  • February 8, 2023 - Watch several ship wakes roll in onto North Beach on a calm evening. The wakes were created by a large ship that sailed under the Harbor Bridge and into the Port of Corpus Christi's Inner Harbor.
Ships wakes like these, along with onshore winds that produce chop in the bay, both contribute to the continual problem of beach erosion that occurs on the south end of North Beach near the USS Lexington.
The government's response has historically been to bring in tens of thousands of cubic feet of sand from other sources to rebuild the beach. A more sustainable solution being proposed is to build a series of rocky breakwaters running parallel to shore about 1,500 feet off the beach to protect the shoreline from the destructive waves and wakes.
