    You may want to clean the sanding belt. They make an 8" or 205mm long eraser just for that purpose. They are not expensive and last for years. Clever idea using a
    C-clamp to hold the piece of metal. One of the best DIY designs I have seen. You could also use a threaded rod for the handle rod, which would eliminate the need to tap and thread a stainless steel rod which can be expensive to buy. Every other component is very accessible and fairly cheap. Nicely done!! I may have to make one myself. Where did you find the small sharpening stones?

    There is a great idea with the ball joint! But the rest is overcomplicated for me, there is more simplier way to do some of this things. Thanks anyway!

      Seriously? You can use the design, just modify it if you do not have metalworking equipment. Use a threaded rod and wooded clamps to hold the stones instead of steel. I don't see what is complicated about it.

    I'm not sure why the whetstone has to be glued to the aluminum plate?
    Two grinding surface reduced to one! The stone at this thickness should not bend, just clamming should be enough.

    It’s just a bunch of tedious cutting, tapping and grinding unless you give people some idea of what the hell your building…
    Think about the show “how it’s made”
    They always tell you what it is before going through the process of how it’s made.

    This cannot be called DIY as most of us dont have access to all these tools.

    • @Bradrick_Larney_Sr
      @Bradrick_Larney_Sr 2 роки тому

      Well, he "did it himself". You don't need access to all the tools he has to make this, such as the lathe, belt sander etc. It's called improvise. He showed us the way giving us the concept, and now it's up to us to be creative on how to "DIY". Most people looking up videos like these have a drill, a saw to cut wood, a sander and some sort of way to clamp something down. I don't own a lathe or half the tools he owns but I find ways to make what I have work. For example, don't have a lathe, use your drill as a lathe. Don't have an angle grinder, buy a backing plate for your drill with the correct sand paper and use your drill. It may take longer but it'll do the job. Either way, this video was a good presentation on how to make a cool knife sharpener "DIY" STYLE.
