Please help my story be told, as well as the others affected by this awful company. A simple like and share means so much. Edit: Many new people have shared their stories with me after having seen my video. This iceberg goes even deeper than what I've covered, but I dont plan to make a part 2 at this moment. I'm waiting to see how things play out. It's been over 3 days since I sent a notice of termination but still radio silence. Eventually they'll have to get back to me. I'd also like to address the story I told about someone pretending to be an aniliver within my video. After talking with this person more I can confirm that they were actually accepted, just never chose a model hence why I'd never met them. There have been other situations in the past, however, of people trying to leak info this way
I hope you didn't sign this google form with your real name. Anyway - show that shit to lawyer. I highly suspect these ToS do not constitute anything resembling a valid, binding NDA.
@@evilgremlin nope. It was my character name under anilive and then my discord username. What a joke... for a period of time I was going to school to become a lawyer. Obviously I'm no pro but this seemed like such a joke. No legal name? A Google form?? The actual contract being a separate web page not even linked or referenced within said form??? I feel pretty safe about this video considering the joke that was the contract + me still being careful about what I said. I agreed to take the hit for everyone though so if anilive has an issue I will be looking at options. Edit because apparently we have some 4channers here that like to make assumptions: I went to a trade school in high-school. This means I was under a law program throughout my schooling. Upon the decision tongo to college, I decided that I wanted to pursue linguistics (which I'd also taken classes in) more than law. I did not go to a "law school" or drop out of one either. I simply took several general law classes as I explored future career and college options. I decided linguistics was more fun. Thanks. :) And as for why I signed it? It's not even a legally binding document. Nothing to lose, and $900 for 0 effort is nice for someone in medical debt.
@@evilgremlin also, I've signed a legitimate NDA before when I partnered with tiktok so I agree this does not look binding at all. I even did some quick Google searches that led me to feel it was also invalid especially since my legal name is nowhere. It was mostly good faith. Also let it be noted us talents are defined as independent contractors in the actual document, and the only thing listed as protected "authorized property" is our model for the most part
A "quantity over quality" approach to hiring talents, management ignoring talents' valid concerns/possible favoritism... This just sounds like a certain other company, only 10x worse
damn, this sucks. thank you so much for speaking out on this. hoping you’re doing MUCH better now and that this spreads to as many people as possible. stay safe man o7
Appreciate it o7 I'm doing fine as anilive was only going to be a silly side project for me. Wanted to wait out my 3 months or whatever for ip rights then make a silly video about "going undercover on anilive". I guess this is that video just... Not in the way planned lmao
AniLive Contacted me inviting me to join their platform a few months ago. I politely declined, and I'm glad I did. I DO still have a screenshot of that DM lol. Thanks for this very informative video. I'm sorry you went through that as well.
Yeah... I thought I did enough research but I guess by only looking up ceo, staff, etc I judged a book too hard by the cover. Should've looked more into other details
10:50 - So is their tech using AI to animate a PNG? 12:00 - Yes 11:57 - AI Rigging Allegations 13:46 - AI Art Allegations 18:24 - AI Job on Linkedin 20:05 - My Experience (Part 2) 36:30 - Anonymous Statement 2 39:44 - Anonymous Statement 3
From my understanding, yes? I don't know exactly how the tech works if I'm being honest. All I know is I uploaded a static png and suddenly it was "rigged" after a 5 minute loading screen
To help with the first question. From what they told me. It is a single illustration that they do not cut up as they do not rig the model but rather animated instead. The way it moves is due to a in-house program that they have yet to disclose.
That's a shame. It seems like this organization is in over their heads. It happens, but the lack of damage control, information, and accountability, regardless of how busy management is, the concerns of employees need to be acknowledged along with an assurance of help even if it's something that takes some time. I think supporting the individual talents and not the company is the way to move forward with things. I'm all for talent support! Thank you, Karmunism, for the video and you and the other talents. Good luck with things to come.
Thank you so much! I've been informed by one of the other talents that Anilive is potentially trying to fix some things internally. I hope they'll release a public statement too. I don't want to have an ego and say it's because of my video, but I do hope everyone's voices were heard some way or another.
@karmunism that's good news that someone is trying to fix things. Having an ego is fine, but at the same time, it's one of those things that people need to keep in check, but it's not wrong to indulge a little. As far as the video, in my experience, if you don't say or do something, then no one will. The "you" is vague, and it refers to anyone and everyone with these sorts of things.
6:42 "I sent you a friend request" 💀 A mail consisting only of this sentence, the professionalism was buried deep down. Struggling this much for a simple contact, this is messed up 8:44 This sounds like a freaking Pokemon starter pack: choose between 3 models 20:50 Personal experience 👀
First off, you are so animated (pun intended) and interesting to listen to. Second, thank you for sharing this story. You told it super respectfully but called attention to something that needs to be addressed. Love you Karma
Wanted to reach out via Discord as I plan on covering this situation, but thanks for sharing for your experience and it's unfortunate what you've had to go through with this company.
I just learned that the CEO of Anilive is Captain aka the previous CEO of Prism Project. That is messed up cause I heard he worked very hard with the Prism girls to ensure their best success and they spoke highly of him. What the heck happened?!
EXACTLY. One of the big reasons I decided to apply was because I researched the company and thought I would be in decent hands with him as a CEO. he seemed experienced, and so did his staff. Guess something changed though... money and greed changes people
@@karmunism As an OG Prism fan... Captain has always been kinda sus honestly. We put up with it because he seemed to at least care enough to understand the talents' selling points. A shame that Sony didn't care about them much either, prioritizing the JP branches of their project... but at least Shogun (Captain's replacement at Sony) came across as a lot more professional and trustworthy.
