this is 1 of my takes
depending on your view of things Lyrium is in fact blood magic.
since Lyrium is said to be the blood of Titians the effects of Lyrium are consistent with the principles of blood magic in using someone elses blood as the price for spells.

I feel like the Avvar have the most progressive and practical method of magical education. I think one of the shamans said something like "Who is better than understanding magic than a spirit" they don't treat their mages much different than anyone else in their culture, and they're just another part of the whole of their community. Whereas, a lot of the other cultures in thedas treat magic as either dangerous, or something to grant you power of others.

Keep up the great work with the series man. You're by and far the best source of Lore for Dragon Age, diving far more in depth with the meaning/symbolism of each source, I've found on UA-cam. It's suprising you haven't blown up more, but once DA4 drops and the hype on the series swells I am sure you will too, thanks for the great video.

I absolutely love the work you put into these videos. I feel as if I'm sitting in a university in Thedas, being taught everything about the world and beyond. The way you refer to the "sources" is a cool because obviously, this lecture is happening after the breach has been closed and we have gotten more information on the fade, the ancient elves and so and so forth. I can't help but get a bit of a chill whenever I hear "unknown sources" when most of the time, the source is of course the inquisition.

I've always wondered the extent of what magic can do in Thedas. Like in Origins there's a senior enchanter that says his eyes are going and the Warden says magic could help, and he says "not any magic i'd be caught doing". So can magic be used to cure blindness? Or any other disability for that matter?

That reminds me of what Kremisius Aclassi said in Inquisition, where he said that he has no interest in using a certain kind of magic to physically alter his form as part of his transition. It brings up an idea that magic used to permanently alter your body is either forbidden or so powerful it's incredibly dangerous.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I'd like to note a few things about the Fade.
As context, I'm a huge Lovecraft fan and I've noticed a number of Lovecraft influences within the series. I believe the Fade is a manifestation of one such influence.
I believe the Fade was inspired by the Dreamlands of Dream Quest of Kadath. Both are alternate realms parallel to the physical world. Both are realms that can offer immortality and nearly limitless power to those who know how to tap into it. Both are realms that one's mind is projected into while sleeping. Both realms house a great city for the God(s) - The Golden/Black City for DA and the Home of the Gods of Earth for DQoK. Both these cities have been abandoned, the Golden City for mysterious reasons, the Home of the Gods because Randalph Carter dreamed a greater city they desired to live in causing them to abandon their home.
But that's just a few connections I found, but this does a raise a question to me. In the Dreamlands the Gods are the minds of those who transcended the death of their material bodies. I wonder if the same holds true for Dragon Age?

I love this whole series so much!! I dig the whole lecture vibe, and I think Dragon Age lore lends itself well to the format. I've been a big fan of all the dragon age games, and this series seriously scratches the DA itch when I want to play but it's my wife's turn on the TV :p
I'm wondering if youre including information from the Netflix show, or if only sources from inquisition and prior are referenced. Just curious. :)
A pet peeve of mine is fanart being used without on-screen credit. I know you're not claiming it's your own art, but I think it's a matter of creative "sportsmanship" to include credit for others' work as prominently as possible. That's just my two cents on the matter. Otherwise, great work with this series! Can't wait to catch up to the current vids!

Professor, I love your lessons. I'm looking forward to the new studies about the creation of the fade by Solas. If it's true, I think it means that at some time elves and spirits coexisted. Maybe even humans too? But why is there no record or even some legend or tale about it? Was it something only elves could see? Because if the material and spirit worlds were one, it might means that dwarves lived like that too, but only "saw" the material world. Even before the titans were killed by the elves and their lyrium made them how they are now.
I'm not sure really, this raises many questions.

    • @XieronDraxin
      @XieronDraxin Рік тому +3

Based on the lore that we have, its implied that the Fade only was present on the surface. Something about the Titans repels the Fade. If the Fade is a world/power that embodies how changeable the world is through perception and emotion, the Titans and the lands underground woven with their blood, Lyrium, represents the hard immutability of the natural laws. Solas specifies that making the Veil was what destroyed the Elvhenan empire for good with the humans arriving after. As for lore about elves and spirits co-existing, such tales actually have survived with the Dalish. Merrill mentions a few of them in her dialogue I believe. Tales of good spirits helping elves navigate scary dreams and such.

Nice Lore video, but the "Professor " gimmick really doesn't work.
This is social media, not any kind of university/school, it's just a lore video.
I'm a Professor. Teaching is nothing like this, even to adults- you've got weird preconceptions about the job.
Some old Professors still give something reassembling this video, just reading the material, but such lectures are rares and almost extinct by now, didactics has come a long way.
This is on the level of a first year's exposé....

First of all, thank you for enjoying the video. As for the "Professor gimmick", I am fully aware that I am not a professor in real life. That is just a made up role, just like the theme of the channel being a "University" for fictional lore. I am role-playing the fictional character of "Professor Absalom." And even though its made up I try my hardest to be as factual and true to the source material as I can.
Even if teaching of this kind is not as common today as it used to be, as you claim, I don't care. I like the format and I'm sticking with it no matter how outdated it might be irl. It's my own little spin on the "lore video" format, inspired by many other content creators I might add.
