big agencies to raid every few months for well-developed product, with a sideline business sheltering older players in between gigs.
Fifa and football are like opposite things now 😭😭
So true. It's just slot machines now.
Fifa before ps3 was the best , the microtransactions ruin the game.
U should do a podcast
Damn, just replace Vitolo with Jota and I'd have more faith that Atleti could win the league this season.
Should diogo jota start in the euro Portugal have many attackers
Great content although I think he comes closer to Mane than Salah in terms of style and numbers prior to Klopp.
Pls make a video on how Portugal's future looks so promising.. They have Bernardo, Bruno, Joao, Jota, Felix, Andre, Rui, Pepe and Ronaldo as well... PS: I know have missed a few key players.. But I think this video will be quite interesting

In training we call him “DioGOAL”
As a fan of the club, it's not NAC Breda Pepijn Lijnders went to coach, but NEC Nijmegen. was not a success unfortunately.
You know who Jota reminds me of! Robbie Fowler....
Is it not too early to make this video at least give him a full season
Jota cant be stoped! He will become Liverpools best ever if he wont switsch to Real Madrid
Adrian, are you an American?
Wow.. Liverpool sporting director...As Liverpool fans I was confused when we sign him..But wat a signing...Hope he continues breaking record
I think it was best for Diogo Jota to not play in athletico Madrid cause look at Jao Felix ,imagine he was on an attacking team like Liverpool, real Madrid or Bayern we would see the best out of him.Jota is an attacking explosive player .He would have wasted his carrier under that brick Simione.
olivier giroud player bio underrated striker
He wasn't overlooked by Atletico, he just didn't fully develop his skills back then and Atleti had no space for him up front in attack since they had a newly-signed Griezmann
You could look at it that way, but they didn't really rate him. Putting the €14 million option (triggered in January of 2018) isn't exactly valuing him very highly.
