Mistakes are not the best way to learn but you WILL remember. I cut two frames and welded back what i wanted. Then I changed the front axle to a new straight axle with brakes ... not noticing the original was a 2" drop. Now 5 foot away my cab is low in the back by several inches. Lesson - get your axles like you want before you weld them frames together. Now i have to fix that. Loved you videos.
I love the honesty. Your intro is true when modifying any vehicle. Minitruckin magazines got me into wrecking trucks and cars 20+ years ago.. I strayed away from the mini truck world for racecar things.. but now that I am getting older, I figured it's time to get back into the mini truck scene. Obviously a body drop has always been on my wish list..(more specifically a first gen 2 door blazer) I can say I'm extremely happy you're making these videos and being honest with your experience. Too often people just cut to the finished product like, "TA DAA! Its done".. this is perfect. Keep up the good work👍👍👍🍻
Thank you very much! To be honest, I sort of feel the same way when I watch a lot of other videos. In my world mistakes tend to happen more often than they do with other people. But my goal is to show that it can be done even with my lack of knowledge or experience. The simple fact is that sometimes you have to start over! I am willing to show everyone that I’m willing to start over.
Just found your channel. Your honesty and willingness to fess up to your mistakes is refreshing and real. Props to you for exposing yourself outside of your comfort zone. Keep on grindin. Hard works pays off. If we didn't make mistakes we'd never learn. The struggle is real. Appreciate ya.
Thanks so much! I once had an employer that said “If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not working hard enough.” I think that applies to all aspects of life. ✌🏻
I appreciate the more personal aspect of builds, it helps to keep me interested and inspires me to keep moving forward with my own S10 build. I really dig that you are attempting things you are unsure about, we don't grow or learn things by staying in the comfort zone. I say bag it, hack it, screw stuff up and do it again! Good work man, keep it up. Subbed, and looking forward to your build progress.
One of the six, i personally like this because exactly what you said at 19:50, and the intro was going over a bunch more issues youve found. Its super long winded, but straight facts lmao
Thanks. A lot of viewers don’t care for that. But for me,I get a ton of satisfaction by sharing the story behind the reason for the project and the backstory of the issues involved. Thanks for the sub too. ✌🏻
Body dropping would be so much easier if not for the frame horns. There's no video of cabs being cut because no one ever finishes the job 😂 Glad you posted this..YT needs more body drop builds
@Wrong Way Garage No problem! Not boring at all! I watched 2 and 3..the targa top video was pretty cool too! Been debating on stock flooring my 01 Blazer for 3 years now and your videos got wanting to finally give it a try
Great video! Loved it just the way it was so keep them coming. P.S. I always cover the glass with something before I grind or weld. I use cardboard to keep the sparks off.
Like so many others, I’m learning as I go... if sharing my mistakes makes it easier for someone else then it’s totally worthwhile! Glad I could give some insight! 👍🏻
Feel like I’m currently going through a lot of the same dilemmas myself. A little late to the video, but my current project is a 87 extended cab s10 I’d like to keep static. Been trying to stay away from a body drop but also would love to hide the frame and be able to get the truck to look a little lower while keeping the frame as a protective piece. Currently watching the videos, but huge thanks for your perspective and take on the body drop!
I’m currently doing the same frame off retro body drop on 89 B2200. Huge pain in my ass and I’ve got a big shop with lots of equipment and its still a body off frame type build. Appreciate the insight and video quality.
Looks good man and your right about blocking the frame up, I actually just weld 1x1 tubing on the bottom of the frame side to side front and rear of the cab and once you make your cuts let it come down onto the tubing and you know the rockers and bottom of the frame are lever, you would have to space them up somehow just doing 1.5 inches
@@wrongwaygarage you might wanna consider making the step/filler pieces slanted also it helps the carpet fit a little bit better tho it might not be as big of a deal on yours being a smaller body drop
hey man im new here so i guess i make number 7 lol but i love the video and your thoughts on it it make watching the build better. im getting ready to body drop my 91 s10 and you showed me what im getting into. keep up the good work and if you dont get it right the first time you will the 2nd or 3rd time lol
So far… I tend to get it right on the fourth try! 😂 And then I think of all things I should have done different 😖 But that’s just part of it! Glad to have you onboard the channel!
I also caught you wanted to keep the frame a little lower then the body.my only suggestion is go ahead and get the body even with the frame because you can add thicker frame bushings.being someone that has had a static dropped truck then a just bagged truck.then moving to body dropping one I've always wanted to go lower.just my opinion and you know what they say. . .
When I built my Dually I did NOT what it bodied , however I knew that if I ever decided to sell it that a bodied Dually would sell better than one that was just low , so I bodied it then put 3/4 spacers under the air bags .
Another screw up on a streetrod was i used a front mounted rack and pinion behind the axle. Steers wrong way. YES there are two types of Rack and pinion. One has the pinion above the rack and the under one has the rack below the pinion. I learned that lesson. Maybe this will help someone. Keep turning those wrenches.
Had to repause around 3:09- my CURRENT s10 project is on frame "adjust" #3 as well! (Last time tool an entire donor zr2 to get the mounting points adjusted the way I wanted them lol
New subscriber, just on ypur opening /intro..oh; I am also currently building S10 #7...all Second Generations but I'd like to eventually build a first gen around an early HO 302 I've had laying around for about 30 years.Gotta be different lol.
