Hardcore punk is my life, and I sing and play guitar in a hardcore punk band and love everything about punk and go to punk shows ALL THE TIME and listen to 80s hardcore punk so much, and Tool is still my favorite band.
Am I dead? I must be. Tool playing Dead Kennedys with Jello Biafra. If I believed in a heaven then I must be there, otherwise how can I be hearing drumming like that alongside this song?
A guitarist with NO, as in ZERO, history of playing "California Surf Punk" finds an EPIC win. I have, at least, never heard him play that style. He NAILED it.
This was a great show. They did a set with the drummer from Primus earlier, then they brought out Jello Biafra to perform this song. Count it...worth every cent.
So glad you recorded and uploaded this so I can relive it. Nice recording too! I loved that suite with white spikes Jello wore. The lights on it made it looks like the spikes were changing colors. Show was kif!
Yea but his voice should be louder really.. I've never heard of Tool but am a long time fan of the dead kennedys & they did do a pretty good job of the song.. Fukn awesome song in the first place... Good on jello,, would have loved to have been there..
I have the same Tool poster at :30 from the Las Vegas show on my wall right now but with Mother Mary in blue instead of jesus in red, everything else is exactly the same. They played 2 days in a row at the Pearl, Amazing show as always.
Fucking Christ Jello B you warned them and gave them a way out in you're music and spoken word. They didn't listen though. That's why so many of us sooth sayers get so disapointed with humanity.
when they had jello open up for them in san francisco most of the kids in the crowd didn't know what the fuck was going on.....it was fucking grrrreeat
Twitchy Toke is 16, don't matter none. Let him/her rage via fashion for a couple years, then he/she will either do the consumer waltz or figure out a more effective way of subverting. Punk is a way of life, but it takes time to learn how. Don't give up Toke, and remember it ain't punk if you didn't DIY.
@Idontlikereligion Well, living through it does give you a unique perspective that no one who did not live through it could understand. My older brother was in Cambodia in the early 70's and we watched live when the controversy came out. Do you know what the controversy was and why this song would have such an impact (relatively) on British and American culture specifically Just like someone born in 2002 not fully understanding the impact of 9/11. Tell me what was the impact of this song was?
Every time I see one in the wild, I'll acknowledge their shirt, "Tool! They put on the best live shows. I saw them last year." and they look at me like, "🙄wut." Rush fans too. I love both bands, not the fans.
I was there. Front row. After Maynard said that if you're under 21 (which I am) you wouldn't know who it was, someone right next to me started screaming so I couldn't hear who he said it was. I was confused for a while as to who the fat old man dancing on the floor was. I eventually figured it out, but I was laughing pretty hard. By the way, Maynard sang along a tiny bit during some of the "holiday in cambodia"s.
So, before I start off, I'd like to ask you to please ignore my screen name. This was made a LONG time ago. I love punk, and DK, and yeah, I'm only 15. But I don't think that punk is only limited to the past like it's something that's lost all meaning. New punk has just as much energy and anger as older punk. Also, you know that punk and alternative videos are the only ones that talk about other genres and how much they suck?
I don't think i'm stupid for saying that... I wasn't just randomly saying it to say it, it was in response to when MJK said that people under 21 wouldn't know this song. But yeah I agree 99% of music does suck today.
damn! Tool playing in 4/4.
Yeah, just like on The Pot.
intravena my thoughts too
I was just thinking, I am not sure if they have any songs in this tempo, nuts. I love it haha. I love Dead Kennedys as well.
So wild I was a huge Dead Kennedy's in the 80s. Tool has been my favorite band since 91 I'm 52 now and listen to these 2 bands at least once a day.
Hardcore punk is my life, and I sing and play guitar in a hardcore punk band and love everything about punk and go to punk shows ALL THE TIME and listen to 80s hardcore punk so much, and Tool is still my favorite band.
That's cool but Tool ain't hardcore punk haha
Am I dead? I must be. Tool playing Dead Kennedys with Jello Biafra. If I believed in a heaven then I must be there, otherwise how can I be hearing drumming like that alongside this song?
Ahhh Jello!
Man I love the fact that Biafra's message is still being put out by so many bands!
A guitarist with NO, as in ZERO, history of playing "California Surf Punk" finds an EPIC win. I have, at least, never heard him play that style. He NAILED it.