I actually applied as well but all of these red flags in the beginning that you mentioned, made me turn around and walk away. I'm glad I did. I'm so sorry you had to go through all that stress in the end 😭
I'm so happy that everyone is receiving the video well. I worked so hard on this. Even though there's still a lot of info I left out for times sake, I think this video is damning enough as is. It's so funny that someone called me a clout chaser on Twitter. I told them to watch the video and they said they'd come back to report later so hopefully they changed their mind after seeing this dumpster fire lol
Incredible... I wasn't aware some of this went so deep. Thank you for taking the time to speak about your experiences. And once again, you all have my condolences. Please do take care.
hey…current anilive volume 2 here…. I am starting to see all this myself and im happy that someone came forward about it. The “demo” they showed in the interview powerpoint was basically a slightly restrained 2d model not these glorified drawings. i almost dont want to debut
@Cosmicore2014 no one is going to force you. Do what you feel is right whether that means graduating or debuting! I'll still support everyone and I'm sure others will too. Your decision is independent of anilive
Wow i was so excited to see how anilive would turn out since i remember the ceo’s previous project, prism. Sounds like they are heavily understaffed or that they bit off more they could chew, and pushed out stuff too early.
I agree 100%. I didn't apply to wave 1 because I wanted to see how things went. Everything seemed fine which is why I applied to wave 2. I did a lot of research into the company (anotherball, not just anilive), ceo, and staff beforehand. Seeing the huge budget as well as everyone's experience I felt pretty confident while applying. The prism project thing was what stood out to me as well! I thought "dang they probably know what they are doing". I'm not sure the reason for all this tbh. It could be that captain simply hired the wrong team, or maybe they are just understaffed? There's also the possibility they are cutting corners, but with a budget so massive I have no idea why they would need to. I've been reached out to by multiple people since posting this video and apparently even wave 1 had a lot of issues. They just didn't go as public as this. Can't wait to see how they try to dig themselves out of this
@@karmunism "A budget so massive but why would they need to cut corners, you ask?" "Worked in corporate and construction, so I can tell you it is greed and corruption." "They have little interest in spending the budget properly. Instead, their most likely goal is to spend as little of the budget as possible, keep the rest, and squeeze as much profit as they can. This burden is then placed on the employees."
I'm sitting here accepted since mid October with no model choices!! I'm also shocked you were accepted so quickly, when it took me almost an entire month. This entire process was already stressful before the AI allegations
I was shocked too when I heard about everyone else's on-boarding experience. I wonder why they were so quick to debut me but stalled so long on others... I'm wondering if it's because I'm already an established creator and they thought I'd bring clout whereas some of the others had never made content before so they cared about them less. If that's the case it's really screwed up that they bumped me to the front of the line just because I have more experience. They should be debuting people based on when they are accepted
@karmunism I was thinking that would be the case also, but I'm also an established creator and also did my interview same day. There's so much inconsistency
They sent me an email in October inviting me to be part of their "vol 2". I have yet to reply and it looks like I dodged a huge bullet. They did not even ask about inviting my mascot (Tiny Kitty). Felt like they did not do much research about me before sending the email off. Myself and Tiny Kitty are like peanut butter and jelly. You can't separate us.
a company that ran through Google Form and Discord... my thought when watching through this is - "is the company even real? Or it was just 1 or two person running it at a shack somewhere in X-country?"
Man, this sucks for you to experienced this horrid company, and it's glad for you to speak out on the matter since it is quite important for the viewers to tell and share with others too.
Came from Katliente's video, this clears up so much actually- Im glad you spoke put and also corrected some misconceptions, as the video i came from was mostly a introduction to the drama (Kat's known to mostly summarize some things and goes based on what she sees. Shes good for more basic info but yk) I dont think this company will have a great road ahead considering a very bumpy start, but i wish you best with your streaming!
Thank you for talking about this, I was going to apply after getting a Twitter dm from them but I saw so many red flags. I tried doing some research about the company but it was difficult to find d any information. I appreciate this video so much, and I watched it to the end ♡
Graphics programmer here who have peeked into and even almost worked on Inochi2D (open-source Live2D alternative), and it seems like the eyes are AI generated on top of the original art, that's why they're looking awful. Limited animation techniques before the age of Live2D often worked with overlaid sprites for the eyes and mouth, but those were hand-drawn animation frames, so could be done for alternative-styles of VTubing (probably would look the best for pixel art models), but AI has its quality issues on top of ethical issues on both the art-theft and the human experience department.
I tried to make my video in such a way that even people who have 0 knowledge about vtubers can still understand the absolute dumpster fire this company has been. Don't need to be a vtuber fan to recognize trashy capitalism at its finest... glad you enjoyed!
Screw sleep, I must watch! In all seriousness, that really sucks for everyone involved (especially those who've had to graduate). Hopefully, everyone's doing better & those who left can continue to pursue their careers elsewhere. Give the peeps their prizes, too. Hopefully, you're doing well, too. October seemed like a very low month for you, with health & now this AniLive stuff. Cheering for you! (woooooo!) Alright, off to bed I go. Bye-bye.
