    The colt saa wasn't the most universally carried, percussion handy me down, and conversions of a colt 1851/1861 navy, and 1860 army, remington new model army/navy were more accessible. Back then, in the early 1870s, conversions were a lot cheaper. with mass auctions of military surplus rifles. People had the money to save up, and get a good rifle for cheap, other than that. Its actually common for double barrel shotguns to be more... popular than a colt saa, or winchester rifle. Everyone had them.
    So realistically, single action mechanisms were outdated in the 1890s, everyone wanted double action. So it would make sense for the military to auction their colt SAA's (and for a colt saa to be cheaper) than usual. But beyond that, in the mid-late 1870s, you would've seen people carry their grandpa/dads percussion revolver, or a cartridge conversion.
    Fun fact: s&w, remington had cheaper guns, so you'd be seeing more people carrying them. Its a myth that everyone had a colt saa.
    The true guns that won the west
    1. Double barrel shotgun, these guns were dominating the 18th-19th century, thats until the early 20th century they were being replaced by pump action.
    2. Colt 1851 Navy: Percussion or conversion, this was colts 2nd most selling revolver. Globally: your neighbor had it.
    3. hard to pin, but defintiely a Henry 1860: it had so many flaws. But it was cheap, after the winchester 1866 was redesigned, and produced.
    Myth guns
    1. colt saa
    2. Wincehster 1873

      It wasnt the most universally carried gun, but it was the most carried full sized handgun. All of the jobs and people who we think of when thinking of the old west carried full sized handguns. They may have also owned and carried pocket guns, but their tool of the trade was the full sized revolver. Also cap and ball/conversions quickly went out of fashion when newly designed guns for cartridges came out. So only early 70s would they still really be carried. Also double action revolves never really overtook single action. Some double actioms were pretty popular but mostly for pocket sizes. Full sized single action revolvers dominated even into 30s depending on your job. Like texas rangers preferred them. Also the 1873 Winchester was by far the most popular leveraction rifle, maybe even rifle im general. It outsold every other company and model that even Winchester made. The 1860 henry didn't wasnt produced a whole lot. Finally the double barrel shotgun can be considered the gun that won the west. The 1851 cant be considered that, the old west generally is said to have started after the civil war. Then not long after cartridge guns came into the scene in which the 1851 and other percussion guns went out of favor. The top 3 guns would be double barrel shotgun, 1873 colt, and 1873 Winchester. There were would be honorable mentions too. The Schofield would not be one of them. It sold poorly on the civilian market and barely ant were made. S&W model 3 American and russians were better

    You are clearly not educated about this time period-the Victorian era and the rest of the 19th century. Please do not create videos that mislead people about history by labeling unrealistic content as "realistic" or using misleading thumbnails. For instance, portraying women who held a gun once in their lives as being on par with Sadie Adler is historically inaccurate. not even men like Sadie Adler existed, like rockstar portrayed us, let alone a woman.
    If you are seeking real education on this topic, I would be glad to teach anyone. But for short: if you wanted Sadie's story to be as realistic as possible, she would not be riding in an outlaw gang. Imagine this: you're attacked by a bunch of cartels while out in Arizona. Then another bloodthirsty, murderous cartel comes along, burns your house down, and forces you to stay with them. Later, they let you go. ANYONE in such a situation would leave these dangerous men for their own safety and go on their way, regardless of having nowhere else to go, otherwise you might get caught up in another shootout with another rival gang or the police, you would die
    sadie’s desire for revenge is understandable, but those high-octane shootout missions with her would never happen. What would occur is that, over a long period of time-maybe a few years-she would try to track down the O'Driscolls, especially Colm, and silently kill them one by one, maybe one-two per month, in the back. She wouldn’t go out guns blazing and kill 300 people with a single revolver and one friend. and eventually, she would probably see colm get hanged in st. denis, and her revenge story would end there.
    Call me out; I don’t really care. I just cant understand how people think killing 700 opposing gang men is realistic, or how they accept Sadie’s out-of-bounds, insane shootout missions as realistic. Sadie racks up more kills than every old west outlaw combined. Even the most feared outlaws in history had fewer than a dozen murders to their names. Yet this character is responsible for murdering hundreds of experienced gunfighters and criminals despite having zero prior gunfighting experience.
    This isn’t just about Sadie or her gender-this applies to every character in RDR2. Arthur for instance kills something like 2,000 people. realistically, it would be more like 3-4 killings and maybe incapacitating or wounding a dozen others. About 95% of the shootout missions wouldn’t exist because they would be easy to avoid in real life. But, the game forces you to fight.

