F-150 Raptor Deaver Leaf Springs Installation

- Wanna upgrade your leaf springs but think you have to pay a shop to do it? You really can do the install yourself with a few tools and some jacks.
I'm cheap and always looking to save a buck. so when it came to installing my Deavers on my truck, I decided to save myself the $400 dollars it cost to install and do it myself. Well not by myself. I had help from me kids, and a buddy, and it was relatively easy.
Check out the video where we cover preparing the leaf by giving them a rust coat and the whole installation process from De-installing, preparing, and installing. The process is basically the same for all Ford F150s and Raptors.

excellent work guys - I learned so much. Not only about installing leaf springs - but about general good-practice mechanic work.
Thanks again for this step by step walkthrough, I installed my ICON leaf kit today following your method. Took my friend and I about 5 hours start to finish. The drivers side was a little tricky with the fuel tank but other then that the 2 jacks tip was very helpful. Thanks again!

Start them off young. 🤣🤣. I got them involved because 1 all they do is play video games. And 2 because I wanted them to be self sufficient. Kids these days don’t even know how to change a tire. I wanted them to be able to problem solve and try and fix things themselves.

Very instructive video and a big fan of your series.
I found it much easier to install the new leaf springs U-bolts first onto the axle, before securing both ends of the spring to the frame. This allows you to ensure that the leaf springs are completely flush against the axle and that they are properly torqued down without being forcefully pulled to other directions.
Once the leaf springs are secured to the frame via U-bolts, bolting the ends into the frame only took a little bit of elbow grease and jack work.
Different experience, same end result.

If you want it to go easier, take off ubolts first and drop the axle and please please grease the hell out of your bushings and the sleeves. This was fun to watch.
That jack stand on that hitch is scary...dang!
Very much so. We switched to jack stands later. But it’s hard to find tall jack stands for this kind of work. The suspension droops so much that many times your only option is a lift. We all can’t afford or have space for a lift so you have to get creative
Great video. I enjoyed watching you share this time with your sons. I have a 2014 Raptor and I’m noticing the same problem. How was the ride afterward compared to stock?
There is a little stiffness at first on small bumps, but it eventually smoothes out as leafs break in and you get a very smooth on big bumps offroad.
Thanks for the video . I am looking upgrade my left springs on my 2010 f150, but going to a thicker left springs. Is there going to be any major changes in the ride ?
Thicker usually means a rougher ride. As you add more capability it gets stiffer.
First love your channel! Very informative, I have 2010 5.4 Raptor I’m trying to make it a reliable tow vehicle for my track car. Has stock front shocks set at mid perch, I was thinking either going with +3 Deavers or +2 HD Deavers what would you recommend for a build catered to towing rather than off-road?
Trying to avoid airbags just in case I want to have fun with it
Offroad trucks and offroad springs are not meant for towing. Yeah they are stiff but they are designed to give and articulate, where as towing needs to hold a load.
HD Deavers will help, but again not meant for towing. You should call Deavers and ask them for a recommendation. Let them know the focus is towing and they can make you a custom set of springs for the same price.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Totally understand completely! I just couldn’t pass up 10k for the Raptor so I’m hesitant on whether I fix to sell and just buy a better towing vehicle to start or take a gamble and invest in it.

So do u jack up the truck just enough to get the tire off and then how much do u jack the axle up? Just enough to get pressure off? Im gonna attempt this in a few days

How do you like the Geiser front springs and how much did it lift the front?
sixshooter4570 they lifted the front end 2.5 inches and have yet to sag any. Offroad they have been awesome and have really protected the front end and kept it out of trouble.
How much weight do u carry my 18 raptor has added overlanding gear weight of 1400 pounds. Im trying to figure out witch ones to get.
I maybe added anywhere between 600-800 lbs. 1400 is a lot and I would recommend reaching out to Deavers for a recommendation. That’s a shit ton of weight and your going to need something custom to offroad with it. Otherwise you’ll get something super super stiff that won’t cycle correctly
Since you did the HD +4 do you end up with a 4” lift in the rear?
No. Keep in mind the truck as a 2in block stock. When you remove the block and add deaver +4, you only get a 2in lift.
HDs are an extra inch. With all the weight I carry and the squat I ended up at 1in over stock
How did you keep the alignment of the rear axle? First time doing this. Do I need to just plan on taking it to an alignment shop afterwards or is there a trick
We found out later there is a way to “center” the axle. There is less than 1/8 in movement front to back and using straps you can attempt to center the axle on the pins. But for the novice it’s super tough to do. We never got it right and after installing we had to perform a small adjustment
No alignment needed. Get the leaf spring pin to go in the hole on the axle’s spring perches and you’re centered.
That’s not true man. Next time take a measurement of the pin and the hole. The hole is slightly larger and you can install the rear axle out of alignment if you don’t spend a little time aligning

will you need shims for this leaf spring lift?
Rylan R Downs No. you don’t want any shims under springs that you plan to offroad fast. The way to add lift is by adding leafs. Icons kit give you the option to add height with a leaf. Deavers you need to order based on the height over stock that you need.
Did mine in 2 hrs. (1 per side) x2 people. Same with my wife's 2013 Raptor. Same time and bodies. Before the leafs and your upcoming bump stops. You shouldn't invested in replacement shocks. Just my .02 cents.

I got the deaver +3 installed. I’m getting some clunky noise. Sounds like something is rolling in the bed. Any idea?
Jake Lund squeaks and creaks are normal, the clunks depends on what your doing when it does it . Also do you have a bump stop?
Yup have the sdhq bump stop kit. It makes the noise on turns around the corner

Savings these is hard to find. With supply shortages, everything is at a premium. Try offroad alliance or check with hammer performance.

Rubber Duckie yeah man. Deavers are just a brand of leaf springs. You can put them on any truck that’s has leaf springs. They even make some for rare classics. You give them a call and let them know what you want to do
You should of painted your differential. Video s good
Fern Built what do you mean?
Since you had everything off, a coat of paint like the leaf springs.
Fern Built I changed out the rear diff cover a while back. And panting the axel is kind of pointless. It gets sand blasted everytime we go out.
Be careful using a torque wrench as a breaker bar.
Andrew McSpadden I know man. We used what we had back when this was filmed. We have a break away bar now.