19:15 i have a reliable source in nexas who has told me that the reason nexas was so quick to respond was because many of the talents were pressuring the higher ups to make a statement apparently there was some pushback against the idea but with the overwhelming push in favour of the statement, they had no choice
They offered me a spot in their v2 debut slots but had weird vibes especially knowing I had to upload my owned avatar onto their service or get a new persona (which I didn’t want). It didn’t sit right with me and thank you for speaking out
Wow this is so crazy. I made a new Twitter and everything and still waiting for responses as well on my side. I didn't put that I was part of jumpstart in my profile because I've been seeing everything go down but I'm sad because I got fanart already for my girl and was so excited to make new friends as well on the app. I gave my statement and I'm in Shoggymommy's video about the topic and I hope this one blows up too to show this craziness. Thank you for your reporting 😢
@@KagamineLen02 I'm so sorry to hear you had such a negative experience. Just know you're not alone! You'll find your community somewhere, but anilive as it stands is probably not the place. Sorry to hear you already commissioned stuff too. That really sucks
The ol' "shotgun blast out as many talents as you can hoping that you will rake in a lot of money with little effort" trick. It always leads to the downfall of these small vtuber corpos. Not sure why upcoming small corporations keep trying this method. It never lasts because corpos are spending far more money than they are making in returns.
Thanks to THAT merch company managed being a bilion company (back then) by cutting corner on cost and treat their talents as mere numbers, other companies following their steps for quick $$$
@@ainzer2903 yeah but that company had the benefit of being one of the very few companies in an at the time very niche market. So for a time they could rake in dough hand over fist pumping out constant talents. They also did properly market their talents, but their CEO has taken the belief that simply having the name of said company in their youtube and Twitter handle will be the only thing that the talents need and money will simply come in. They no longer market their talents and as a result they are being soundly bested by their main competitor and even smaller corpos are surpassing them.
@@Arthur01907I I do my best to explain everything, just gotta watch the entire video. I talk about what the company is, what's going on, my experiences, and a bunch more!
@@raderelcaroman1403 actually funny you say that-- this topic was cut from the video. Talents earned the $300 and this month they didn't receive it. They asked management where it was and they were like "lol you actually get it at the end of the next month, not the month you earned it". As far as I know no one has gotten any of the 300 yet. If they do, it won't be until late November early December.
With everything I've heard of this company, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it turned out to be completely run by one person using a bunch of bots. It certainly feels that way.
demin, i'm glad my adhd prevented me from doing that intro video after receiving their invite i'm so sorry all of you had to experience such terrible management
Wow... Sounds like I dodged a bullet. I was contacted through a Twitter DM to join months ago, applied, and then... never heard back whatsoever. That should've been the first sign. I wonder if I got the person you mentioned. I thought something seemed fishy when the v-tubers I'd been watching suddenly migrated to Twitch and UA-cam.
I ever applied to join their jumpstart program, the way they communicate is faster since I applied earlier when they posted the jumpstart program. I didnt get accepted and I didnt feel bad about it and went on my day until I was told about this video HAHAH 😔
Out of everything, the thing about the prizes is insanely concerning. That feels like a complete grift to make more for the company off the back of their talents' work
Oh 100% dude. I'm not even that concerned with the ai (because there are bigger issues) but for the love of God please give the talents better treatment
Holy *****! How and why does this seem to be such a common issue? I haven't found even one VTuber company that doesn't have some level of negative allegations against them, nor do any of them _seem_ to actually care about the streamers.
Yeah it's a mess 😭 The combination of my health, this ridiculous situation, and the general stress of being a creator really has taken a toll on me over the last month or two. Just glad to be having some sort of break to recover
@@karmunism After going through all that, you more than deserve and earned a recovery break! Your ability to stay level headed enough to go over your experiences with the company is inspirational. Truly. 💜
@Wicked_Knight I just hate the idea of naive beginners being taken advantage of. As someone who's been entirely indie until my experience, it was egregious seeing everything being asked of the streamers. You're better off being indie than dealing with this company as they give 0 support. There's plenty of free to use models out there if your only reason for joining was the model. Plus, $300 is ridiculous for the 40+ hours they ask you to stream. You're making minimum wage. Although some people may not mind that as they're beginning, I promise putting your effort elsewhere will be better in the long run. Here they stop paying after 3 months, have platform exclusivity, etc. Icky.
@@karmunism They couldn't even do the one thing that makes joining such a company worth while, promotion of their streamers Nor providing a preexisting user based to make that platform exclusivity actually worth something. It's situations like this with these companies that's had me place the idea on the back burner indefinitely. Well that and all the VTuber hostilities I've been seeing/hearing about.. It's disheartening to say the least..
Oof i just got to know about Anilive and im glad that i made a research first T-T Thats really sad but i hope something may change for better cuz thats kinda interesting project but lacks a lot and shouldnt be out yet ;_;
@nika9037 I disagree, as I think it's mostly to reduce latency. They want streams to be super low latency to increase interaction which means hosting the files on their end. But you never know
Man this sucks because i actually liked the Anilive app but if only there weren’t so many problems internally. If they actually cared about their app and the people who stream on that app this wouldnt have happened. They didn’t put the time into the app or the people in it, the blatant favoritism and negligence is appalling! They need to do better. AND ANOTHER THING! Is the obscurity and lack of transparency!! How can you build trust without transparency.
Well anilive actually doesn't have anyone's accounts ot logins, as we are defined as independent contractors. The "models" are loaded to our account in anilive directly, but we make these accounts ourselves. I dont think any vol 1 have a way to download their files because of this, so it can't be saved if anilive removes it. As for vol 2 our models are literally transparent pngs so we have those already dl
Tbh I wanted to join Anilive because it was advertised to be a new vtubing app for anyone to use but they say that it wasn’t ready. So I kinda feel like I was cheated on.
