    The Center Drive Multi-tool looks like a good tool. I started out with Gerber multi-tools back in the 90's, and they're still good tools for EDC in a more urban setting. One hand opening, replaceable cutter blades, spring loaded pliers and the center drive screwdriver of course, I could see me using one at home & around town. When it comes to multi-tools for outdoor/survival/bushcraft/hunting use, however, Leatherman is still the king. The Leatherman Surge, Charge (AL & TTi), Wave & Juice Xe6 are still the only multi-tools on the market that have all, or close to all (need an awl on the Charge & Wave!), of the tools that I consider necessary for the perfect outdoor multi-tool, and I actually do use all of the them from time to time.

    That was awesome... Gerber's Strong Arm was the first Gerber that I actually kept and deploy in my kits. These arrivals in 2017 will definitely have me making purchase consideration for their USA made products. Definitely going to let my family know that the Gerber Centerdrive is "expected" with my birthday card in March!!!!

    I'm really digging the center drive. Since I work in the Hvac industry I can carry 1/4 through 3/8in nut driver bits that with work with that tool to get me out of a bind

    • @saprissa9
      @saprissa9 7 років тому

      JonesHvac did you go to school for HVAC? I was wondering if a guy with no experience before taking classes can be a successful HVAC tradesman.

    • @Jeepjones85
      @Jeepjones85 7 років тому +1

      saprissa9 I learned under a very seasoned technician and and about a year later I went to school which made it easier for me because I already had an idea of how Hvac systems worked. I've been doing this type of work since 2003, and I absolutely love this work wouldn't trade it for anything. I would say if you enjoy working and trouble shooting Go for it. This field will always be in demand and you can just about go anywhere and find a job! There are also some Great UA-camrs that really know there stuff I'd watch if I was you like Steven Lavimoniere, T &N services, Fritz Rochester just to name a few. I find myself watching these guys and learning better ways and techniques for working on equipment. Anyway best of luck

    Man I was really hoping for Gerber to release a new LMF knife like the LMF 3 with a full tang version without the anti shock resistant handle. I know the Strongarm is huge but it sure would be nice to have the big size grip like we get with the LMF2. I know that they let the U.S patent run out on the design which makes you wonder if they are going to make something new in that version?
    Anyways David great job I love your interviews.

    I like Gerber products, and carry a Prodigy (serrated 420HC fixed-blade) in the woods, and one of their better multi-tools on my First Aid bag. That Shark Belly in the video looks interesting as a necker.

    I must say Gerber warranties are really great. I called them and told them I broke the tip of my knife I used it as a screwdriver knowing it was not the right way to use the knife. The gentleman on the phone said sometimes we just need a screwdriver lol send it in will take care of it. I was kind of hoping for a bit of a fight but they were just far too kind I was shocked. So I have no fear of ever purchasing a gerber product if it breaks they will fix it.

    I like my military issue Gerber multitool, but I like the knife on the outside. Also, the US Assist sounds and looks like a great knife. One thing about the Shark Belly knife. Why would they do unilateral grip? If you push forward there's no grip to prevent your fingers going toward the blade. Potentially cutting your finger. One example of pushing forward would be making feathersticks if you point the blade tip down. Eventhough, that knife isn't meant for kind of work, you never know what people would do with their knives. Especially, if they are new to the knife realm and don't know a lot of knife safety. Just a concern about the grip.

    • @TheKimjoh560
      @TheKimjoh560 7 років тому +6

      Bhargav Sharma Hard to say, time will tell. One thing about Leatherman though is that they are roughly the same price in europe as i the US. Gerber is often two or three times the price. If I buy a tool from either I usually get alot more for my money with Leatherman.

    Took my trusted Gerber Tanto tip pocketknife I've been carrying on an off for a couple of years and just tapped the back of my blade to see how my liner lock was working. Lock fail blade came out of the liner lock. Made sure the liner lock was centered and tapped the back of blade again, lock fail again. Was so disgusted I threw it in the nearest ditch by me. This was the second Gerber knife to do this that I owned. My two Gerber multitools have broken screwdrivers also, the screws that I was unscrewing were not that tight. Will not buy Gerber products again .

    "Liner lock there, so it's secure"? At least put a bolt lock there, Gerber. Liner locks are not very reliable for a hard use knife.

      +Rick AB. Dude... if you are talking to me... I have no idea what you are talking about? If you used profanity, in your comment, then the UA-cam filters might have kicked your comment out. I personally get 1,000s of comments per week. I don't have the time to respond or monitor them... I just "randomly" saw yours. So... a bit of advice... Relax. Chill. Go for a walk. Take a deep breath. Life is way too short to blow a gasket over your UA-cam comment. Have a great day! -David

  • @lukepippin4781
    @lukepippin4781 7 років тому

    Lol all these idiots smashing on Gerber. They purposely make knives and tools at all price points. On your lower price items, you're gonna have to sacrifice a little quality. The great thing about Gerber is you don't sacrifice much. I've loved every Gerber I've owned, and I still have all but two. One I lost (my favorite edc knife) the other I traded... for another Gerber.

      Hudson that assisted opening knife with s30v steel American made under 80 bucks? yeah I can see why you'd be upset....

    • @robhimself79
      @robhimself79 7 років тому +4

      Hudson I get it but they're tapping into multiple markets.. nothing high end or even close but that one I mentioned makes me wonder why I would even consider a spyderco or benchmade of the same type. that is a really good knife for the price. then you've got your lower end stuff like those skeletool knives. you're obviously a guy who appreciates high quality knife. they're not targeting you here but its hard not to acknowledge that an American made s30v knife with bearing assisted opening for that price isn't a little exciting..

      @ellijahsmith4445 7 років тому

      I don't think you have to be a knife snob to know Gerber makes garbage knives. I use to love Gerber but it's gone way down hill and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

    • @Jaysann22
      @Jaysann22 7 років тому

      I don't discriminate by just brand. I look at materials and how the knife is manufactured. Im a big fan of Helle knives. But I didn't say Gerber is crap. I said I didn't like anything I saw in THIS show. I actually own SOME Gerber. I love the LMF.

    • @bluegrasssurvival9423
      @bluegrasssurvival9423 7 років тому +1

      Actually thats not so true. After the Ultimate Survival Knife debacle Gerber has been using better materials to make a better knife. The Strongarm is badass!

    • @ellijahsmith4445
      @ellijahsmith4445 7 років тому

      I'm lucky enough to have a job where I can afford the somewhat more expensive and better quality name brand/custom knives. But I just like knowing what I purchased will hold up longer than most knives and keep me safe from a defensive stand point. Plus you get what you pay for I suppose.
