Thank you so much I just changed my filter on my 2006 cobalt before your video I didn't even know where it was or what it looked like. Unfortunately it didn't fix my car, but you taught me how do replace one so thank you!
Excellent Video. I have never in my life changed a fuel filter on any car and now feel I have pro knowledge at least for the Cobalt :) Saved myself $50 by going the DIY Route. Thanks for the video!
@guzziesrulsies Im glad to help. I enjoy working on cars, I do my research and try to pass on my small but hopefully useful knowledge. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video indeed! Thanks for posting this and the spark plug video. I will be doing the fuel filter and the spark plugs on my son's car tomorrow. It's good to see a young fellow like yourself wrenching on his own car and doing it well! Thanks again.
Thanks man for ANOTHER great video! I changed my Spark Plugs and Fuel Filter using your videos... Great job and sorry to hear about your car.. Good luck and Keep posting videos!!
@IrvingLudwig Im really glad i changed BOTH. I definately feel a differance in the startup and I also notice my Idle is better and does not drop when i come to a stop sign. And the Gas Milage... Unquestionable i get more.. rolled 397 Miles on my last tank. Your videos are easy to understand and are straight forward with out the added BS in some others i have seen. These are your first.. I will be looking forward to more!
It was a good video. I'm thankful that you showed this. I just recommend having a friend with you to video tape you doing it so we can see you take the parts off and on. Even if you do get fuel on yourself :-) lol.
I think I remember reading that in some Cobalts (maybe on the 4 doors) the filter may be located on towards the front of the car on the passengers side, close to the front wheel. I am not 100% certain so the only other thing I can think of is check at a local auto parts store, sometimes when you give them the year and model they will pull up the part and it tells them the location. Good luck!
I have a 2007 LS sedan and it was usin up a bit more gas then usual so I thought I'd change the fuel filter but didn't know how to go about it. Thanks to your vid I am going to do it myself. Again choice vid for a first timer.
@Gtracer009 Actually you are right! I forgot to mention this! After taking off the fuel pump fuse, you have to start the car and then it will just die on you. This means the car is depressurized. I can't believe I forgot to mention this step! I will make a note of it on the video.
I have an '05 Cobalt-with the 2.2 engine. My fuel line (the one that requires the little wrench to remove) is all metal. The 3/8" tool is ONLY for removal on my filter. Plus-they give you a plastic fitting with the filter. The fitting goes on the fuel line all the way til the flange is flush with the circular housing-then the whole thing goes into the filter until it kinda clicks. Takes some pressure. Remember-wrench is only for removal.
Thank you for the tutorial. It was VERY helpful. My only suggestion - Use a metal fuel line remover. Plastic is a headache, and you'll save a lot of time, patience, and you'll curse less.
great video.. learned alot here. bro keep these coming cus i have a 2005 chevy cobalt and it came without the book so i need all the advice ideals i can possibly have.
Once you use the disco tool to put the line in you push it inside as far as the disco tool and line will allow you to. You will notice that part of the disco tool (or almost all of it, I cnt remember exactly) goes inside the filter while you are pushing the line in. Once you do it you can feel how stabe and secure the line feels. Remember to check for leaks once you get done with the whole process.
I have a problem that says my evap is messed up but I changed it n it still has a tough time cranking at times. would that be my fuel filter or crank shaft.
Just did this myself using this video. It's really easy, if you have the right tools. Spent $40 for the filter and line-tool. Had it done in little under an hour. So much better then spending $150-$200 for a mechanic to do it for me. When you insert that fuel line tool, you should feel a slight "Pop" as the fuel filer looses it's grip and it slips right out of the filter.
Awesome videos, I am just about to hit 100k on my 2010 Cobalt, I just changed the spark plugs, and am planning to do the fuel filter some time next month or so, is there any thing else you would suggest as for maintenance?
thank you for the video i am having a problm. with my chevy cobalt 2008 and wondering if it is the alternator or the fuel filter since i had been driving it with low fuel for a while. this video is very helpful i believe i can do this so wish me luck . if this is not the case i hope i find a video on how to replace a alternator omg!