Yeah! So I use a program called warudo which is 100% the best option for 3d vtubing. I'll fight anyone on that. It has a lot of features but the ones related to tracking are 1.) Built in hand tracking 2.) Built in lean physics and 3.) The ability to customize blendshape sensitivity. It also has some other advanced settings to rig parts of your model yourself! That's how I made it so that ears also move when I talk-- it's all animated within warudo itself. There's a ton of great features besides that including 3d environments like the one I used, custom lighting, props, etc. Only disclaimer is that I added arkit blendshapes to my model + have an iPhone 12 for tracking. Good results will still exist but the tracking varies slightly based on your setup
@ thank you! I do really love making character designs and streaming them, after playing with Vroid i was kinda sad when some of the more well known trackers didnt really feel right for me. Thank you yet again! I will make sure to binge your vids when im drawing ❤️
@@WhiteWispers Thank you! Theres tons of warudo tutorials out there, and since it features a built in node based coding system you can do a LOT of cool stuff. I hope it works out, and thanks for the support!
I'm glad Vtubers are becoming more popular nowadays with that there is going to be scammers, black companies, fake promises, companies ghosting talents i mean its not all bad but if you're a Vtuber just be careful try to look into the company you're trying to be apart of and if it sounds to good to be true it usually is.. Thanks for the video first time hearing about this company want to wish you good luck i'll try to catch your streams..
Yeah, I did research and the CEO even founded a successful vtuber agency. Lots of funding and good staff on a surface level so I assumed it past my checks. This was meant to be a fun side project but it really blew up. Just another failed cash grab
They actually reached out to me and emailed me asking to join!!🥴 Sending a form isn't legally bonding so I applied out of curiosity just to check, got another mail asking if I applied aaand... silence LOL I already had an established audience on Twitch and didn't want to give up on it + I had my own model, so it might've scare them away considering I didn't wan't to be exclusive to them and my model is a fully rigged L2D avatar. Lack of actual contract would scare me off anyway, can't believe they actually try to offer money and don't care to deal with it professionally. Also, shame of them for luring streamers in by very good looking and professional gen1 models. They looked amazing and I really liked the designs they provided to the point they reaalllyy made me want to redebut under a different avatar there 😮💨 Now that you pointed out these two obviously ripped off designs, I found some others that are clearly referencing to other characters/vtubers... I am glad it didn't end up worse and you managed to cancel everything. Actually, it's great they didn't care about contracts, as you could just go away and not look back LOL
I had some people roasting me for signing the contract which I think is dumb. It wasn't legally binding at all, so it literally was 0 risk. They didn't even ask for my legal name. Free money is free money, and anything can help at times. Sucks it didn't work out but whatever
I made a comment but deleted it because I should get the full story of this first before jumping anywhere, as I don't know of any controversial stuff with ani thing +Edit* Thanks Ms for the information from this video, I ain't done yet but I'm learning quite a bit of a side of vtubing I didn't really understand
I've been keeping an eye on AniLive ever since the NEXAS debuts were announced, which seemed shady in itself. It seems like AniLive's own program is potentially even more mismanaged, and I've seen some pretty bad things said about NEXAS from former talents. So sorry you got caught up in all this! I definitely think that the base drawings are human-made, but the animation is AI and they're being coy about outright stating that because they know a lot of people take a very hard stance against it. The thing with artists also seems suspicious because I'm not sure if a lot of artists would approve of their work being used this way if they knew?
Never heard of these people but they sounded VERY unprepared and unprofessional about all this, then tried to cover their own asses with anonymity rules. Wouldn't it have been better for them to have a solid foundation for their business before flooding themselves with would be streamers? I know basically nothing about Vtubing, but even I could figure that one out. Everything you've said sounds like an insane situation 😅
NGL after all the stories not about only Anilive but other corporations ehem KUROSANJI and well some of the bigger talents on other agencies retiring to become indie youtubers and after what Sora the troll published in his video, it seems like being a corpo VTuber it does not pay off aside from getting that initial boost in popularity towards yourself. I hope you can sail towards fairest seas, best of luck.
I never actually looked at the app but I heard about it like a year ago, and I wondered how Anilive was going to go from the start. It seemed like they had a lot of talents and even big corporations struggle to support the numbers they had - Plus being entirely separate from Twitch/UA-cam, which is I think how a lot of vtubers get found. I wonder if they're trying to test the tech or something? Either way it feels like a quantity over quality thing. Sorry that y'all had to go through that mess, I doubt Anilive will get any better but I hope the talents end up ok.
It honestly seems like they're trying to recreate the success of Iriam JP before Iriam makes an English branch. I have no idea. Regardless it's a mess and was very poorly handled
"Path to hell is paved with good intentions" the idea of a "cheap way into the industry" is proven to be too good to be true sadly. At best it seems they had an idea and no plan, at worst it feels like a way to grab up easy money from people who can't afford to comission a rig. Hope everyone effected can eventually find some peace and break through in their own way.
I think there is a misconception that ANIlive is a vtuber agency; when they are really a tech company. Assuming the goal of ANIlive is to develop this AI rigging technology. It is not about supporting talents, but getting enough data to build the AI model. This explains the large amount of recruits. The steps so far seem to be. 1. Get experienced vtubers to upload Live2D models and stream using the app (supported by financial incentives). 2. Collect the motion tracking data and link this to the live2D model and generated video data. 3. Use this data to train an AI model, creating an AI system to deform a PNG image based on the motion data. 4. Use the jumpstart program to test their AI model. I wonder if the contract has anything about using user data to train AI?
