BBC2 @60... Will The BBC Celebrate?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лют 2024
- The time draws near... THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY of BBC TWO is almost here! But just how are the BBC going to celebrate the occasion?
In the past some milestones they've gone all out on, and others they've barely done anything at all... so how will 60 years fare? Will we get a new commemorative documentary? Some new special idents, or some old classics put back into rotation? The possibilities are there... but will the BBC take them?

Fun Fact: Terry Wogan Auditioned to be BBC2 Announcer in 1965 but he got rejected because he was too Irish
For BBC2 merchandise, all I want is a real version of the toy fluffy "dog" 2 that yips and flips. IT'S TOO CUTE NOT TO SELL!
contact bbc studios
I don’t know if they will bother celebrating BBC Two’s 60th anniversary judging by what is happening right now at the BBC, but we’ll see how it goes.
I think it would be great if they bring back a selection of the 90’s idents, the 60’s cube, the 70’s discs, the computer-animated ident from 1979, the Personality 2’s and don’t forget Windows of the World. That was a truly great era for the channel.
Also, I don’t know if you know, but BBC Two did bring back an ident from the Personality 2 era somewhere around 2015 or 2016, which was Christmas 2002.
the guy who was on the phone while reporting the bbc2 power failure when it was attempting to launch in 1964 called bbc one "channel 1" which probably influenced the people who were naming channel four television
BBC2 was only available in London in 1964
Absolutely agree with having a special ident at the very least! Big yes to merch too 🎉❤
For the 50th anniversary they did a panel show called All About Two that had teams answering questions about the history and programmes of BBC2
Harry (Enfield) and Paul (Whitehouse) also did a spoof documentary called The Story of The 2's which parodied the programming that had aired across the 50 years - the full show isn't on any streaming platform or YT but various clips of it are on here - my fave is the one where they spoof various panel shows
I have the Harry and Paul show in full. Couldn't show it now!
"Harry & Paul's Story of the 2s" used to be on UA-cam in full. Guess it's not anymore. Too bad... it was brilliant.
I remember there was another big anniversary event for the first two BBC channels in Northern Ireland, where they showcased various classic idents from those channels, several of which were upscaled to meet the viewing standards of 2012.
Great video, Adam. 1989 saw BBC2 celebrate its 25th birthday. There was a week of specials from The Late Show, archive material such as Jazz 625, Theatre 625 (featuring a young Judi Dench) comedy repeats such as Yes Minister and Not the Nine o'clock News. French and Saunders starred in a 25th birthday special, which coincided with their own 10th anniversary as a double act.
They repeated the TV version of Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy as well.
I'd like it if they brought back the Test Card for the 60th. It was first broadcast on BBC 2.
For birthday idents i want 3, 2 curves, 1 similar to the 50th anniversary one. Also bring back the twos from 1991-2018 for a month and then either switch back to the curve or do something new
Fun Fact , They did
I totally agree with you Adam.
I remember the 1986 ident. My memory of it is sitting down to watch the kids programme You and Me. (I was 7 years old at the time)
I really enjoyed the comedy specials they aired for the 50th in 2014 so I hope they will do something similar this year.
Request: Ulster TV @50… Celebrating… 50 Years Of Ulster
The 90's BBC 2 Idents but the Central Number is 6 instead.
Maybe they should revive the 2001 Personality Robot 2s idents for the occasion since they reused the 90s idents last decade.
I hope they release the classic idents with the current BBC logo on them.
If we could get a BBC 2 piece of merchandise I’d love to own a Supreme Dalek BBC 2 cause that would be really cool
Regarding merchandise (even though I find it unlikely), I'd love it if BBC did what ITV did for their library and release a BBC 2 60th DVD/Blu-Ray, showcasing several programmes from comedies to drama to childrens programmes.
On the date, I find it likely that the BBC will just repeat some programmes with the idents used on the 50th (which did include the ones prior to 1991) and most likely the 50th documentaries like 50 Years of BBC 2 Comedy.
In 1974, I have just found out that The Best of Wheelbase was actually aired later that tenth anniversary evening which looked at motoring on television over the channel's 10-year history...
Get the cake for bbc two
i reckon they could do just some different idents but thats about it would be cool if they did something like a schedule of old landmark tv shows that were shown on BBC 2
Wow 60 BBC 2 2024 good if they doing updates BBC 2 ident Adam thanks 👍
Thanks Adam
Shame we won’t get a Top Gear special. That’s probably the channel’s most successful programme to date.
I remember back in 2020 I was planning on making a fanmade BBC Two ident for this year
Maybe they should remaster the old BBC2 idents from 1991-2001.
i doubt it : they didnt have any documentaries celebrating their 100th, or the 50th anniversary of Radio 1, (the only thing they did for R1 was they set up a special DAB station for a couple of days and played a selection of old shows). Quite sad
I really hope that BBC Two will create some new idents plus air some new programmes and old ones from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc. I know this may seem odd but when it reaches April, Could you do a tier list of all the Personality 2’s from 2001-2007. Again, you don’t have to ok, it’s your life. Anyway, this was a great video and we can only hope BBC Two stays on TV screens for another 60 years. Great video Adam.👍😀👍👌
I bet it will, it’s been such a long year!
Can't wait other than BBC 100!
Also, the following day in April 1974, News Review at 6.15pm had: 21 April 1964 to 21 April 1974. This week, instead of looking at the world news of the week, we are reviewing some of the best moments from ten years of special reports on the Quieter Side of the Decade Narrator RICHARD WHITMORE
Presenter BILL NORTHWOOD
I would be very surprised if they didn't mark the occasion.
