I am a 66 yr old quilter who was diagnosed with cancer in April 2024. I decided that I needed something more than sewing to take my mind off what was going on inside my body. So I decided to take up woodworking. It has been quite the learning curve trolling through videos learning about different timbers, tools and techniques etc. Getting the right tools for the job has been costly but worth it. I recently bought the Dewalt 7491 table saw and had never used a table saw in my life. Your video was so simplistic and easy to understand and I found it really informative. I have set it up with the splitter/anti kick back blade so I can rip cut some plywood to make a table for the table saw. Thank you so much for sharing you experience and knowledge to the novices. Regards Jackie
Hi Jackie, I'm really sorry to hear about your cancer. I hope it's in the early stages and you make a full recovery. I love my table saw and I'm sure you will to. Good luck and you should share your builds on UA-cam.
I just bought this saw today and we got the stand set up on it. The instruction manual is horrible. The graphics are terrible. We managed to get through it and then I thought I would like to watch a video on features, etc. I NEVER would have found the antikickback attachment. NEVER. Now I'm looking for other videos you have done to see what else I can learn about this saw. VERY well done, great job making sure to show where and how things come one and off this bad boy. THANK YOU!!
I love your "no nonsense" easy going approach. Very clear presentation and you answered a question that the customer service person at dewalt could not answer. That question was concerning the kickback device. I had actually found it but unscrewed the mounting handle the kickback plate was attached to!!! I have been so so frustrated trying to figure it out even sent a picture to dewalt and the customer service person actually referred me to a service center. . . Thanks very much for the clarification.
I agree. Dewalt should pay you or give you a commission. Your explanations and video are so much more helpful than Dewalt's reasonably useless instructions. At a minimum, Dewalt technical/instruction writers should contact you for assistance. Thank you. Proper attachment of the anti-kickback assembly is critical and Dewalt's instructions are a miserable failure. Thank you again - safety is paramount; I wish Dewalt's writers were as capable as their engineers (and you)!
OMG I spent the past few days trying to find out how to get those Pawls off from underneath the saw. You earned a subscription from me just for ending the madness I was going through lol. The manual just said "See Storage" and I couldn't find it. Thank you!
So many other videos don't even mention the kickback device installation and they probably don't even know its hiding under there. Thanks for clear explanation.
Ditto all the previous comments! You did an awesome job describing how to find and install the anti-kickback and blade guard parts in a manner that a non-technical person like myself could follow. I love the DeWalt products, but I would have saved a lot of time if they inserted a link to your video in the instruction manual. Thanks again for providing the instructional video.
This saw is awesome. The manual, not so much. I have had the saw over two years and didn't know about the kickback feature either! Thanks, great video!
Exceptional ! The manual is terrible on the installation of the anti kickback device. Hard to believe DeWalt left themselves open with such a vague crucial part of the saw set up. Thank you very much.
Wow, I would have never figured this out. The book that came with the saw does not mention how to remove the anti-kickback mechanism. Thank you for this info.
Thankyou for this video, this does a service to everyone that's trying to follow the instructions and can't figure this out. You did a great job explaining it, and I agree with the others, Dewalt should be paying you for this one :)
Congratulations for the explanations, I think it is impossible not to understand what you have described with a unique simplicity, I just bought the saw bench DWE7485 QS (SMALLER VERSION OF YOURS) and unfortunately for my misfortune adjusted a bit at random (strangely) but with your directions are perfectly in order, thank you, a greeting from Italy.
Awesome to have found this video. I just commented on the set-up video that I was wondering about how to get off the kick-back assembly I found stored underneath. Great info!
@@TheWoodHaven Now if I could just get it stay in....it snaps in when I depress the button, but then it falls off after a foot or two of running the lumber through. Doesn't hold.
Hey Rick, good to hear from you. Yeah, that bag really helped me with my planer. It's just OK with the table saw, but works great with the planer. Let me know when you start your UA-cam channel. You need to share your woodworking talent.
I don’t use these, but 1 time I wished I did. A piece of 3/4” Plywood 14” squired caught the blade and it hit me in the wrist and chest. It knocked the wind out of me by and scared the crap of me. I had to a 1 hour time out afterwards.
Hey I like your videos and I just bought this saw. I am still trying to figure why you would ever use this saw without the blade guard? I literally just had a friend take off his thumb with a table saw because he did not have a blade guard turned around into it while grabbing a piece of wood.
Hi, I have watched several of your videos, and I keep coming back for more - really amazing stuff!. Now, regarding this 'anti kickback' add-on component - I have tried it a few times and have noticed that it actually scores the wood a little on its way out - perhaps the springs are too strong? Anyone else have the same issue? Thank you.
I just got this saw this morning. For the life of me, I could not figure this out since there was no indicator and the instruction manual was no help - NO HELP. So... UA-cam... cuz of course. Thanks!
This may be a dumb question but, when do you use the riving knife and when do you use the blade guard? Can i just use the blade guard with the anti kickback for everything?
Not a dumb question. If you use the bladeguard, it has a built-in riving knife, so yes you can. The riving knife is only if you are not using the blade guard.
You done great explaining and identifying those pesky little hidden treasures. Easily understood each of your points. Can’t hardly wait till dawn to assault my Dewalt.
What if I just need to rip a 2" piece off of a piece of plywood? Do I have to remove the blade guard for that (replacing it with the riving knife temporarily)? Sorry for the newbie question.
You don't need to remove the blade guard, but you will have to use the fence on the 2" side of the plywood. The fence will not extend far enough to use on the 46" side.
I’m having an issue with my kickback assembly catching on the rear of the throat plate when I raise and lower the blade. I’ve tried adjusting the screws in the throat plate but it still seems to do it.
Yeah, I've been hearing about issues of the table not being flat, the fence is out of alignment, etc. I didn't have any of these issues with mine. It has been a great saw.
Hello, i have a DW749IRS table saw and after installing the anti-kickback assembly on the blade guard attachment, for some reason the spikes only on the left side of the plate are getting caught and stuck on the throat plate when i raise and lower the blade. I have adjusted the throat plate number times and have checked to make sure the throat plate is not bent. There is a groove on this particular throat plate made by Dewalt in which the spikes from the anti-kickback assembly is getting caught on. Please help i cannot find a solution anywhere and have found no one else who has had this issue on the entire internet. P.S it IS installed correctly, and i called a Dewalt service station and they just said to bring it in, but i wanna fix it myself b/c the drive is just way to far. HELP from ANYONE is welcome. Thanks