@@shirohane I half agree on the agency part. Yes, you're right! The direct mission is not to support talents. In the contract people are defined as independent contractors. Despite this, us as "independent contractors" still are owed the things defined within said contract as compensation. The way things are placed, it implies support will be given through direct staff interaction etc. Basically we still work directly under them, so we are still affiliated in such a way that there is a lot of communication and direct working together. Gotta hold to the promises given, although no one is entitled to the same stuff as an agency. I get way you're saying though and I do think people may have gotten the wrong idea if they didn't do a lot of research. As for the contract, as far as I've been made aware it is only Jumpstart that signed anything. Indie vtubers did not sign or see anything contract related. Within the contract I have though, both the bs Google form and the actual full tos, AI is never mentioned. Again, this is only for jumpstart as indie did not get anything like this (at least the ones I talk to). So if the models are being used for AI training there was no legal disclosure and that could become an issue in the future. I don't think that's why they ask for models, but that's just my personal opinion based on limited knowledge. From my understanding, they ask for the files so that they can host the data on their own servers. This reduces latency since the user is not running the tracking and model through their own phone. Anilive is really aiming for real time chat, so it's a step towards getting there.
@@karmunism In regards to the misconception about ANIlive being a agency, I was thinking more about the commenters rather then the Vtubers that are signing up for the platform. For instance scrolling through the comments I see that ANILive and NEXUS are being confused with each other even though they are separate companies which different business strategies. The contract information is interesting, I imagine that any data harvesting would be in the platform TOS and could be worded vaguely. Before I knew about the AI job listing and allegations, I originally thought the reason they wanted models to be uploaded was for network optimization. For example: Twitch is unprofitable because of the cost of the bandwidth needed to send video files to thousands of people, but if they could send the models to viewers as needed when you join a stream and then just send audio and tracking data they can reduce the data transfer cost. If they can send the minimal data, they could also reduce the latency.
@shirohane I agree with all your points, especially the latency thing. I've mentioned it to a few others. Only time will tell, and that's if the choose to address it.
LMAO i just threw random youtube library music over it. I didn't finish this until like 1am and just wanted to sleep. It's like the same 5 jazz songs on loop
@name-equals-theLucidLibrarian I can get you the music once I'm home and at my PC. I'll do that for sure-- it was just 1am and I was so tired and wanted to sleep
In all fairness they literally used their mascot to sell nft's and her website would mine crypto on your PC. They also got in hot water for marketing her as a vocaloid without Yamaha's approval
@@karmunism Yeaaaaaaaah it caused a fuss within the vocaloid scene. I highly recommend people be wary of this company and anything that they get involved in, its always shady and never thought through
It sounds like a lot of mismanagement, not enough qualified/trained staff to handle problems, and shotgunning talents, with the Agency hoping to get their own viral hit like Fuwamoco. It sounds like they need to pump the brakes and get their ideas to reality before. They should've started with at most, one to two generations of Livers and worked on their program there. Then let time and the market let them grow naturally, instead of forcibly trying to squeeze blood from a metaphorical stone.
Oh 100%. They have a super experienced ceo and on the anotherball site there was some other credible staff listed, although not all work on anilive obviously. It seems like beyond this, staff was very new and inexperienced though. I assumed everyone would be quality but it looks like potentially the wrong people were hired. It's either that or there is just way too much understaffing paired with the massive onboarding
@@karmunism I can agree with that. Subbed becauase you have some neat content. It seems like the management has been a critical issue for a lot of industries. I work security and post Plague 2020,the quality of management has nosedived.
Damn, them not giving a proper response or revealing artists is just screwing over all the existing streamers on the app. Disappointing because I’ve been following the jumpstarters from the beginning. 😔
Was this not the app that Ex prism staff worked on and ex prism members streamed on at some point I think I remember Shiki saying she was going to stream on it?
@@karmunism the AniLive page on the Virtual UA-camr Wiki has 9 of the ex-PRISM Project talents having debuted on the app (they also have a 10th listed, but I couldn't find any tweets from them or AniLive concerning their debut, so I'm think a copy&paste error on that one). Those debuts were apparently back in May/June/July, no idea if they are still making content on the app.
@@DocRekd-fi2zk I agree. I never was sold on the whole ai thing tbh. I was a firm believer it was human but the image of yuuna shown in the video sowed a few doubts. Still easily explainable by an overworked artist though! These studios are basically artist sweatshops. They get paid so little and are expected to do so much. After that, people sweep in to say it's all ai which is the cherry on top
Since AniLive's announcement of the platform to launch, it has been touted as 'the more popular the more help you'll receive' like a favoritism battle royale. I haven't heard that since after the first wave debuted but platform restrictions like exclusively to iPhone (iPad wasn't optimized) and not rewatchable made me want to not bother or support it. It was an interesting premise, however debuting so many talents at once already felt extremely pushy. Now that all of this has come out, it's extremely unfortunate it's turned out like this. This can't keep happening if these Vtuber companies want to succeed. I'm hoping no one suffered worse than what is mentioned already and that everyone already in it make it out without issue.
**I would like to warn before you read this i am half awake (its 5 am (est))** I feel AI is taken over everything. MULTIPLE games i play is not allowing people to talk in the in english voice because almost all of the characters are voiced by someone in a company which asked them if they could use their voice. (ITS OK SCARA CAN TALK IN ENGLISH Ive also seen ATON of animations which i would think its amazing and only see some mistakes. Its ai. Aton of art i rlly like? Ai. I feel this world is turning into an ai only use world. If im right twitter is also using aton of peoples art to practice Ai i think or train them. And my school my ela teacher has an ai detector bc students ALWAYS use ai for their essays apparently (Im trying to show all the ways ai r taking over uhm idk anymore.) MORAL OF THE STORY. FK AI. the end. (Again idk i you said any of this its 5 am (est) and im getting dressed for school while writing this)
Unfortunately I don't feel comfortable saying it, as I don't own the IP. Even if the contract is likely illegitimate, I know the identity can potentially be covered under authorized property in the confidentiality section. It's easy to piece together with a little internet sleuthing based on my person experience section, however
what this most like is isn't machine learning, but digital puppetry. It used to be, however, you still needed multiple assets- eyelids, closed and open mouths (think a 1 state and a 0 state.) Then, those just sit on top of the model in a cookie cutter pattern (trigger areas for eyes, for example.) Movement, then, was tracked and simulated via simple deformations (akin to flash or vector) and controlling the "on/open" and "off/closed" state of things that flapped (eyes and mouth.) It was useful in the animation days, but as vtubeing expanded obviously more moving parts were needed and thus the whole process was replaced by rigging. What these stupid idiots over at Anilive are doing if I had to guess is going BACK to that, but not even having the grace to use either solid shaded parts for the flaps or anything. Literally laying the pattern over a png, and smearing the hell out of it to make it look like it was rigged. If you know anything about smear frames (or even just tried to resize a picture in any photo editing software,) however, you'll know that 2d raster images don't look good if you start warbling them about like a madman. Which is why, even in the flash days, you normally ditched rasters altogether in favor of vectors that did cleanly scale and transform, and you stacked vectors for different body parts for more concise animation.