Thank you for the Video. We have an 09 I got the two sides loose easy. The last white one from the tank side was Too deep to get to .Shoved way in from factory.
@MasterNeko Thanks. I bought them used (didn't have enough $ for new at the time) =S... They were originally all silver but I went ahead and painted them black and did the red on the outside rim. I used spray paint. It is very easy to do (and time consuming), the only thing that was a pain in the ass was making sure that the Red outlined was perfectly round. I used a lot of painters tape =D. They are not 100% perfect but they sure looked damn good!
Hey bro my buddy has a 2005 chev cobalt and we know its not a engine mount so leaning towards a fuel filter My question is would a dirty or bad filter cause the engine to shake rhythmically and lose acceleration thanx bro
My 05 chevy did the same the rpms drop quickly and the car would shake more when the ac was on, my problem got fixed my cleaning the throttle with some carburetor cleaner. No more shaking. It seems is a common cobalt problem
@Evylnsyde1 Im glad to help out! I learn a lot of things through other peoples videos and posts so I decided to pay it forward and do my share of the work lol. So are my videos easy to understand? They are my first two videos ever therefore I hope they are helpful and understandable. BTW weren't you glad you changed the fuel filter and spark plugs? You feel a smoother ride don't you? I noticed big difference in my car. Better gas milage, better response, smoother ride.
Would have been better if you had shown the ACTUAL removal rather than just simulating...I'm having issues getting the new one on...and the old one was a BITCH to get off!!!
sometimes the car may turn off on you or it feels like it wants to turn off while idling. Because the fuel is not running freely through out the car, dirty filter.
Sorry for the late reply, I made this more than 6 years ago and I never really checked it at all. If Im not mistaking the car kinda wanted to start turning off on me (fuel wasn't flowing well through the lines).
@horsy0013 It may be the fuel filter, since you are saying that it turns off at a stop (when you are not accelerating), then it is possible that the fuel is not flowing well through the fuel lines and filter. Also check your spark plugs, if it takes a couple of tries for you to crank up your car, then it can also be that your spark plugs are worn out and they are not creating enough spark for your car to stay on and run nicely. (check my video that shows you how to change spark plugs)
@irvingludwig I have a question if I replace my fuel filter and use the fuel line disco tool, how will I know if the line that goes into the filter is secure? how far will I need to know if it is going into the filter properly and will the disco tool tell me how?
If you have blue and green ,they may be a replacement for the 2 quick release hoses clips. Im here trying to find the mesure of the removal tool . I bought a multitool of 4 and are too big.icant find that information .
I did it at around 80 thousand miles. Some people do it at around 60thousand others wait till the 100 thousand mark. The owners manual will be your best bet.
@horsy0013 I will keep more videos coming sometime in the future because my car was totaled by some dumb lady that hit me =@!!!!!!! Fortunately they paid for the car and now Im looking for a new vehicle.
You should put a disclaimer that this does not apply to SS cobalts with a turbocharger (08+ LNF) I went through all the hassles of buying the part and tool and jacking the car up and even lowering the gas tank before I found out that the fuel filter is integrated with the fuel pump and it is not serviceable. Good video though
@Samsonite4188 you can get in in any auto store such as Napa, Auto Zone, Advance Auto, O'Reylis etc.... Just go in and tell them you need a fuel line disconnect tool and they will tell you what size you need for your car.
ALTHOUGH I FIND IT VERY INFORMATIVE IT ISNT EVEN CLOSE TO EXPLAINING BY ACTUALLY DOING IT....NEEDLESS TO SAY EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS RATHER EASY TO DO I WONT BE DOING IT ANYTIME SOON CAUSE I DONT HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO BE WORKING IT THE CORRECT WAY
I used them for my mountain bikes. I had to use a Yakima Fork Mounted Rooftop Bike Mount that attaches to those rails but i would take them off and only attach them when needed.
I thought about Mtn bikes after i posted, doing this today on my daughters cobalt, and then a timing chain set. She has the ugly 4 door sedan type. Im not a cobalt fan but yours looks great !!
I think you did an excellent job for your first video. Talk about making it easy. Love it. Thank you for the assist.

