- This video demonstrates "wallrunning" with objects (also known as thingrunning) as well as the real accuracy (and missing compat option) of ZDoom's compatibility options. You will need the 'turbo' command to beat this map "legitimately" in ZDoom.

When jumping becomes a viable option
Pretty sure you can do this in ZDaemon or Zandronum, these engines have far more vanilla compatibility for OS deathmatch/duels, including bugs like this one. /slow/

this is interesting. I would love to see more vids showing some of the downsides or imperfections with playing on modern sourceports. It may even help the devs of those sourceports improve their software.
Internet Explorer-tier reply I know, but I already got some hate for criticizing certain areas of GZDoom and was labelled a mindless purist. Some braver soul other than me may perhaps take charge in showing imperfections in all source ports regarding faithfulness to the original game, even criticizing PrBoom+.
@@UndeadRyker I'm on your side, man. It's been three years, and GZDoom still hasn't perfected their compatibility settings. Then again, Graf sees anything old as unnecessary, and will get rid of it whenever he has the urge to do so...

The speed you can get! Without thingrunning you couldn't even get halfway to the exit. I know thingrunning and wallrunning makes you crazy fast, but I didn't realise how much faster it makes you.

Timothy Brown Nope, have you seen the beginning of the video and the description? The devs won’t add it and it’s currently impossible because GZDoom’s physics are drastically different from Doom. In the video I was playing in the Doom (strict) mode which is apparently the closest thing to how Doom worked you can get in GZDoom.
@@UndeadRyker That is something that should be addressed in the forums. In the meantime, my recommendation would be play it with jumping and walking on top of the floating objects.
And this is why I use gzdoom.

This is thingrunning which is different than wallrunning, although I have heard that Zandro can replicate this? I might be wrong.
Maybe the map is only created to beat at lower difficulty levels. Or there should be a very tricky trick, if its not allowed to jump. The only things that will make sense for me, is if it possible to walk on sprites. I cant see if it possible to walk up on the first platform, and then up on the demon, and then be very lucky to keep an angle in front of the demon so it walk over the blood, and then walk from the demon and up to the lava sprites.

How exactly did you get vanilla doom demos working in zdoom/gzdoom?
Exactly. This smells of scum purist.
I was just messing around with GZDoom demos. These were demos recorded by me and I was seeing how GZDoom would handle similar looking demos on the title screen in a separate custom WAD by me. I think since then I've deleted these files but they aren't hard to do. I was just feeling experimental back then lol

No, unfortunately. I made a thread a while back on the ZDoom forums and Graf Zahl (I consider him the main coder of the GZDoom sourceport today) explained that the physics and inter-workings of GZDoom is so different from how original Doom worked so it may not be worth the effort.

The video is self explanatory, but you'll need to do two extra steps.
1.) Open the autoexec.cfg and change gl_boom "false" to gl_bloom "true"
2.) Add PalPlus so it's autoloaded with the rest of the files.

I just downloaded palplus. Had no idea it existed. I use PerKristians excellent sound replacements and the sprite fixing project. (Though obviously I am not using them for my Ultimate Doom playthrough, wanted to keep that reasonably vanilla.) Palplus is amazing, though it does make things darker, had to crank the brightness, but love the look of it.

Because gzdoom is a better version of it, with opengl support

well chocolate doom or strawberry doom or crispy doom or vanilla doom which uses dos wins this round we haven't tried doom95 yet but zdoom and gzdoom and modern sourceport engines lose. they get shit of nothingness. why because it is unbeatable and hard as fucking ballsacks and cooches..

So what's the point, exactly? Is it criticism of ZDoom? 'Cause slowing down the player isn't a big deal. He already goes pretty damn fast as it is.
The point was that maps that use glitches like that isn't possible in ZDoom (thus rendering the map unbeatable) even if you use the Doom (strict) compatibility preset. ZDoom changes so much about Doom logic and behavior that if you're looking to play Doom as close to vanilla as possible, then look elsewhere, lol.