I completely understand this, and I agree about the smearing. The process is still fully automated though which is all I meant by a lot of sentiments. Upload any photo and bam magically animated
@@karmunism Which makes sense, given they're going for a filter approach that cookie-cutters any thing, including photographs. The fact that it just automates these triggers, however, is more than disrespectful in a field where actual human riggers would take care of those animation triggers for you. Nor is there really a case where what they've done is at all free of issues. If it is just a heatmap over the moving bits and shifting/deforming, then you have the obvious issue of quality and bland attempt to create a one-fits-all mentality to what should be more tailor-made solution. If it is machine learned, then you have the bucket of worms that comes with that. Especially since the job posting for an "AI" engineer came out AND they had the bizarre requirement you upload your model to their server. To the extent that not having to get someone to rig your model may be tempting, this is the lowest grade tungsten hammer approach they can take for it, and it shouldn't be defended.
@RobertStoll you hit the nail on the head. An animated system for rigging is in of itself a bad thing. The issue is in vtubing that artists and riggers are the BACKBONE. It's kind of against the ideals of this type of content. Even then, if they were honest about the automated system it wouldn't be such an issue. The fact is they are leaving it unaddressed and being vague rather than upfront. Transparency is key especially when people are upset. Vague corporate speech won't help yoy
44:20 yep they actually msg me about joining so i asked them do you have a discord i can join to see if i can be a good fit and they neever replied back, then they got banned after i asked something about like hey you got my application?,
@@monokoUwU Yup! You probably were reached out to by the banned account. It's so unprofessional to spam DM. You dodged a bullet by not joining. It seems they ghost anyone who brings up questions or concerns
Good you are doing it. As you want, Anilive will fail and the concept will fall by the wayside. You know, the concept that Twitch and UA-cam should have competitors. I've probably spent more time talking to the lead of development of the app and one of the marketing reps than you since I met with them at offkai. No I didn't talk to Captain.
PNGtuber sets that dont try to "mix together" Live2D vtubing and PNGtubing are better than some of the models they offer right now. How the hell do you get a ridiculously static body without cheaping out so hard... They were able to manipulate people like yourself into believing that stiffer and worse Live2D-esque models is a "new technology". This is insane.
Again, the video I was initially shown was completely different. This was where the deception came in from. I only ever saw anilive as a fun secret side project, and I will always think 3d is the superior vtubing format. Is what it is though
The problem is that I'm pretty sure that the CEO and Founder of Anilive doesn't really want to even be a vtuber manager again. But he needs content for the app since they want to try to be an alternative to YT and Twitch, but can't afford the bandwidth of doing it by actually streaming real video. At best the vtube management side is really just "paid beta testing". I'm sorry to everyone that joined thinking they would get the level of care that Captain gave to PRISM prior to handing them off to Sony. They don't deserve that.
@gerthddyn Honestly I agree with you. I saw this as a side project but still wanted to do some research before applying, even if I knew they'd let me keep this YT. I didn't want to be micromanaged. Seeing the CEO made me feel like things would probably be decent, although I'm more than willing to look over problems here and there. I was shocked at the mess everything actually was
Ah s**t. And I was hoping to start streaming there. Welp ... it is what it is. Corpos be corpos. And I happened to be DM'd by Anilive. i asked them on how to upload my 2d model if ever I'd join, but their manuals are so obscure AF
11:24 oh my God, that’s nothing if you go into vtube studio workshop there are quite a few models which is just images but rigged and also one which half of a model it’s just cut off normally by the legs or leading to the legs like for example Neko Lumine and Aether I can agree yes it seems quite unprofessional but this is a new agency obviously most agencies when they start out specially if they didn’t hit the one year mark yet they will seem quite unprofessional since well. The agency is new. It hasn’t develop enough yet like even hololive gone through that stage at one point but they have changed bomb battle. Don’t get wrong that awesome things which are quite unprofessional for agency as big like not communicating well on some matters but generally they can grow from that
Oh yeah, obviously if they come clean about low budget or whatever else is going on they can recover. The problem is the fact that the ai art/rig allegations are only the surface. The first half of the video covers the existing drama and the second half is where I talk about everything else. The mistreatment of talents has been sobering, and if they go down that will be why imo. Poor art or mild ai usage can blow over but not the other stuff, especially if more people go public. I share my story + 3 others anonymously. I've already had multiple others dm me after watching my video though, plus I left out a ton of extra info for the sake of the videos length.