Adam Jones can do anything
Take It Easy - I'm Easily Offended Truth.
Its freaking Adam Jones man.
not too different to prog really
I WAS THEEEEEERRRREEEEE, about 15 feet away from the stage, this was awesome!!!!
Darryl West was jello singing that or was that Maynard?
@@tastybaconsensation it was jello. He came crashing out side stage and sang it. I too was there, damn good show.
me too. In Prague. !0.000 Days tour. And I got almost fokkin deaf!!
I should sue the bastards!
@@tastybaconsensation he brought Jello out as a guest!!!
This was a great show. They did a set with the drummer from Primus earlier, then they brought out Jello Biafra to perform this song. Count it...worth every cent.
I'm glad Biafra is singing but, I wanted to know what the song would be like tripped out with Maynard's voice.
Even playing a punk classic, Tool style is unique (specially Justin Chancellor)
So glad you recorded and uploaded this so I can relive it. Nice recording too! I loved that suite with white spikes Jello wore. The lights on it made it looks like the spikes were changing colors. Show was kif!
Jay Austin Graham He was wearing an entire suite? That must have been incredibly heavy and uncomfortable! (joke)
tool did a DAMN good job of covering holiday in cambodia this must have been a real treat to see
...and the crowd is baffled. Fucking awesome they did this.
This is excelent!! Jello Biafia singing with TOOL!!! What the hell could be better than an opening act called TRANS AM! THE GREATEST BAND EVER!
"Jello Biafra, Dead Kennedys....WAY before Green Day!"......EPIC
My 2 favorite artists of all time, so glad I found this vid
Thanks for uploading!
I was always a Dead Kennedys fan, and became a huge TooL fan in the early 90's, I have to say this version just makes me Creammmmmmmmm
jello's voice still sounds great
Yea but his voice should be louder really.. I've never heard of Tool but am a long time fan of the dead kennedys & they did do a pretty good job of the song..
Fukn awesome song in the first place...
Good on jello,, would have loved to have been there..
This is an awesome version of "Holiday in Cambodia" I feel like dancing.
There are no words to describe how great that would've been to see
Cool! Thanks for this RARE cover.
I'm 12 and Dead Kennedys are by far my favourite band
The question is: Do you know who Pol Pot was and what he did?
Noah Provis I guess you’re being raised well. Congrats, from another teenage DK fan
I saw Dead Kennedys on my 16th birthday.
I'm only 3 and a 1/2 yrs old and I love the Dead Kennedys!
I'm only a zygote and I love the Dead Kennedys!
My childhood and adulthood united
"dead kennedys, waaay before greenday" at the end lol
I used to be 21.
sounds amazing!
The guitar sounds so cool!
Wow! Why have I not heard this before?!!
I have the same Tool poster at :30 from the Las Vegas show on my wall right now but with Mother Mary in blue instead of jesus in red, everything else is exactly the same. They played 2 days in a row at the Pearl, Amazing show as always.
Yours is at 4:30
this is the single greatest thing ive heard on youtube, not shitting you.
In the immortal, wise, and above all correct words of Walter White;
Yer Goddamn Right.
20 but sure as fuck don't feel like 20. emotionally I'm 17 years old plus 3.
Dude, I didn't know Jello was still making music, many thanks for that info.
As much I love Jello's voice, I can't help wondering what this would sound like with Maynard singing.
I thought Maynard would be singing when i clicked on the video.
Nice cover! Better we didn't see the portly Mr. Boucher!
Biafria has done this song with Sepultura, The Offspring, Soulfly (ok quite a bit the same as Sepultura) and Tool. Were there others too?
I bet Danny was perplexed on the "normal" time sig
@usernam4444 What? I think you misunderstood. If the Dead Kennedys, Jello Biafra's band, never existed, Tool might never have formed.
Any more of this? Amazed I've never heard of it.
best cover version
Fucking Christ Jello B you warned them and gave them a way out in you're music and spoken word. They didn't listen though. That's why so many of us sooth sayers get so disapointed with humanity.
the only thing its missing is that really fast high hat work on the bridge between the hook and verse
I live in Connecticut, it's a state in the Northeastern USA.
Cool
I was at this show. Epic
when they had jello open up for them in san francisco most of the kids in the crowd didn't know what the fuck was going on.....it was fucking grrrreeat
Awesome. Totally remember it as if it were almost 4 years ago.
He sounds so good
I'm glad this exists.
i always thought that the bass in the beginning of holiday in cambodia sounded like a tool bass line
Adam Jones played guitar on Seig Howdy ( Jello Biafra and the Melvins)
Weird to hear Tool In 4/4 time. Long live The Dead Kennedy’s!

