- Rackham is a shit hole of a golf course. Everyone in the area knows it, but that doesn't mean anyone really despises it. It's local, it's cheap and it's wide open off the tee. Great for beginners and those looking to have a nice slow round. If an architect nut can make it through the modified front 9 the course also offers 9 holes of Donal Ross original design. Is it maintained. No. But once upon a time Donald Ross plotted out this routing right next to the Detroit Zoo. Play here enough times and you might spot a giraffe checking you out as you hack your way down the 15th fairway.
Not every course can be premiere and Rackham is like the scrappy guy who comes off the bench and knows his role. It's valuable for what it is and is worth a stop at least once a summer, but avoid the rainy seasons cause this course holds water like no other.

I know this was a 2023 round but when I played Rackham early 2024 I think March the course was in significantly worse shape, but that's spring golf. Video makes the course look better than it is even though its soaked
You’re spot on. From playing the course 5-6 years ago til now it’s gotten so bad. Haven’t played this year yet, but I’m sure it’s still beat to shit
