that rhythm vibe is classic and goes back at least to Muscle Shoals... The band here did themselves PROUD. Great jam, all night. Dave certainly knows music and musicians.
David Hildago is a Telecaster Master!! Number 1 in my list of Guitar Players still playing. Dave Alvin is good too, saw Blasters in early 80's and they were great.
@@kitano0 tHE "Wolves" can only truly be appreciated LIVE!! David and Company really rocked NYC mid/late 80's when I saw them. David always has a nice array of guitars and tones, and never shows off, just straight player!!
I grew up in Pico Rivera--city next to Downey where Phil & Dave grew up. I would see them @ high school dances back in the 70's..what a treasure indeed...
Growing up my dad had a friend Kenny Ragsdale. Kenny was a huge man somewhere around 6'8 and about 400# I think he played just about all the stringed instruments, the main one he played was mandolin, I was always awed watching him play, both of his hands dam near hid a mandolin but he would make it sing! I was working for the tree service my dad worked for lumping brush feeding chippers and setting chokers. Friday nights a bunch of people would end up at Kenny's place and the drinks would flow, the instruments would come out, everyone would be drinking myself included, even though I was not technically old enough to drink. This video brought memory's crashing back people just jamming together having fun. and enjoying life. They would play and drink till the wee hours, they would play everything from Hank Williams to Muddy Waters, and sometimes just battle back and forth. Hell, I can't carry a tune in a bucket let alone play any type of instrument. but I am sure this is one of the reasons I have the love of music that I do. This video reminds me of good times, family friends and such great memories
Heard this only recently on a local ALTERNATIVE ! radio station. (of all places) Had never heard of Dave Alvin before, well what a treasure trove of blues and rock I've stumbled on to LOVE this guy Kicking ass Blues Stay Safe Guys
Thanks for this! What a nice tribute to The Ash Grove! I feel the same way about the Down Home in Johnson City, TN, where I saw so many great musicians that have now crossed over!
I was a fan of Thee Midnighters since I was a student at Pacoima Junior High. My friend convinced me to go see Los Lobos at the Palladium in Hollywood. The show was blowing me away, as a glanced up, and Dave Alvin was standing next to me with a big grin on his face.
I like Dave Alvin and his music but I never heard music like this when I used to go to the Ash Grove. If it was blues it was acoustic and the style was much different. Still it's great to hear a tribute to those days.
I've never heard that story before, thanks for sharing. Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper were a huge find back in the day, especially getting to see them live. Los Lobos has been so consistently great for so many years that sometimes it feels like they are taken for granted. Wishing an invite to this show had found me. Absolutely incredible group.
Always loved David Hidalgo and Los Lobo’s, he’s one of my favorite guitarist.
Los lobos is special
As godlike as Dave Alvin is, can we take a second and appreciate that rhythm section and how tight they are?
I took the whole ten minutes- in appreciation, for the efforts of all

This is Dave Alvin with Los Lobos
To use the words of the great Ray Wylie Hubbard, they laid down a groove like a monkey gettin off
@@joeyscruggs5180 - it's Dave Alvin with one Los Lobos member (David Hidalgo), not the entire band.
I rewatch this masterpiece regularly.

Hildago and the Wolves are a national treasure. By the way he played a three-pup SG all night the nite I saw them...

David Hidalgo!!!!!
Yes Sir!!!👍👍❤️✨✨✨
Dave Alvin is an American treasure !
same to be said for David Hidalgo
@@monoped8437 I remember see Los Lobos for the first time at the Hollywood Palladium. Dave Alvin happened to be standing next to me.
I'd say a world treasure. Best wishes from Russia!
American treasure, right from the U.S.A.!

Dave - Playing that same guitar since I first saw him over 40 years ago!
Dave Alvin rocks! But let's not ignore David Hidalgo and the rest of the band this night!
Now, that's proper music!! I'd love to see Dave Alvin play over here in Scotland sometime.
Dave Alvin is to America what King Creosote is to Scotland. Roots, roots, roots.

Look up the Ashgrove Club on Melrose in Los Angeles, and you will see how many fantastic musicians played there!
All the musicians involved here are, to paraphrase Huell Howser, some of California’s finest gold.