just turned 21 been knowing about jello
I'm under 21 and love the Dead Kennedys!
now you are 30

Outstanding...
wow I'm so glad I found this
variousitems look up the laaz rockit cover.
Awesome! Sound so true to the original version.
Yeeeees... show some respect to the legend of DK!
Psycho Zoikum #DeadKennedys real Punk with a capital P
Psycho Zoikum I love Tool but here's a much better cover of Holiday in Cambodia - Dave Grohl & Serj Tankian ua-cam.com/video/cUJrt6E6ki0/v-deo.html
Yeah Jello Biafra is the singer from DK who preformed w/ Tool at this show
holy shit most epic show of all time!

@beerisgoodnstuff dude the Foo Fighters got Serj Tankian to help them cover California Uber Alles. You should totally check it out!
Thanks for this great track. The 9 obligatory haters voted it down. They are everywhere, wtf? PTxS
Nice!!!
This so fucking epic dude!!!
holy shit this is awesome
Bet you the visual performance doesn't even compare to jello biafra
Is the singer from dead kennedys who were with them? :o its cool
Don't worry, every single tool fan are just like that.
Every time I see one in the wild, I'll acknowledge their shirt, "Tool! They put on the best live shows. I saw them last year." and they look at me like, "🙄wut." Rush fans too. I love both bands, not the fans.
If anyone could have nailed the hi hat on this song I thought Danny would be the one. That beat defines this song, and Danny missed the mark.
@djd259th uhhhh... The Melvins... derp. Y'know when they released two albums together and toured aka the Jelvins.
I was at this show and would kill to have a copy of that mp3, shoot me a message, and maybe we can work out a trade of shows or something. :)
Why are you on the computer then? Now your mind is exposed to things you are not suppose to see.

@uiruu actually Tool was headlining...no tool no opener

But they did though
welcome to Adam Jones!
@akhunatonic i just need a cc number so i can order some!! hey btw whats your credit card, SS, and PIN numbers?

Tool and Trans Am, that's a fuckin' good show.
Who's Green Day? I'm too old to know about them.
what do u mean by new punk?????
Awww, cute.
Time to do some Jello shots.
I don't think i'm stupid for saying that... I wasn't just randomly saying it to say it, it was in response to when MJK said that people under 21 wouldn't know this song. But yeah I agree 99% of music does suck today.
Nice work but not a patch on the original:
Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia (1981)
its live with the original singer/composer...what more do you need? elitist. this effn rawks.
L. Cash
I prefer the raw original, live with it.
pfft elitist.
Came here looking for the commando cover but stayed for Cambodia
@beerisgoodnstuff i know right lol o and i meant to say Holiday In Cambodia not California Uber Alles. my bad dude lol
