      A friend was raised in Reform Judaism, she and her husband wrote their vows and one of the things they vowed was to 'always play'. I thought that was an awesome thing to note in their vows. Giggling is extremely important. I hope Hadassah and Ze'ev are enjoying wedded life.

      If you read the Bible you will gain a better understanding of how God desires a marriage to be. They have it beautiful because they followed God's commandments. Jesus has so many beautiful illustrations about wedding. He Himself said He is the bridegroom and the church is His bride and He laid down His Life for her. He constantly points to wedding references to help us understand how deeply He loves us. It is super beautiful

    He veils her to see that it's really her, this is derived from the deception Leah and Rachel perpetrated on Jacob. He was supposed to marry Rachel, but Leah was the older, so they put a heavy veil on Leah and she married Jacob. He had to work 7 more years for Rachel's hand. The two constantly fought over Jacob's attention.
    The ketubah, wedding contract, actually includes that the groom has to satisfy his wife in all ways, in addition to providing her with food, clothing, and a roof over her head.
    The broken glass not only "seals the deal," but reminds us of Jerusalem, which has not been totally rebuilt yet. Wedding processions in Jerusalem only include one single instrument (often a flute), to indicate that our happiness is still incomplete.

    Quick correction: the breaking of the glass doesn't make anything legal (the signatures and witnesses in the contract make it so). It is done to remember the destruction of the holy temple, even in the most happy times.

    • @Paelorian
      @Paelorian 6 років тому +10

      From my understanding that's actually a modern reinterpretation and the original symbolism was the breaking of the hymen (loss of virginity). With changing social conventions such frank open discussion of sex is rather taboo and it became more popular to describe it as a pious tradition rooted in Judaism. I do like the sorrowful rememberance idea but I think the more direct virginity symbolism is a lot more likely. Or the real reason may be something else. Also, the purpose of the seclusion period was traditionally to consummate the marriage. When the couple emerged, they'd be fully married.

    I am an Iranian & I love people like you, the lovely family in this clip. I cried a little as I was touched by the beautiful and loving things done throughout the ceremony. My parents & grand parents also went through the same kind of tradition, in the old fashion Iranian style. Watching this touching ceremony reminded me that how good it is to stick with God & family & do the right things. The world outside, has become quite bad & scary. I could feel the light of LOVE among this very lovely & respectful family. The MOTHER OF THE BRIDE looks like an angel 💚 I definitely sensed the great light exuding from this wonderful lady. The bride & her family are so blessed to have her. With all my heart I wish you all the wonderful & kind people, all the best 💚

    What I found extremely enchanting was the sense of "community." Though thought of as a rather strange part of society, these Jews look so united and happy, like there will ALWAYS be someone there to count on, whatever the situation, where ever, when ever. That's probably the strength of tradition in this respect; in a way(depending on your own frame of references,) to be envied...Thank you for sharing this with those of us who are not Jewish and/or Orthodox...rr Normandy

      Judaism is much, much more than a religion, or a group of weird sects living under one roof. Most of us frown upon the orthodoxy, or much worse, the crazy Chassidim. But I will defend the Orthodox and their intolerant ways to the end. Despite the enormous diversity within the Jewish "community" world wide, our support for each other and our brothers and sisters in Israel is indisputable, and we have proven it repeatedly since the founding of the State. The Chassidim may look down their noses at anyone who doesn't fit their mold of Judaism, but me, I figure if you were Jewish enough for Hitler to want to put you into a gas chamber, you're good enough for me.

    I love the wedding ceremony. Not only that, but tradition offers stability, guidelines, nurturing, an expression of love within the primacy of religious faith, planning, community structure. There is also built in respect for the physical body and the experience of sex the meaning of childbirth.

      Islam in not the culture nor the tradition .
      In fact torat, bible and Quran is the holy book from almighty
      We accept Abraham ( peace upon him ) as messenger
      We accept prophet Moses ( peace upon him ) is the messenger
      We accept Jesus ( peace upon him ) is messenger
      The only difference is
      prophet Muhammad ( peace upon him )
      Is the last messenger of almighty god .
      Once you accept prophet Muhammad ( peace upon him )
      then
      There is no difference in Islam and Jews .
      So I love torat and accept this the holy book from god like holy Quran .
      I invite all Jews and Christians brothers and sister to accept Islam and die on imaan ( true faith )
      God give you straight way and enlighten your heart 💓

    That's not what a badeken is for. Badeken comes from Bodek -which means check in hebrew , as in to check that she's the right one. It dates back to Jacob and how his father in law tricked him with leah at his wedding instead of rachel because she was veiled. Since then jewish grooms veil their own brides to make sure it's the right one. ;) weird but fun none the less.

      Rose Kahn yep you've got a good point there.
      they also got wrong the part with the two mothers breaking the dish it's not about making it legal it's just a symbolic gesture but overall they showed Orthodoxy in a positive light by the way I don't think the groom veiling the bride is weird I think it's very romantic! that's from a guy's perspective

      Badeken is a Yiddish word. It does not come from the word bodek. I don't know if Sefardim have badekens but if they do, I guarantee you they dont use the word badeken. Askenazim have badekens, which means to cover, to remind us that a Jewish women, especially a married one, is supposed as modest as Rivka, our Matriarch who covered her face when she saw Yitchok.

    • @meme-bd5hk
      @meme-bd5hk 6 років тому +6

      Rose Kahn, you state "That's not what a badeken is for. Badeken comes from Bodek -which means check in hebrew , as in to check that she's the right one. It dates back to Jacob and how his father in law tricked him with leah at his wedding instead of rachel because she was veiled. Since then jewish grooms veil their own brides to make sure it's the right one" My response, your reason is correct but your source word is not. The word badecken is Yiddish. It means "to cover". But as you said, the face is covered by the groom himself for the reason you described which relates to Yaakov and Layah. (Jacob and Leah) One other point, under the Chuppah the chusun (groom) actually takes a quick peek at his kallah (bride) just to be sure it's really her. The veil used by the kallah in the video at this wedding was kind of strange since it was see through. The whole point of the veil is to NOT see through. My kallah's veil was so thick that she had to be led because she literally could not see through the veil.

      Leonardo's Truth how are Mormons polytheist? Do you mean polygamists?
      The mainstream mormons “technically” don’t practice that anymore, since it prevented Utah from becoming a state. The FLDS still practice it, which is why everyone in the two twin towns (Hildale and Colorado City) are related.