@@karmunism what is the as typical these are just allegations we don’t know if they are true or not some of us may think that and it’s in their light too, but unless one of the staff members or one of the people behind the AI engineering says says that is what it’s been used for or that is some kind of AI going around with a models we can think maybe they used it for that but as so unless it’s proven and at leave the rigging we shouldn’t treat it as factor unless it’s confirmed by the company itself or buy one of the staff members or ex staff members call me it’s all speculation but so far it’s take it at face value unless it is proven that it is or is not the case
You should try to debut just to say f-you. Not for the laughs, but to test the company. To test if they actually read your graduation message. If staff has read your message, I would expect them to take action and address that you shouldn’t be streaming. If they didn’t read the message, then they would probably continue ghosting you. At which point (assuming you have an official Twitter or some other social media) you could probably make a post/statement explaining everything. If management’s ghosted you for this long, I wouldn’t expect them to check your social media posts. That’s just an idea of mine. *please note that I don’t watch anything on Anilive and have very little knowledge of it.
26:01 okay this is very unprofessional. I guess you expect that from like a like new streaming platform, but I don’t know how long has the app came out for the information fact some short that gave me form Nexus talents it came out when the first generation or I guess class debuted which was probably 6 months ago or longer
@@ma1-t1f everything about this was unprofessional. The platform has been very active for 6 months now, and they were doing a lot of stuff even before then. If they are too understaffed to respond to their own talents they either should hire more people as staff or slow down on getting new talents until they can actually handle the ones they already have
The AniLive/NEXAS situation has been wild to learn about, and is entertaining in a car crash kind of way. I feel bad for all the talents though behind the screen. I wouldn't be surprised if some people leave the hobby entirely due to it.
@@BCman03_ Yeah... everything is crumbling. I did a lot of research on who owned the company before I joined, and they have a lot of experience and money backing them. I assumed since such heavy investors + people with experience were involved the company would be safe. Boy was I wrong... starting to think the budget might be dwindling because that's the only excuse I can think of. Where's that 14.8 mill?
23:43 wait a minute I thought that nexus was AniLive but AniLive was just for streaming platform the same thing but streaming not totally different like companies btw I didn’t notice before this video came out the Nexus things on you when I was just scrolling through the Twitter account looking for the next generation debut times since that is one which I really would like to watch live just to notice that and thought it was probably some animations maybe unproven or not btw I scrolled through the whole account. I didn’t find the times because it wasn’t posted yet
Anilive and Nexas are VERY different. Nexas is a professional vtuber company, and anilive is an app for your phone. Anilive is creating their own vtubers for the app, but nexas is just having their vtubers stream on anilive every once in a while. Nexas has said they don't use AI, while anilive is still being a little suspicious. I 100% think nexas has no ai, it's anilive that is questionable. Nexas has a debut schedule somewhere on the official Twitter, and I posted a debut schedule for the anilive talents on my Twitter (xkarmunism) earlier today as well if you'd like to support them.
I'm tired too. I've spent 3 days working tirelessly on this, and I really hope it goes over well with everyone. This situation has caused me so much stress.
There have been other situations in the past, however, of people trying to leak info this way
Reposted your story on twitter. Sorry this happened to you, none of you deserved this. I hope your channel grows fast and your community as well!
I hope you didn't sign this google form with your real name. Anyway - show that shit to lawyer. I highly suspect these ToS do not constitute anything resembling a valid, binding NDA.
@@fozlzed i appreciate it!

Wanted to reach out via Discord as I plan on covering this situation, but thanks for sharing for your experience and it's unfortunate what you've had to go through with this company.
My discord is Karmunism if you'd like to talk
@@karmunism money doesn't change anyone, just reveals what was already there
I actually applied as well but all of these red flags in the beginning that you mentioned, made me turn around and walk away. I'm glad I did. I'm so sorry you had to go through all that stress in the end 😭
holy moly i just went thru the whole video and a lot of people should hear you out about this.
I'm so happy that everyone is receiving the video well. I worked so hard on this. Even though there's still a lot of info I left out for times sake, I think this video is damning enough as is. hey…current anilive volume 2 here…. I am starting to see all this myself and im happy that someone came forward about it. The “demo” they showed in the interview powerpoint was basically a slightly restrained 2d model not these glorified drawings. i almost dont want to debut
Just don’t.
@@jrotc_cadet7453 totally agree. The video shown was super deceptive-- you aren't forced to join. Even if you agreed to their bs TOS you can quit
Honestly same… I’m currently anilive volume 2 too. And I’m just now seeing this video, kinda scared to debut.
Can't wait to see how they try to dig themselves out of this
@@karmunism "A budget so massive but why would they need to cut corners, you ask?"

Thank you very much for this thorough investigation and your hard work.
Of course!
Yeah, they unfortunately just spam email. They even emailed and dmd people already in the program

Im glad you spoke put and also corrected some misconceptions, as the video i came from was mostly a introduction to the drama (Kat's known to mostly summarize some things and goes based on what she sees. Shes good for more basic info but yk)
I dont think this company will have a great road ahead considering a very bumpy start, but i wish you best with your streaming!
Thanks so much for coming over here from her video! I'm glad I was able to clear some stuff up for you
Thank you for talking about this, I was going to apply after getting a Twitter dm from them but I saw so many red flags.
Limited animation techniques before the age of Live2D often worked with overlaid sprites for the eyes and mouth, but those were hand-drawn animation frames, so could be done for alternative-styles of VTubing (probably would look the best for pixel art models), but AI has its quality issues on top of ethical issues on both the art-theft and the human experience department.
i dont know anything about vtubers but thank you for sharing your story with us, i hope more people come across this!
I tried to make my video in such a way that even people who have 0 knowledge about vtubers can still understand the absolute dumpster fire this company has been. Don't need to be a vtuber fan to recognize trashy capitalism at its finest... glad you enjoyed!

Alright, off to bed I go. Bye-bye.
