I'm that 87 year old retired sailor, which commented on Jack's being a sailor. Been watching you guys for only about 6 months, wishing I had been doing it a lot longer. Absolutely love it! Looking forward to the crossing through the eyes and lens of Zatara's crew. Stay safe and wishing you guys fair winds, smooth sailing and following seas................
Hi all. Just wanted to give a little lettuce advice to Renee. If you can find “live” lettuce and you keep the roots wet, it will keep for weeks and I mean weeks. Otherwise, you don’t want to keep it dry because lettuce is made mainly of water so keeping it wet is imperative. I separate the leaves, wash them and put them between paper towels. Wet the whole bunch with a shake of water and put it all into a plastic bag in the fridge. With either of these two methods you will have crispy lettuce for way longer than three days!
I don’t understand why they don’t just grow it on the windowsills. They’ll have fresh lettuce, herbs, mint anytime. All you do it scrape some seeds in the top of the dirt & keep it moist. Couldn’t be more easy.
I think Gloria has been my favorite of all the extra crew members you had on. She should come back if she wanted to. Happy New Year where ever you guys are now.
Keith is probably the most capable sailor/engineer/navigator/mechanic on the sea. I can't imagine you and your family being in any safer hands. You also have 3 strong kids to help him get you across the Ocean. You're more prepared to cross the Atlantic than the Titanic, Bon Voyage and a happy New Year Rene.😉
Very clever use of the 12 days of Christmas. Loving the story lines as the kids are reaching some big decisions and your boat guests are having to make many of the same decisions.
Can't beleive how top of the chart Renee has become as a videographer over the years. That was another gem Renee. Thank you. Marc from Montréal, Canada.
Hi beautiful family. I'm Mike from south Africa and really love your channel and I really love the cooking as well, you guys rock I wish I had parents like you. Stay safe.
A tip regarding the lettuce, i fry mine that is almost done. Fry it with tomatoes, onions, green, red, yellow pepper. Add some fried chicken strips and sauce. Great for tortillas
Wow, another well-done video. 27 minutes goes by so fast when you are enjoying the show. It is also comforting to watch the view counter click up, when the video was only posted 3 hours ago. Makes you realize how many are keeping up with your travels and always wanting more.
I've been sailing away with you guys for some time and the person who, in my opinion, has shown the greatest transformative growth is Finn. Transforming takes time and energy and you're doing a great job Finn, as are all the kids.
The sucky part of this is that we are in Michigan. This time of the year our 50' Hatteras is tucked away in winter storage. 14 weeks until boat launch. I'm thinking it's time to consider moving our gal to a southern saltwater slip somewhere in South Carolina or Georgia.
We cruise at about 9.5 knots onboard our Hatteras. I sailed when I was young. Maybe its time to return to my roots and rediscover sailing. Bluewater cruising has an appeal.
Finn doesn't look depressed... I see an artist/musician who's thoughts are frequently scanning the horizons of his own mind in search of the next perfect note in his song of life.
I find myself getting emotional during the moments when Glory departs, the sailing starts, and the closing song plays in the video. You guys all are living your dream. Wishing you a safe crossing and a Happy New Year!
Have you tried tinfoil on the lettuce? 2 layers, press tight to the lettuce. Works at home, I don’t bother on the road. I enjoyed the vibe of this video, probably my fave you’ve ever put out over the years.
Night Vision Monocular - Have you considered having one? They are very affordable now, a good Bushnell is less than $300us. Great for when you pull into an Anchorage at night... And nice to have when looking out for pirates 🎉
I was excited to see that Luke joined you for the crossing. What a great choice for you and him! Great video! Im so glad you are all safe on your journey. By now you surely have made land. Can’t wait for more about your crossing and getting into your location.
Great to see a new series, I worked at sea as a Marine Engineer for 44 years( last 20 years as Chief. Ended up 76 Countries and around 260 ports. Love watching because you have visited many including a few in the Pacific.
Season 8! Unbelievable. Congratulations, family. The boat looks great and so does the crew. Thanks for allowing me to sail with you from my sofa. Bon voyage!
Finn is doing just fine for a young man his age who has lived an exceptionally different life than the average American boy. He loves his family he has great compassion for others and is one of the most artistically creative young people on UA-cam. If you've ever been a teenager or in your 20s you know the massive emotional roller coaster growing up is. Finn's creativity alone will always serve him well. A bright young man well on his way to a beautiful future I have no doubt.
A tip for bananas, you could peel them cut them up about 1 or 2 inches and put them in the freezer, they would last very long in the freezer. Great for smoothies
Keith is such a wonderful man...A big lovable Bear of a man with a Teddy bear heart...amazing human....lucky for his kids and wife and friends....and us
What a beautiful sight, Zatara under sail! There may be windmills on Finn's horizon...he's gearing up. Good on you, Finn. Good on you all! Love your 12 Days of Christmas.
Excellent video. I surely understand the mental prep needed. Anyone crossing an ocean in a sailboat has to have courage and a sense of adventure. Love you guys
I like the way your channel explains all small details about the sailing, and the organized the filming editing , and of course the best channel reporter Rene,
Hi from Arizona. Wishing you a safe passage across the Atlantic. I haven't seen anybody wearing those man overboard devices lately, the Atlantic is definitely the place I'd wear one. Good luck, good winds, and a Merry Christmas to all.
This family💓💖🥰😍 L💙ve this video, but Rene, the ending was sweet.🤗 Watching the end a few times and singing along. Grateful your crossing was so successful.🙌✝️💓
Its so crazy i just noticed around the 22 minute mark just before it how much it must be a pain in the ass to edit this you do so so flawlessly when Keith was explaining following seas 🌊 it took 3 hrs the ttd was at 316 hrs then at the end for the last couple of words it was at 313 hrs GREAT JOB THANK YOU FOR WORKING SO HARD TO BRING US A HALF HOUR OF YOUR JOURNEYS THANK YOU
