As long as I can remember the 1st thing I look for in the rocks or even better....the driftwood & I am usually able to find a face or animal in the contours especially when I am looking at some larger hardscape and the second I see your middle piece there is a great example !!!!

Does this stand actually make contact around the whole edge for you? I set up a similar rack this weekend and kept running into the issue of the tank not sitting flush with the surface. If you reach under the tank and try to wiggle the particle board does it move?

It does not make contact all the way around nor does it need to. My tanks on actual aquarium stands don't either. For rimmed tanks it is common to just have them supported in the corners. As long as the tank is level it's fine.
