To be honest, an AMD A-series APU’s was to compete with Intel’s Celeron and Atom series processors. They were ‘budget’ systems with integrated Radeon IGPU (Integrated Graphics Processing Unit) as an edge over the then Celeron’s as Intel didn’t really go into the integrated GPU’s at the time. When Intel did start having IGPU’s, they used their own hardware. But most of the time, apart from office and low-budget systems, systems always built with a GPU add-on, bypassing the IGPU’s anyway. The system you got is still usable for general use, very low-end gaming and/or retro-gaming machines.
I could be wrong, but I suspect that your 'Frankenstein' graphics card had an issue was because I noticed that you moved your HDMI cable AFTER you had powered the system on. In my experience, I have always had trouble with HDMI cables if I move them after the PC is powered on. It generally needs to be plugged in BEFORE the power is turned on to work properly.
i wouldnt discount actual proper AMD chips A6, A8 and A10 where budget cpu's with intergrated graphics, not intended for hardcore gamers. AMD Phenom II 940 BE, AMD Phenom II 1090T, AMD FX8350 and AMD FX9590 where all good solid CPU's.
Took the words right out of my mouth. I had the FX-8350 and it kinda bottlenecked my 2060 super. Before that it would run the hell out of my 760. I'm thinking if I were to pick a sweet spot for the gpu to best pair with the Fx-8350 would be a 1070.
I have a couple of them also and they're fine for what they can do. I don't play AAA games after 2010 anyway because I refuse to subscribe to the "games as a service" concept and I am not into online multiplayer gaming - I'd rather get my real friends over for beer, pizza or BBQ and a LAN party two or three times a year. I also just run Linux (no Windows since Windows 7) so I can play all of the games I want to through WINE on older hardware.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 you should give Proton a try, you might have a better experience than with WINE. Valve is helping develop it for Steam OS but it can be used on pretty much any modern Linux distro
An A10-9700 won't fit in that board. The A10-9700 is a socket AM4 CPU and that board is socket FM2+. The A10-7800 is one of the fastest CPUs for that socket. You could try to find an AMD pro A10-8850B, but that is only about another 10-15% faster.
There is something wrong!! Driver issues maybe or bios not set up correctly maybe!! The bulldozer CPU is at 98% in cyberpunk and fortnight and its definitely able to load up the GPU to 95% or more so it capable of pushing the GPU to the 98 to 100% but it keeps dropping from 98% utilisation to 0% and jumps up and down and up and down.. normally it won't load the GPU to a higher value and stick solid at 20 or 30% GPU while the CPU is pegged to 100% but thats not what's happening its keeping a consistent CPU load of 98% and the GPU is dancing around from 0% (which regardless of the CPU should not even get to 0%) but it loads the GPU to 98% so its likely a driver or something else. Because if the cpu could not load the GPU that high it would still have a stable low figure even if it was only like 2% it should not be jumping around..
12 GB of RAM? A 4 GB and an 8GB DIMM, NOT running in dual channel mode there. Two of the same capacity and speed would help some though, dual channel mode is better any day of the week.
@@EvilTurkeySlices They both must be of matching capacities, IE the same memory size to get full bandwidth performance. Apparently different capacity DIMMs will put you in what Intel calls FLEX mode if the system board, CPU and BIOS supports it. More RAM is better than less, that's good with Windows 10. It's just nice to get any extra performance you can.
That 580 is making me cry a little. I have my old rx 580 gts and its so pretty im almost feeling obligated to send it to ya out of pity, but i love a good resourceful move so touche!
Might scrape a bit more performance with balanced RAM, not sure if it can flex like Intel or if it's forced to 100% single channel. Not that much more CPU to put on a FM2+ They didn't make 8 "core" for that platform
This motherboard cannot be used with FX cpu or any AM3+ ones, it has FM2+ socket, even best quad core cpu (most cores that ever came out for the platform) for FM2+ is as slow as i3 3220 if not worse. Replace the A_series cpu with something else. You don't get the full 16x lanes on the pcie bus with APU cpu's. Maybe a Quad Athlon or something with no integrated graphics.
Ironically AMD , A6, A8, and A10 are all based on the XBOX360 architecture. Originally the first set of xbox 360's that got the red ring of death had an IBM power PC 3 core 3 thread power PC CPU. The cpu's were causing the red ring of death as it would warp the boards and the solder balls would crack and disconnect.... So in 2008 to 2010 AMD under a NDA hush agreement with microsoft redesigned the CPU and GPU all in one for the APU found in the corona mother boards at 40nm, versus teh older CPU and GPU 90nm chipsets. The reason why AMD makes the best APU's (CPU/GPU) all in one is because of that relationship with microsoft and the 360. The final versions of the xbox 360 were the most efficient, long lasting and best version of the xbox 360. If you put these AMD chipsets to operate under linux/FAT32 it will free up about 25% of the CPU computation, but its operating as expected in windows.
The A series was never meant to be a bruiser of a cpu, they were for basic home and office pc's. They could just get someone to be able to play some games until they dropped in a dedicated GPU. try an FX CPU from back then with a good GPU and then you'll see. I ran an FX-8350 on AM3+ until last year and I now have a 5900X.
I pulled the board out of an HP Pavilion 500-590 to temporarily replace my motherboard that bit the dust. The bios update allowed higher end cpu's up to a 4790T (motherboard's limitations is 85 watts) to be used and the ability to turn off the annoying fan error it gives if a fan is unplugged. Totally worth the update. Went from 8.1 to Windows 10 and it did something weird to the bios, now the fan error is back without the ability to disable it, with or without the drive even being plugged in. Pretty weird issue. As for your graphics card problem, I believe it has to do with the card's device ID and updating the bios allows it to "see" it.
Most important upgrade you want to do to this setup is to make sure that it's memory are workin in dual channel. And i'm sure 8GB cannot be bind with 4GB as DUAL. And remember IPA is your friend. Cheers.