This video was completely, totally enjoyable and one of the best of late. Where to start? Loved the shots of people leaving the boat, arriving to the boat, preps, narration of sail replacement and on and on. Luke is an old friend who seems would fit in anywhere like a glove. His hair? Because its Luke, accept but really? Too much. More hair than my Afghan hound!! All concentrated on his head. Addressing comments about Finn. Sort of glossed over but no problem, none of our business. Keith, great explanation of the winds and what to expect on the crossing. The music while showing distant shots of the boat were spot on. Beautiful boat and have always loved the wood interior. So warm but awhile back, Keith said he would comment on the manufacturer once back into the states. Waiting for it. Not difficult to project his negative feelings. Renee, you prepare more attractive meals on that boat than most could prepare in a full-blown land-based kitchen. You are simply a mom of the highest order. I have always wondered. When crossing in small boats like yours, do you ever worry about the so-called rogue waves we read about. Have you ever seen anything approaching that? Thank you for this and all the vids. Misty eyed when Keith recited the pledge in front of the flag. God bless America and safe travels home.
Renee, you just described how I felt before most of my full-mission flights in the Air Force. You're right: We prep 'till we drop, hopefully getting a solid eight hours of sleep before the mission. Stress-reducer: Having a Communication Emergency Plan posted next to the VHF Marine Radio. Another stress-reducer: Drills for every contingency (various sails malfunction, man overboard, abandon ship, striking an object/ship, taking on water, rudder/engine failure, etc.). Keith: Doing is an essential part of learning. By all means, supervise, but let the kids do the work!
Hey Finn, if you ever feel down and depressed, is a great time for you to pick up that guitar and write another great song. Use your head, and write some lyrics for you new song. I"m sure you will come out way ahead, and have another great tune!!! Don't forget to share! For the family I hope you guys the best trip for the 2300 miles you have to succeed! Wish you and your family nothing but the best.. thank you for putting this out there. Hugz!
When your in the galley you can really tell how much you get rocked around . You can see the ocean through the window and how the horizon appears then disappears .
Hello from Oklahoma!! Happy to see your crossing is going well!! I’ve been praying for a safe crossing for you all!! Our Lord Jesus Christ is our protector so believing for a complete wonderful fun crossing for your whole crew!! ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Keith started playing one of my favorite guitars songs, and I just wanted to join in "... Saying I love you is not the words I want to hear from you...." And, I loved the captain's debrief I'm a complete nerd, and this fed my soul. I hope that current, wind, and seas stay with you! Smooth sailing - I appreciate your adventures - thank you for sharing them!!
Letts GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I WAIT FOR THIS EVERY WEEK !!!!!! MY DREAM IS TO ONE DAY DO WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE IM ONLY 22 SO THERE IS STILL SOME TIME!!! DONT STOP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING!!!!!!!!
Renee: I bought a Hawkins pressure cooker last year and have been enjoying it tremendously. It'd cook your stew in less than an hour! Zero electronics so all mechanical. Bullet-proof. Any heat source, 2-3 cans of sterno. Good on the sugar reduction! At 60, I discovered I should have eliminated all sugar back when I was 50. We humans just do not fare well on it. Total carbohydrates per meal should be kept below 50 per meal, 150 carbs/day, with normal consumption of healthy protein and healthy fats and oils. Salads: You can submerge a salad under saline, shake to remove air, and press it down before capping and freezing it. They'll keep for months. You just have let the ice melt and fish out the salad.
Nothing like brand new crackly sails! They look great! Tip - When it's so light, try putting your jib blocks further foward to put some more pressure on the leech. It will give you better drive. As the wind increases, bring the blocks back to let the leech twist off and spill air.
I loved the banter between Glory & Keith. Please get her back on the boat for the last leg. That casserole looked amazing Renee. Love those “lazy chef” meals just thrown together. Cream of chicken soup goes good too in those sort of crockpot meals. I bet the boat smelled amazing.
No “amen” isn’t stupid Renee. We pray before a long passage. And that may not be popular on youtube. And I rem one night we were in a bad storm. Wind against tide, tail of a hurricane. Silence on board. One crew member atheist. Everyone hanging on. And after a few hours sunrise and wind calming down… I asked the atheist friend what were you thinking as you were do quiet.. his response: “I was praying”… Btw I know this is behind… so happy new year!
Great video! I had to chuckle at the choice of music for the scene in the intro of you starting out on the crossing. Perfect! Its so hard to tell the height of the seas on camera. I did see one person who put the camera down on the rail. Its still not the same, but much better perspective to see how big it really is. You might give it a try next time you are in big seas. Great last scene. Fair seas you guys.
Ive been dealing with depression and anxiety for a few years now already and im not gonna lie I was getting worried about Finn for a little while. I hope he really is ok and doing well.
A bright young man well on his way to a beautiful future. That's not to say that there will not be emotionally difficult times as there are for anyone, but indeed his creativity gives him many options to immerse himself in - photography and cinematography, video editing, songwriting and guitar playing not to mention his natural gift of telling a story and absolutely engaging his audience. Throughout my life I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by very creative people and to immerse myself in my own creativity. I highly recommend to anyone that is suffering with depression to find a hobby, to find a passion where you can release a creative spirit within yourself.
Thanks Doctor! But you don't know what we're going through. Hobbies are not a solution to depression. But thanks for trying. Therapy is the way to go and if needed medication helps a lot. Take it from me ive been on Sertraline for a long time if it wasn't or it Ide be in a worse situation right now. But thankfully im doing very well now. @@redjupiter2
Happy New Year Zatara! Did you know that just like avocados you can store just ripe bananas in the frig? They keep for much longer than unrefrigerated. The skin will darken but the fruit stops ripening and stays firm for up to 2 weeks. The only difference is eating a cold banana vs a room temp banana. This enables you to buy more bananas for a passage. 🍌 🍌 🍌 🍌 🍌
saw it on Glorys stories but my gosh when Keith cried, it hit me so hard.. That's a lifetime connection with this girl and family.
Watching Glory say goodbye made ME cry...
Keith saying bye to glory had me in the feels 🥹