19:15 i have a reliable source in nexas who has told me that the reason nexas was so quick to respond was because many of the talents were pressuring the higher ups to make a statement
apparently there was some pushback against the idea but with the overwhelming push in favour of the statement, they had no choice
They offered me a spot in their v2 debut slots but had weird vibes especially knowing I had to upload my owned avatar onto their service or get a new persona (which I didn’t want). It didn’t sit right with me and thank you for speaking out

Oh 100% dude. I'm not even that concerned with the ai (because there are bigger issues) but for the love of God please give the talents better treatment
I actually got the email of them asking me to join. It was an easy pass from me before I even saw all the drama
Oof i just got to know about Anilive and im glad that i made a research first T-T Thats really sad but i hope something may change for better cuz thats kinda interesting project but lacks a lot and shouldnt be out yet ;_;
@@thenidielle I agree! Maybe with some changes it'll be better, but things are a little whack as it stands
i just connected the dots that them wanting your model files was probably related to training their alleged rigging (ai) tech
Oh and I like the I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream reference in the thumbnail
commenting to boost the video and help others see this!
All you talents better secure your accounts & everything. Change passwords & emails. Forcibly take control & keep what you got.
As for vol 2 our models are literally transparent pngs so we have those already dl
i can attest, i got a DM from that banned account and I kind of ignored it as I thought it was a bot account..
Tbh I wanted to join Anilive because it was advertised to be a new vtubing app for anyone to use but they say that it wasn’t ready. So I kinda feel like I was cheated on.
May i ask what program is used to make the model move? Its so pretty and smooth ❤️
I was wondering what the random email I got a week ago (October 31st) was about. It looked like a spam email, to be honest.
I made a comment but deleted it because I should get the full story of this first before jumping anywhere, as I don't know of any controversial stuff with ani thing
+Edit*
Thanks Ms for the information from this video, I ain't done yet but I'm learning quite a bit of a side of vtubing I didn't really understand
How do I apply?
If you're interested, there's still a site up for them. You can find it on their Twitter
@@karmunism ah All right thank you so much❤ And sorry about the inconvenience that they gave you🙏🙏
Damn girl, you and other vtubers who had to deal with this... Im not religious but I'll pray for the companies employees who this company slaves away
I hope you're safe since this is really huge deal... ;;
@@otsukareboku I'm perfectly fine thank you for the concern though. Nearing 1 week since quitting and still no response from staff.
Only time will tell, and that's if the choose to address it.
this is actually insane vtuber lore hope those anilive vtubers try a better company or get treated better
24:29 Soul & Mind from ONE, I can recognize that music anywhere

There's a vtuber who i watch whos currently on anilive as her personal persona
2024 is one hell of a year
In all fairness they literally used their mascot to sell nft's and her website would mine crypto on your PC. They also got in hot water for marketing her as a vocaloid without Yamaha's approval
I never heard about any of this, dang. I only saw the drama about needing model data
@@karmunism Yeaaaaaaaah it caused a fuss within the vocaloid scene. I highly recommend people be wary of this company and anything that they get involved in, its always shady and never thought through
Hey I actually may know one of the vtubers who was asked to join AniLive but he declined.
The video title should have been "I joined anilive so you don't have to"
Damn, them not giving a proper response or revealing artists is just screwing over all the existing streamers on the app. Disappointing because I’ve been following the jumpstarters from the beginning. 😔
Hopefully they'll come clean. I have some faith that all of this is a byproduct of poor management and not malicious intent, but only time will tell.
Was this not the app that Ex prism staff worked on and ex prism members streamed on at some point I think I remember Shiki saying she was going to stream on it?
Well the CEO is the founder of prism so... idk but it would check out
@@karmunism ah that would be it I remember them posting on twitter that they were friends with the Anilive staff or something like that a while back
@@karmunism the AniLive page on the Virtual UA-camr Wiki has 9 of the ex-PRISM Project talents having debuted on the app (they also have a 10th listed, but I couldn't find any tweets from them or AniLive concerning their debut, so I'm think a copy&paste error on that one). Those debuts were apparently back in May/June/July, no idea if they are still making content on the app.
frankly I hate that AI art attracts more hate than actually overworked, underpaid artists
**I would like to warn before you read this i am half awake (its 5 am (est))**

(Again idk i you said any of this its 5 am (est) and im getting dressed for school while writing this)
What talent were you before if you don’t mind mea sling?
Unfortunately I don't feel comfortable saying it, as I don't own the IP. Even if the contract is likely illegitimate, I know the identity can potentially be covered under authorized property in the confidentiality section. It's easy to piece together with a little internet sleuthing based on my person experience section, however
@ ahhh I see okay!
what this most like is isn't machine learning, but digital puppetry.

To add to the earlier comment I made, if you want a signal boost for all this, maybe reach out to FalseEyeD?
Good you are doing it. As you want, Anilive will fail and the concept will fall by the wayside. You know, the concept that Twitch and UA-cam should have competitors. I've probably spent more time talking to the lead of development of the app and one of the marketing reps than you since I met with them at offkai. No I didn't talk to Captain.
I remember this
PNGtuber sets that dont try to "mix together" Live2D vtubing and PNGtubing are better than some of the models they offer right now.
I was shocked at the mess everything actually was
The people you used to work with back when you did tik tok streams, right?
Hmm? No, these people have nothing to do with tiktok. This is new
@ oh…boo these people!!!

21:22 ayo I recognise that skeleton guy I saw a bit of his stream on his debut
The AniLive/NEXAS situation has been wild to learn about, and is entertaining in a car crash kind of way. I feel bad for all the talents though behind the screen. I wouldn't be surprised if some people leave the hobby entirely due to it.
