  • Hey guys!
This is just a simple candid walk-around video of the now abandoned Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City.
It has been boarded up for about a year now with no known plans for its future.
Time will tell what happens to this rapidly deteriorating colossus.
Just another victim of the dead mall trend in the U.S. today.
    Thanks for checking it out!

I am nearly overwhelmed with grief watching this. I'm an old man now. I used to go there from lawton to shop for gifts for my kids after my wife left me. I always felt good after a trip there because the place was so upbeat and full of life. Pitiful what it has become. Kind of a metaphor for U.S.A.. . . Pitiful what it has become.

I loved this mall and worked there a bit in my teens. I wonder if there's some sort of historian out there who has collected a lot of photos and videos of the mall in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I'd love to just kind of take a trip back.

R.I.P. Crossroads Mall. I’ve been going there multiple times ever since I was very small. I remember lots of things that I’ve done while being there: shopping at Dillard’s, riding the carousel, eating at Chinex and Hot Spot Pizza, and more.
It’s September 2019 now and the building is still standing, and I even heard rumors that the mall might come back.
Until then, it’s basically one of the many abandoned malls across America. I now go to Sooner and Penn Square, but those two places are just not the same...

It's so sad to see the mall dead now. But I've been thinking. Has anybody ever thought about buying and converting the old shops into posh apartments? With some small convenient stores and restaurants sprinkled hear and there? Just wishful thinking I guess.

I lived in OKC area most of the 00's/2010's it was a great mall back then, TONS and TONS of people shopped there !!. My favorite was the LARGE hobby shop on the first floor. Sadly as mentioned lots of gang crime started happening there and with online shopping and fact that It's in a BAD area of OKC sealed its fate forever :/ RIP Crossroads Mall

I had a good friend that ran the heating and air-conditioning of the mall. He worked alone and often invited me to "...come to work...." Which meant that he was bored and wanted me to come and share a joint with him on the roof. He gave me of a grand tour of the HVAC units around the facility as well as a tour of the roof. He actually had the key to the roof access doors. We went all over the roof of the mall by walking on the gutter system. The gutters were made of steel and wound all of the roof. But the highlight of the excursion was going to the very peak of the triangler glass roof peak. My friend & I had just finished a joint and I went to the very top of the glass roof peak and putting the roach in between two pieces of the metal at the peak.

I moved away from OKC right before they shut it down for good, so thank you for posting these videos, its nice to be able to get one last look before its gone. I was born in the late 90s and only have a few memories of the mall before it really started to flounder, so it was cool to hear some of the things you remembered being there that may have been before my time.

    What killed Crossroads Mall?

    • @VolkswagenNut1969
      @VolkswagenNut1969  5 років тому +3

      Hi JM!
The short answer is Time and Demographics.
Long answer: The old malls all across the country are dying out rapidly due to internet shopping and corner strip malls and discount big box stores. These massive old buildings are starting to need millions of dollars in maintenance and repairs, yet are falling in traffic and income due to the above.
Also, the Crossroads area (and this can be applied to many other older malls) was a fresh new suburban growth area in the 1970s but went downhill over the years and fell victim to rising crime and gang activity sadly.
Thanks for checking out the video! :)

      It’s not a slip.
      Read up on your dictionary:
Definition of hulk (Entry 1 of 2)
      1a : a heavy clumsy ship
b(1) : the body of an old ship unfit for service
      (2) : a ship used as a prison -usually used in plural
every prisoner sent to the hulks

c : an abandoned wreck or shell (as of a building or automobile)