Wouldn’t it be cool to have a countertop mini greenhouse house with lighting to grow lettuce continuously?
Smooth seas and beam winds!
I think Gloria has been my favorite of all the extra crew members you had on. She should come back if she wanted to. Happy New Year where ever you guys are now.

I really liked the 12 Days of Sea Life! Happy New Year Zatara!
Yep - that was good. "59th Thumbs Up"
6:07 damn they´re not just sailing the globe, now they´re sailing into the future

Yes, they need to watch out for those pesky icebergs! You never know with all this global warming!! 😊
Keith’s motto: will work for nachos
Just said to my son, if Keith goes overboard they are stuffed. My son said, don't worry Mom, they will save him. They practice rescue.😃
He sure is an amazing all rounder, really inspirational for an older guy like me 👍
I would trust this whole crew
Can't believe we're into season 8! I live vicariously through you guys. Continue living your dream! Fair winds.
Same. Been watching since the beginning.
I'm loving the dramatic music while your sailing... Feels like I'm watching a movie segment. Looking forward to this new season!
That was a beautiful episode well done Rene!!

I am super impressed about the cooking without a gimbaled stove. It's a must have on our boat. BRAVO ZULU!
Jack's last video was one of his best presentations, but mama still kicks butt. She remains at the top.

The 12 days clip was EXCELLENT Renee!

Rene, you killed it with the 12-days of Christmas!
Your music has become noticeably better. Rock on!
The waves look rough. You have a good boat, great Captain and a very experience crew. You all will do fine on the crossing.
