- These files were downloaded from the IBM website many moons ago. The downloads consist of many product demos featured are self-executing EXE's that make use of Macromedia's Flash. The Flash demos consist of product showcasing of various IBM products like the ThinkPad notebooks, ThinkCentre desktops, their mobile workstations, wireless technologies, and other products as well.
The IBM Visual Tours make use of Shockwave, and thus, will only work correctly on period appropriate browsers that have the Macromedia Shockwave extension installed. Thus, the only browser that I've been able to run the Visual Tours correctly on is the Mozilla Suite from 1999/2000 on Windows ME. I can make the very safe assumption that the Visual Tours will not work on modern web-browsers. On a WinME/XP virtual machine, I tried to run them on both the period correct versions of both IE and Netscape to no avail. I believe that it has to do something with the lack of the Shockwave extension for those setups. If they were installed, then the Visual Tours would have probably worked on those browsers as well.
The Visual Tours are a cool demo in that one is presented with a very simple 3D model of the IBM system (ThinkCentre and NetVista Model M) that could be rotated, and in some sections, opened up as if you're opening up a PC virtually. Of course, the demos feature information on the various IBM systems at the time. These demos were released about a few years before Lenovo's acquisition of the IBM Personal Computer Division
Also included are various IBM screensavers and Windows theme installers that were also downloaded from the IBM website many moons ago as well. There is both a ThinkPad and ThinkCentre theme as well, as well as a general Think theme as well. The IBM ThinkPad screensaver is a pictorial presentation highlighting the various milestones of the ThinkPad series of notebooks. Also included is the ThinkCentre screensaver, which shows as pictures and artistic illustrations of the ThinkCentre family of desktop PC's. Very interesting downloads indeed.
The demos can be found here:
