Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer today we're gonna be taking a look at the Demco towed vehicle charge wire kit. So the main reason I always recommend using a charge wire kit is so your batteries not drained down whenever you get to your destination. And that happens because nine times out of 10 the vehicle braking system that you're using actually draws power from your vehicle's battery to operate. So every time you apply the brakes and that breaking system activates it's gonna take a little bit of juice from your battery. So let's say if you don't stop every now and again and start up your car with that battery charge up or if you're on a multiple day trip, leave everything hooked up and you get to your destination unhook your vehicle. Sometimes your battery can be drained can be dead.
And then you got to go through the trouble of charging it up, getting a jump box maybe find someone to jumpstart you. And that's a big headache. No one wants to deal with that. When you're trying to enjoy yourself and by using a charge line, it's gonna eliminate that. And that's because whenever you're flat towing your motorhome is more or less going to maintain or trickle charge your vehicles, battery.
Whenever you're going down the road. That way, once you get to your spot you can unhook and have the confidence knowing that your vehicle will start right up. So the way this kit is going to work is it's going to use your motorhome at 12 volt auxiliary power here at the back of it on the 7-way. Now you will have to have a 12 volt power supply for everything to work properly. Pretty much any time I've seen a motorhome with a 7-way on it.
It's more than likely going to have that power supply that 12 volt auxiliary power. Just something I wanted to mention, but whenever you start the motorhome, get going down the road. It's going to send power out from that 7-way through your tow bar wiring and into your connector plug here at the front of your vehicle. And that's where our charge wire is actually hooked up. So that power is gonna go through the plug through our charge wire and run up to the positive battery post where it's going to charge everything up.
Now, today we actually have the charge wire kit hooked up to our vehicle. In this case, it's a Ford Ranger. Well, one of the great things about the setup is it's pretty much universal. It's got to work with just about any make or models as long as it has a 12 volt battery and a connector plug at the front. That way you can hook up the other end of it too you're gonna be good to go. It's got to do the job the way it should. Now with it hooked up here, it's a little tricky to see just because we don't have a space. So I figured I would pull one right out of the box and that way we can have a better look at it. One of the things right off the batt that I noticed about this setup is that it's pretty much ready to go. It's pretty much ready to be installed. Everything already comes pre-attached. So that's nice. Kind of eliminate some of the guesswork there. And it's also going to give you quite a bit of wire and it's quite long and you really shouldn't have to worry about extending it or anything like that. Matter of fact, a lot of times you can probably shorten this up a little bit so that's good to have more than what you actually need and should make life a little bit easier. Now, just to kind of compare this to a nother kit here we have the Roadmaster charge line kit, and right off the back, you can tell, they look a little bit different. I've used both of these. They both work great and do the job. However, if I had to pick one from my own vehicle I would probably lean towards the Demco kit. And really that's because everything comes attached already. The wires are nice and thick, but more importantly it actually uses a built-in diode. And so what that diode is going to do is allow the electricity to only flow one way. So power can come from the motorhome up through here to your battery. It can not back feed. It cannot go this way and back out through. So that's nice. You're not going to have a hot wire running down the front of your vehicle at the connector plug or anything like that. And that's how it's going to help reduce corrosion at that connector plug a little bit. That way, if there's moisture or something in that connector plug, you don't have standing voltage air and it's going to help keep everything nice and clean. And that connector that way it'll work for years to come. I also lik
