  • The Cubs are officially in last place in the NL Central after dropping their third consecutive game to the Reds by the score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Great American Ballpark. The Cubs now sit at 31-34 on the season, 7-15 vs the NL Central and 12-14 in one-run games on the season, simply not good enough.
Anthony Pasquale hosts the show, and talks about the Cubs' disappointing stretch, and how it may be indicative of the Cubs' plans at the trade deadline. Anthony gets heated talking about Patrick Wisdom in the leadoff spot, as the Cubs sit on their hands with Seiya Suzuki and Nico Hoerner banged up.
Anthony also offered some options of players that could come up to the big leagues should those players' need IL time: Brennan Davis, Alexander Canario, Owen Caissie, Miles Mastrobuoni and Luis Vazquez.
PLus, Jordan Wicks is back -- and he pitched well out of the bullpen on Saturday.
    Cubs at Reds 12:40 CT
Shōta Imanaga (5-1, 1.88 ERA) vs Frankie Montas (3-4, 4.00 ERA)

You can’t switch to seller yet because they’re only a game out of first in the wild card. It’s not too late to turn it around with the right pieces.

Maybe the Cubs could trade Morel at trade deadline and get some pieces the Cubs need, like a catcher and some young arms. Maybe do the same with Wesneski.

We’re a piece or 10 away. A few reliable pen arms that can record 3 outs before allowing a run in relief, a catcher who can hit and play defense, a third baseman who can field routine grounders, 8 more upgrades in our lineup and cross our fingers the Cardinals Reds and Pirates turn back the clock to 2023 and the Brewers remember they were supposed to regress with the absence of Counsell.
Then we’ll be back in business.

All the fault of little jed hoyer. He was so angry about being overshadowed by a real leader and a real man that he had to get rid of him. He didn't care about our history and traditions, or even what our guys did for us in 2016. He is only capable of thinking about what would help himself personally. We were on our way back to the top, and fast!!! Rossy is the best young Manager in baseball and every single player is better under his LEADERSHIP. This would easily be a first place team with our real leader in charge. Our run was just starting. Curse of Cutthroat jed can easily be fixed. Our leader is at home watching since the timing with wich he was robbed and embarrassed. hoyer shouldn't even be allowed in restaurants on the north side. Not one more cent from me!!!

This team needs to be smashed into a thousand pieces and the best young prospects need to be brought up and allowed to play full-time. Bench, trade, or release the veterans, which means eating a lot of salary. There has to be a good 60 to 75 percent turnover between the 2024 and 2025 teams. 2 of the 5 starting pitchers are already young prospects in Brown and Assad, so that's a good start. Let's make it 3 out of 5 plus Steele and Imanaga. I assume that pitcher will be Horton. As for position players, Morel, Busch, Crow-Armstrong, and Amaya (needs to improve his defense and game calling) should be holdovers and considered the players to build around. So 5 other starters need to be determined from prospects. A few of the veterans can stick around as backups and bench players-- Hoerner, Suzuki, and Happ or Tauchman would be my picks. The bullpen needs to be gutted and stocked with young arms. Leiter, Wicks, and Wesneski or Merryweather can be holdovers.

The Cubs gotta get rolling I didn't sign up to be a Mets like fan this year and get my heart broken again Mick... That's exactly who the Cubs are looking like the Mets sloppy defensive can't score enough runs and pitching is good usually or at least quality but it doesn't matter due to not being able to score runs.... If the Cubs don't turn this around soon I got the Orioles for the Post Season 💪🏼 If the Cubs don't do anything this year I'm going Oriels all the way and on my time I'll give them until the homestand if they are still loosing the season is a wash in my eyes... Don't we have bats ready what about Luis Vasquez?? Brennen Davis? Someone to help spark the offense

I'm protesting until hoyer is gone. I doubt they'll fix his mistakes, but I cancelled everything the day he backstabbed Rossy for the Brewers manager. There was no chance that would improve a team that was on an incredible path to the top. I used to fly myself and friends/family to Chicago every year for games and paid for several team subscriptions. I will never spend one single penny on this honorless loser who destroyed our culture. The family atmosphere is gone and the positivity is gone. Now they all know they will be thrown aside if the team thinks it can make an extra dollar. No talent will sign. Belli tried not to but eventually made the reluctant choice to return. Curse of Cutthroat jed can only be fixed by his termination and a public apology and rehiring of our leader.