Great job on the video. It included many small details I would not have thought of. THANKS!
ank you for taking the time to share your video. It is really nice to see a up close tutorial keep up the good job. thx
Excellent video indeed! Thanks for posting this and the spark plug video. I will be doing the fuel filter and the spark plugs on my son's car tomorrow. It's good to see a young fellow like yourself wrenching on his own car and doing it well! Thanks again.
You are an awesome young man. Great video! Probably saved me a couple hundred dollars!

Great video! Covered the steps clearly and thoroughly. Hope you keep the vids coming!

Sorry serious question don’t know too much about cars but How will I know for sure it’s my filter that needs to be replaced?
I have a problem that says my evap is messed up but I changed it n it still has a tough time cranking at times. would that be my fuel filter or crank shaft.
awesome vid, well done (especially for a first timer!). Thanks!

when do you replace the fuel filter
We replaced it when we started smelling a fuel leak, was a bit late in replacing it, and the pump gave out. I would recommend at 75K
Awesome tutorial mate!

Thanks..it worked out just how you explained it...
@superbrowndude Thanks for the support man! I will try to keep posting new videos on the cobalt
got all the stuff but haven't gotten around to doing it. Too much work around the yard and house. but I'll let you know when I get around to it.
Hey dude has your car ever had any surging problems I have a cobalt and jerks and 25 mph and 45 mph any suggestions
@DJrb2008 No problem! Im glad my video was helpful and saved you some money.
Good video man your gonna end up saving me a lotta money

Hi, how do you know your old fuel filter is bad? what's the symptom of a bad filter? thanks.
sometimes the car may turn off on you or it feels like it wants to turn off while idling. Because the fuel is not running freely through out the car, dirty filter.
Thanks bro pretty clear video!!
good instructions. maybe next time show actually removing the old one...but, it helped a lot if it wasn't so rusted....
Dude that was great, cuss word made it kinda of funny, have a 06 cobalt, dreaded to do this but u made it easy for me, thanks
Quick question. What was it doing before you changed it
Sorry for the late reply, I made this more than 6 years ago and I never really checked it at all.

Cansomeone please explain what the two lines coming out of one side of the canister what each of those hoses does and where do they go???
@LEXXONE74 Are you sure you don't have a Cobalt made for states like California? Bc I think those have the fuel filter inside the gas tank.
@irvingludwig I have a question if I replace my fuel filter and use the fuel line disco tool, how will I know if the line that goes into the filter is secure? how far will I need to know if it is going into the filter properly and will the disco tool tell me how?
Great instructions thanks
Hey I got these two plastic pieces that came with the filter and idk what they are for, any ideas?
If you have blue and green ,they may be a replacement for the 2 quick release hoses clips. Im here trying to find the mesure of the removal tool . I bought a multitool of 4 and are too big.icant find that information .
Yeah they are I did the repair about 2 weeks ago
@@bradlesc1000 can you tell me the size of the removal tool?
Yeah it was 3/8ths of an inch, and it also had a smaller end we didn’t use
@@bradlesc1000 thank you.😀
awesome video.. thanks man. very helpful
Great video keepit up
What modifications are on top of your Cobalt?
I had a Yakima Roof rack where I would put my 2 mountain bikes.
I got a question, after removing fuel pump fuse, do you think starting the car would reduce amount of fuel spillage?
Yes you have to turn it off so the car dies which means the fuel isn’t pressurized anymore.
Good video, very helpful.
hey did it work? and if did what was the difference.
What coils are you running????
Good job, man.
No need to pull and relay. It does nothing with the key off.
after pulling fuse, he starts the car and waits for it to quit, de-pressurizing the fuel system
@@toddbuh Well, he's supposed to do that, but he doesn't.
I'm sorry but this feels like a school project. What did you like about this book? "What I like is" lmao. No hate tho it was a very useful video
Very good video.
so if u dnt hav the tool how do u do this the special tool
how often should the fuel filter be replaced?
I did it at around 80 thousand miles. Some people do it at around 60thousand others wait till the 100 thousand mark. The owners manual will be your best bet.
i am loving those rims....u order them?
Couldn't get the single line off with the fuel line remover tool, the line was rusted
Michael Morey what did you do
@horsy0013 I will keep more videos coming sometime in the future because my car was totaled by some dumb lady that hit me =@!!!!!!! Fortunately they paid for the car and now Im looking for a new vehicle.
I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt and I'm pretty sure I have a faulty EGR Valve. Can anyone tell/show me where to find that on the engine itself?
Thanks for watching!
Where did you get the tool
Well done
where did you get the fuel line tool?
You should put a disclaimer that this does not apply to SS cobalts with a turbocharger (08+ LNF) I went through all the hassles of buying the part and tool and jacking the car up and even lowering the gas tank before I found out that the fuel filter is integrated with the fuel pump and it is not serviceable. where is the fuel filter located in a 2008 cobalt 2.2liter LT?
Nice video.
Tks for the videos
@dbagmcgee311 Glad I can help!
Do u replace fuse before turning on car thanks
Yes, replace the fuse before you start. If you don't you will not have fuel pressure and your vehicle wont start
I can't get the sliver fuel line off. How do I do it?
thanks man!
ALTHOUGH I FIND IT VERY INFORMATIVE IT ISNT EVEN CLOSE TO EXPLAINING BY ACTUALLY DOING IT....NEEDLESS TO SAY EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS RATHER EASY TO DO I WONT BE DOING IT ANYTIME SOON CAUSE I DONT HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO BE WORKING IT THE CORRECT WAY
WHY ARE YOU YELLING
sergio lugo why SHOULDNT I YELL?
good video thank you
@LEXXONE74 That's what I meant, it's no longer accessible.
@keniaum of course prima... I gotta show them my baby! lol
whered you get roof rack
yakima
I hope you are a whitewater kayaker, those racks are too close together for anything else
I used them for my mountain bikes. I had to use a Yakima Fork Mounted Rooftop Bike Mount that attaches to those rails but i would take them off and only attach them when needed.

I have a 2008 "Special Edition" LT, No fuel filter, the fuel filter was eliminated...:-)