Call My Bluff should be brought back...
the Happy birthday bbc 2 doc is on the internet archive, only the 4 part version
Uploaded by myself, I've never recorded the 2004 version though.
BBC 2 is just a few months younger than me. I remember in the late 60's when my father got a rented colour TV at the time it was £7 per month which was a lot for a rented TV at the time. When my father wanted to buy is own colour TV at the end of the 70's the company didn't want the TV back so he sold it for £10. He wanted one with a wired remote but my mother told him to pay the extra for one that wasn't wired.
The BBC is saying they've run out of money but seem to find the money for new buildings in Birmingham so they cannot be that skint if they can spend millions on celebrating another milestone birthday.
I’d love some merch - anything that celebrates it would be good because I was quite disappointed with the BBC 100 (apart from QI)
BBC 2
I'm sure they did recreate some of the older BBC2 logos you're showing at 8:42 . I can remember BBC2 repeating old sitcoms on weekday afternoons and they used old idents before each episode and they looked too good to be old recordings. It could easily have been 10 years ago, so maybe there were done for the 50th anniversary and BBC2 HD existed then, so if they were recreations they must have been done in HD.
I think they'll celebrate, why wouldn't they
Adam can you cover about all the Hits Radio Stations apart from the Scotland ones changing their names to Hits Radio please?
Personally 2 might come on.
I’ve just checked my old tv collection and I still have a copy of bbc 2 night celebrating 40 years, along with a few other tv history documtnysries. They were recorded on a dvd recorder but, unfortunately, the formatting is a bit strange. They were recorded in 16:9 but they display in 4:3.
Are they of any use to you? I no longer have a computer but I should be able to lend one for long enough to transfer them to a memory stick. It may take me a week or 2 though.
They would absolutely be of use, especially the 40 years doc! Would you be able to send those over via email transfer? How big is the file?
@@AdamMartyn they are massive do the best way would be a memory stick. I’ve message you on x.
They should take the curves idents and have the screen partitioned by different coloured diamonds
Hi!!!
BBC2 should just show "Harry & Paul's Story of the 2s," and be done with it.
BBC Two needs a funding boost, daytime and off peak is just repeats of repeats, news and politics live most of the time.
At 60 of the 2’s.
They should bring back the 2s
Happy birthday bbc 2 . Make better idents for the modern day.
I really don't think theyll celebrate
Reason: they wont celebrate CBBC's 40th anniversary, and didnt celebrate the CBBC channel's 20th anniversary, so i really don't think theyll celebrate BBC Two's 60th
CBBC and CBeebies programmings would move to BBC Two in 2025
Is it BBC two week here?
id love a film like drwho advencher in time and space
It's a pity their biggest viewing figures the 18.5 million that watched the 1985 world snooker final will never be equalled or bettered.
Adam I am surprised that you are ignoring the recent news about the BBC Scotland channel.......
2nd!
The answer Adam is no - Channel 4 turned 40 in 2022 and the channel literally ignored it. BBC 2 is now dustbin for BBC repeats. Take a look at a typical weekday schedule. 6am until 6pm is mostly repeats. Apart from simulcasts of BBC News and some coverage from parliament, they have nothing else of worth on it during the day. The channel has been destroyed by terrible management and scheduling.
Just here to stop the "first" comments
I don't understand those people, am I missing something, do they get a prize or something or just a tad sad?
@@pjukthey're just sad and want attention 🙄
You,mate are a legend
That’s just another way of saying ‘first’. I have seen several people doing this exact gig in several comment sections.
@@edcola6671exactly, sometimes ive seen people saying shit such as “stopping kids from saying first” on videos where absolutely no one commented “first”.
They never celebrated doctor who 60th anniversary plus i want bbc two remote cibyrol cars two
Yes but Doctor Who is a TV show, BBC Two is a terrestrial TV channel
Funny that my public broadscaster is 66 year old our second public broadcaster channel is 55 years old but brits don´t appreciate the bbc and hate the tv license a lot and you guys can opt out and don´t even have ads, although not as much like before you don´t realize the soft power you guys have just like american, no wonder we say you are the ´usa´ of europe.
Can we just bring back the Martin Lambie Nairn Idents, coz the current ones suck
Martin Lambie Nairn
@@DavidDoom95Just Edited it, had a bit of a Brain fart lol
The BBC will celebrate the 60th anniversary of BBC2 by announcing the closure of BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4…
The problem is that there are so many anniversaries that if the BBC celebrated them all then it would become ridiculous. We've already had the "big one", the centenary of the BBC, and in the next few years we'll have the 25th anniversary of BBC3, BBC4, Cbeebies and CBBC (if they all survive that long), the 30th anniversary of the BBC News Channel, the 60th anniversary of Radio 1 and BBC Local Radio, not to mention the anniversaries of individual programmes, such as the 70th anniversaries of Panaroma and Blue Peter!
The BBC and all commercial stations are seeing viewing figures plummet like a lead balloon, people are more in to on demand content like Netflix and other streaming services. If the TV licence isn't scrapped on 1/1/2028 then I can see load of people cancelling, if not in March 2024 and taking out a new licence for £159 and cancelling in 2025 when they have to pay £169.50.
Absolutely not bbc necer celebrating anything of channels maybe a announce but nothings to celebrate maybe internal operations maybe a bithcake of bbc 2 whuch thry wint share but maybe a thing in bbc news but no major celebrations like no ident documentary or nothing to shout about
