Being an electrician for the past 8 years while being an avid mountain biker for 10+, I think short rides in the rain on most e-bikes is relatively safe. Almost every e-bike I've seen has the main components (motor, controller, battery) in some type of encasement. Electrical damage only occurs once water makes contact with electrical current. At the end of the day though, it's still risky to ride in wet conditions period. Water has a funny way of finding it's way in to places it doesn't need to be. I personally just ride a regular bike on rainy days, just one less thing to worry about. E-bikes aren't cheap, neither is the maintenance on them.
Glad you made it but we highly recommend against doing this again. The effects are noticeable immediately but water in the hub causes quiet rust to build up and causing hub motor issues in the future.
Use a blob on your thumbs or fingers to push window mastic into the backs of the connections where the wires go into the plastic making sure all gaps are full of the white stuff..... It prevents all water entering into the rear of the terminals and I mean all water when it's set dry it turns to a nice rubber seal. Works a treat.
I rode my E-Bike (Bosch) over 60 kilometers right through an intense rain shower last year. I was nearly afraid to drown in the rain, water was everywhere. After i arrived home, i emptied my boots, about half a Liter in each came out. And my E-Bike? It went on functioning well since then...
I drive my 21 year old truck, when it rains. My bike lives inside with me. I won't even wash it anymore, just wipe it down. I live by miles's of open desert dirt roads and trails. I have about 1 mile on my new ebike. I'm not riding because it's been raining. A year of riding 700 miles last year, Ebikes don't like water. Brand new, and it's ready for spring.
Omg no way! Wow! That's super incredible! How amazing! You're first ebike! Like a teenagers firs car! Simply amazing! Can't express it enough! 🎉 👏. 👏. 👏... 👏 🖕
@@Smashing_Bumpkin I love it 💯 I bought the Juiced Ripcurrent S. I am big guy and the bike has tons of power. Best investment I have made in years. I have 810 miles on it now. I highly recommend buying an Ebike that is best for your style. So much fun, and great exercise.
Funny I ride my aerial rider 52 V through the rain, snow, sleet, and it’s even been in -60 below zero weather here in North Dakota with 3 feet of snow on the road and I’ve been doing this since 2021 and never had one issue I ride that bike every single day 5 miles to work and 5 miles home. It has 7800 miles on it and all I’ve done is change three sets of tires and five sets of break shoes that’s it.
I have a 2019 Scrambler that never saw rain. The Bafang motor rusted and froze from being Stored outdoors under cover. Moisture in air mixed with uncoated iron magnets inside motor. Motor does not have any gaskets and is open to ambient moisture. Store inside dry area! Otherwise, an Awesome bike 👍
Sage advice. I see people leaving expensive ebikes uncovered when it snows and rains here. Rain is a ruiner of nice ebikes, mine lives inside with me. Plus it cuts down on theft.
Never will i ride mine in the rain, or wash it. Wiping it sometimes, who cares, its a pollution free tool to me. I use mine for shopping. No gas, no oil, i dont waste fuel driving my truck. Im over 65.
What about the freezing cold winter months? Could the battery and electric components malfunction during the freeze weather? Also what about the summer months when it's in the 90s °F?
Please avoid swerving out of the way to avoid puddles or sudden swerves when going fast in the rain. I slid and fell on my shoulder and ribcage have been in pain, I got bad scrapes on my arm and legs...please be safe.