You can talk about selling but who is going to take any of our everyday players or relievers? We won't get much for any of them. I'm also tired of hearing about last year's turnaround. There will be no turnaround as long as the offense is broken, the defense sucks, and the bullpen can't get anyone out. Even if the offense improves the defense and bullpen will still find ways to lose. As for analytics, I don't care about them. I'd play the guys who give me the best chance to win--period.

Funny everyone says that "I would rather have this rookie or that rookie" but there stats are against other minor league pitching. these at bats would be against MAJIOR league pitching. Remember how overwhelmed Mick's "Savior" PCA looked last year (O for the season). And he was "an accomplished" hitter.
The whole, at least it isn't so and so, would that make up for beg tied in last place? I doubt it. I am sure the fans here would still complain. I am also sure the host would make excused for the rookies (because everyone knows these rookies are better then the majors leaguers, right Mick?

    • @cubsbaseballchannel
      @cubsbaseballchannel  Місяць тому +1

Not saying we agree, but the Cubs love the analytics. Bote started yesterday because a lefty was in the mound - so the Cubs feel the hits were because they put him in a place to succeed. Hes in the bench today because a righty is on the mound. Counsell loves the L/R splits, which is why sometimes guys are on the bench after a big game.

Starting pitching isn't the problem. Weak contact, first pitch swinging, rally killers are. You can't keep leaving men in scoring position. You can't always expect to get something going with two outs. When one bat gets cold one of the other millionaires MUST step up!

Now that we have to eat Counsell, what I Would do if I was one of the Ricketts?
    1) Fire Hoyer. Too arrogant, incapable of making good trades, since is not liked by other gen. managers, but Royals and Padres (both he got fleeced by).
    2) Since we have to swallow Counsel, fire ALL coaches, let him choose which to keep if any, or bring from outside. Let him choose. If there is a chance to bring back Ross in any capable form (Assistant Manager, Coach, Office, whtaever. Pay him more if we have to, just to end with that Karma.
    3) Sell, sell, sell at the treadline for whoever there is, for anything we can get (for PTBN if needed). Only keep PCA, Starting Pitchers Lineup, a couple of bullpen arms, Tauchman as a veteran cheap OF and Nico as utility IF as Zobrist. Bring all the kids to see which are the ones who can get it done at MLB. For the rest of the team, get whoever or whatever other teams may give us. Then get FA as needed.
    4) DFA those that are in their last year contract (Hendricks, Bote).

The Cubs were on fire a big part of last year and had the best clubhouse and team vibe in all of baseball. We were at the beginning of a big run that would have been years long.
Then they took a crap on our culture, honor and history when they decided to embarrass and fire our team hero and great young Manager. Our ownership wanted to cheat with the neighbors wife while being clueless to what they had. hoyer has no understanding of baseball, leadership or even what it means to be a human being. We were where we needed to be and ahead of everyone else's schedule. He has cursed the team and the only solution is his removal and a huge apology to our players, fans and our real leader, David Ross.

Everything took the step back that it clearly would, when they backstabbed our leader. Rossy the CATCHER and real LEADER, who understood this team and baseball culture, was the reason this team was overperforming. Every single player has been forced to regress with the current leadership void. This was all clear to many thinking people, from the moment the coop occurred. Counsell is making too many decisions like a GM and not like an in game manager. Willie Harris is a horrible 3rd base coach. He leads the league in runners being thrown out at home plate in the last 3 years. If Ricketts did shut down anymore spending Jed's hands are tied until off season when Smyly, Hendricks, Bote, Mancini, Gomes and other contracts come off the books. After the Brewers traded their ace wnd lost Counsell they havent missed a beat. Maybe he is over rated? Maybe Ross was a better manager than we thought. Wisdom leading off is horrible! Missing Joe Madden these days….baseball needs some instinct not just analytics everything! It’s boring and doesn’t work. Jed has tanked this team with endless bad decisions and lack of decisions. Embarrassing.