Seriously... and i thought i had it all figured out!
Thanks for this, very useful. I couldn't work out how to get the anti-kickback device out from underneath.

Just couldn't find it. Thanks. And thanks for the clear camera work. Makes it super easy to follow.
😮 … Thank you so much! The instructions for the Anti Kickback are unbelievably bad! And like so many things, it’s so simple once someone shows you.

I feel so lucky to have found this video. Thank you. Dewalt's manual is USELESS, they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Wow, I would have never figured this out. The book that came with the saw does not mention how to remove the anti-kickback mechanism. Thank you for this info.
Much thanks. I was not even sure what to do. As others have noted, the manual should have been proofed by someone who has never assembled this saw.
Thank you! About to use my table saw for the first time! Would never have figured out how to put kickback pawl on.
I think you will enjoy that saw. It's a really nice one.

Thanks Geek Toolkit. I guarantee Dewalt is not paying me.
Thanks! I honestly didn't know there was an anti-kickback for this saw!
Yeah, DeWALT does an amazingly poor job of highlighting and instructing on the anti-kickback tool.
Thank you. I recently purchased this saw and looking forward to working with it!
🎉you saved me so much time. I was literally down to these fine details of getting my saw setup and ready to use safely. Thank you so much. John
Yeah, that one was tricky. Took me a while to find it.
gave it a like and a sub. Thank you for showing the internet. you showed me many useful things and saved me time.
No, thank you Dini.

I have never seen a tradesman use this stuff. Its more dangerous trying to cut wood with this stuff on. Silly Government regulations