I live in Florida and rain can appear out of nowhere. If it’s parked while I’m dining out and it starts to pour is it going to get messed up? And do they make rain covers for e-bikes? As you can probably tell, I’m a noob to all of this
Yesterday I rode my bike in rain and today when I started it, it stopped working. I don’t what I should do. When I try to increase the speed through the controller, it goes to zero immediately. I don’t know what I should do. Please give me some insights on this issue!
Thanks for info on rain. I have 4 rip currents. First one that shipped has very loud squeaky brakes right out of 5e box. I emailed support immediately and then 3 more times and received no support. What do I do about squeaky brakes? The brake was brand new and has about 35 miles on the bike.
Hey 👋 Sorry to hear that, Send us a direct message on Facebook or Instagram with your email and order number, we can follow up with support and have them reach out.
New brakes on bikes squeak sometimes. Hit it with some break cleaner in case there is any oil on the pads or the disc. That's what I've been told before. I was also told as the bike is ridden more the brakes should stop squeaking. This is only my opinion and should not be taken as advice.
Hey 👋 Great question! Same rules apply, but if the temperature is freezing you may experience some range drop out. Check out our video on winter maintenance ua-cam.com/video/3wQp2_rtC38/v-deo.html&JuicedBikes&
Hey 👋 Yes, just expect a little range drop out in below freezing temps. Here is a video on Winter Riding and Storage Tips ua-cam.com/video/3wQp2_rtC38/v-deo.html&JuicedBikes&
not really as the rain can hit the battery and other components. If you go the turn on switch at the top of the battery rain can get int there and cause the battery not to work.
Silicon tape for controllers, brake levers, battery and connections - works a treat
Thank you

I rode through a puddle that was deeper than i thought the water got about half way up the motor and it still works just fine

My lord that is unequivocally freaking busted af
Miraculous. Mine got rained on several times, THEN died. Just had to replace the hub drive (controls).

@@TacoLover1 that’s great to hear. I ordered my first electric bike today. Should be here within a few days hopefully. Ride safe 😁

Just ordered a poncho that covers rider and most of the bike. $20. Hopefully this helps

Great feedback! Condensation can be a killer

I'm less concerned about the battery, due to access to buying a cover. The LCD can be plastic wrapped even. But the motor is openly exposed
Yup.
Yes you can do it most weeks living in the UK.
Can you ride an ebike in an ice Storm?
Yes, but you can't breath as I found out two weeks ago.
I don't ride in the rain if I can help it, just because it's safer not to any way you look at it.
Should you lube or grease the chain and sprockets after riding in the rain and wiping it down?
I believe the most concern I have is water getting in the tire motors, and rusting them.
I always have a regular non electric mountain bike in my garage just in case the weather changes.
Always good to have a back up
I keep my ebike in the storage during the length of monsoon. I take out my single speed manual bike for under 5km distances. Prefer public transport.
If you ride your e-bike on the beach how do you clean the saltwater off?

It depends I guess. But for me it just charges much much slower.
I suggest you charge indoors where it’s warmer. Still usable though.

Gotrax ebe1 folding ebike, Is this water proof, is it ok to use it on a light rain, i just bought mine and its 3 days old

Driving home with the bike on my rack, I drove through a down pour. ,, Do they have bike covers for bike racks ?
Yes. They're called tarps.
Yes, you can search for waterproof bike covers but when in doubt a tarp and bungees work great
@@tommack8650 ok funny guy but tarps blow off at freeway speeds. A fitted cover was what I had in mind
@@hookedonfishing.6021just strap it down, ratchet straps work, bungees work, don’t be a pissant just make it work
Well done Juiced

Can you ride a e bike in a hurricane or 🌪??? Seriously is a bike cover good enough if you have to leave it outside?
Hey 👋 Every owner should use their best judgement when it comes to conditions, you know when the wind and rain are too rough to weather.
Mine lives inside with me when I'm not riding it. Batteries hate very cold weather, plus someone has to get past me to steal it. Not happening.
It's saying. Can we use our laptop in the rain videos.
Why didnt they seal the battery waterproof?
Some dude rode his ebike in the river the other day up to the battery around here.
Some say he's still riding.....
Thanks for the video and info 🙂🙃✌️👍.

Yes! You can search for waterproof bike covers or e-bike covers and there. are options out there.
Get one of those "emergency ponchos" that fold up real small and are light.