    • @dukemeiser19
      @dukemeiser19  12 днів тому +3

      @Ao19222 i do my due research when writing for these videos but i never claimed to be an expert in the subject. When watching it’s important to suspend disbelief and accept that this is a video game i’m talking about. Video games of course are never going to be realistic, so I try to find the most plausible aspect of each aspect.

      I don't agree with the Mary sue argument, however, I do agree that the writers gave her a lot of lineage, especially in the Colm Hanging mission, her outrage could have easily gotten her killed, and a lot of times I feel like she's careless. But to say she's unlikable is objectively wrong she's interesting and unique. The voice actor did an amazing work, and I don't see what you don't like about her performance

    • @AsteroidSpy
      @AsteroidSpy 11 днів тому +1

      @GreekV1nce her gunfighting skills suddenly appers after buying some clothes instead of slowly letting her learn and become better she all the sudden is a qualified member of the gang. She also never suffers any consequenses for being careless except being yelled at by arthur for two seconds, not even a comment after the shootout at colms hanging that was totally unessesary. Nlt to even mention her shallow reasons to be in the gang, she was a civillian then two months later she is okay with robbing and killing innocent people just because she is mad at another gang no worse than them. Her attitude becomes unbearable in the epilouge, she talks down to john constantly while her entire stature becomes like over the top macho guy it's laughable dumb to look at. Her voice is also just way to over the top and you can hear that it's a fake voice. The concept of the character is very good but done in a bad way.

    • @fluffysheap
      @fluffysheap 11 днів тому +2

      @@AsteroidSpy She always participated in hunting with Jake and likely had plenty of practice with a revolver. It takes her months to recover from Jake dying and even then all she really wants is to kill O'Driscolls. It's only in Chapter 5, mostly offscreen, that she really becomes a full member of the gang and not just someone who kind of hangs around, and that only because Dutch and Arthur are in Guarma and Hosea died.
      The consequences she suffers are getting stabbed in the final mission and almost dying. I suspect in the original script she did die but she was popular enough to get the Hollywood plot armor. And yes the shootout at Colm's hanging was unnecessary, but that's, what, the sixth shootout by that point? They're routine.
      Have you heard Alex McKenna give interviews? Her voice is not very different.

    • @AsteroidSpy

      @@fluffysheap hunting and gunfighting are not comparable in the slightest and is the same ridiculous argument made by sadie fans. Her going from rancher in the wilderness to killing innocent lawmen and soldiers proves there is no logic behind her character. Her hatred for the o'driscolls are just stupid, only one member is known to have been at her cabin other than the one's there in the mission but for some reason everyone is to blame somehow.
      The final mission is the final proof of her being a "mary sue" she gets stabed in the gut a lethal hit in the times before antibiotics and the knife would most likley not be sterile, and so while she is bleeding profusely she follows john through snow up into thin air then teleports around a cabin to take micah at gunpoint and he dosen't just shoot her in fucking face. But charles who is shot in the shoulder who is way more physical shape than the tiny woman can barely walk a couple meter before collapsing. Micah is hated for shooting up strawberry for his personal guns but sadie isn't for risking arthur, dutch and civillian lives for no fucking reason.
