  • The Olympic Peninsula has quickly become one of our very favorite overlanding destinations in Washington State.
This year we're back, and in this video our plans change ... due to a rare Pacific Northwest heat wave set to shatter records.
Join us as we explore near the Wynoochie River and find the PERFECT spot to cool off!

Yeah, we lucked out with that spot for sure. I was pretty surprised with how well that nightlapse turned out. Even managed to catch the northern lights!

What a great spot! Definitely the key to truly enjoyable overlanding is flexibility. I typically leave with a general idea of what I want to do but let the trip take me where it will. Stop & smell the roses so to speak. Really nice footage. I like the addition of the maps and the music is pleasant & relaxing. Really nice videos to watch. You'll know whenever I'm eating at work from the comments...

Finding a spot to camp by a lake or river was definitely no small task. It seems like we always find ourselves on the Olympic Peninsula during a heat wave .... and it seems like EVERYONE flees the city to find a spot near water on the Peninsula. But this year ... we managed to pull it off!

I have been on that same riverbank and made a video too lol. There is a great river spot past the falls, just beyond the next bridge.

Haha. Small world! Good to know about the other spot. I'll have to remember that for next time! That area is a little too crowded for my liking, but at least the swimming hole we found in the river was quiet!

@@WheretoNextOverland agreed. The other spot is for high clearance 4x4. Only room for one group, with a small river crossing to a small river island. If you find my video a few months back I show it near the end.

That little group of spots is great. I wish they weren't on the other side of the gate they close in October-April. Hopefully the deer flies weren't too bad.

Omg im going camping there in 2 weeks, hopefully we are able to get some spots similar to the 2nd spot you showed. Never been there, do you think a dual-sport motorcycle will have trouble traversing the terrain? My main concern are steep climbs/drops with low traction loose sand, however the dry creek beds/rock gardens shouldnt be a problem.

I really wish you wouldn't blow up these lesser known spots. They can't handle the extra pressure. We need to keep the crowds to the more well-known established areas that have already been destroyed by big populations

I can understand where you're coming from. I try to strike a balance between explaining where we are without providing exact locations or details. As a rule, I never give out coordinates to campsites publicly for this reason.
For what it's worth, the spot in this video was probably the busiest, most crowded dispersed camping area we stayed at all year. This area got blown up WELL before we made this video. If anything, I feel like one falls firmly into the more well-known established areas that you mention in your comment.
But again, I can understand where you're coming from on this.
