Plug in by far. I think people are freaking out about the idea of charging their car overnight, when it's literally sitting idle. But when it saves you chunk of money at the pump it's a game changer.
True, but a lot of Australian's don't have off-street parking. So they must park on the street and often don't get to park near their dwelling. One of the reasons why regular HEVs are selling in much greater numbers than PHEVs.
@@carsales Hmmmm I've been hearing this alot but when you look at our sprawling suburbs it doesn't sound right. The worst presentation ever seen. How is it possible to compare 2 different cars, one full hybrid without full equipment and another plug in hybrid with full equipment and say that Kia does not have ventilation in the seats and other things.
This is really useful information for me. It seems that none of the UA-cam presenters pay much attention to the drive-train & battery technology, and the terms Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid don't adequately indicate how they compare. I have no interest in the Toyota concept of a complex integrated ICE/Electric with a tiny NiMH battery. A Range extender concept such as the Chevrolet/Holden Volt, or the Nissan Electric Transmission needs different terminology to discriminate. The lack of understanding of the chemical difference between "Iron" and "Ion" is very disappointing. I'd buy a range-extender if there was a suitable offering, but it looks like it'll be a straight EV.
I think this company is just trying to sell whatever left of Sportage commitment they agreed to with Kia 😂, just my two cents after watching this review. As someone has said, I think it’s two different cars, I have had my SL6 for the past 2 weeks now and loving it, took the delivery in Hobart, and have driven it from Hobart to Launceston, the EV mode setup to 75% gave me about 80km before the HEV kicked in. And by the time I arrived in Lonnie, the HEV was about 112KM and EV was about 87km. I noticed it charged during down hill and brakes and gave me additional 7-8km. And the reason I chose this car was of the limited charging stations across Australia if one is to go for long distance, which I’m planning to do.
You can use sealion just like an ICE car, you can only refuel and never charge it, it's still have more fuel-efficient than Toyota and Kia's HEV system, Its engine functions only as a generator, running at a specific RPM, making it quieter and more efficient.
If you don't have off-street parking or anywhere to charge, it's a big issue. Hence why plug-in hybrids make up a small percentage of overall car sales at present. However, it is growing, along with infrastructure. Some cool innovations like wallbox chargers on suburban streets are being trialled which are good for inner-city types with on-street parking.
On a novated lease BYD pays no FBT. KIA pays full FBT. You also never need to plug in the BYD. And the range of the BYD's battery means for most people if you plug it in and drive around the city it is essentially an EV. Also, you can use voice control for most things on the BYD, including air conditioning so you can keep your eyes on the road. Its really simple, works well and yet the reviewer doesn't bother to even mention it. The review seems to miss the point on pretty much everything - really poor. Much better reviews out there.
So the KIA never needs plugging in, but is still less economical than the BYD if you never plug it in either. Seems the theory is that having the ability to plug in is seen as a disadvantage, even when the vehicle is more economical if even if you can't or don't wish to plug in.
All I know is that BYD battery warranty is as good as none. ATTO3 Canberra owner can attest to that. The system went belly up travelling at 100km/h. BYD denied warranty claim until media intervened
Sealion 6 smashes it out of the park. You can basically drive it for free if you have solar for your daily commute. So you are immune to petrol prices, yet you are also protected from range anxiety. Bit of an apples to oranges comparison. The only negative about BYD is stupidly complex warranty. Whoever came up with that idea needs to do a 3 year Marketing course, because it's a serious drawback, especially when BYD cars are well made and the LFP Blade batteries last basically for ever.
I took the Sealion for a test drive today and was absolutely blown away. After that, I tried the Tesla Model Y, but honestly, it felt a bit underwhelming. At 6'1" and a larger guy, I found the Sealion to be much more comfortable, especially with good headroom in the back-unlike the Tesla Model Y, where my head was hitting the roof. I was able to adjust my driving seat all the way back, leaving plenty of room for someone to sit behind me. I’m really impressed! I also tested the Camry, which was nice, but it just didn’t compare to the Sealion. Plus, I’m not too fussy about not having a spare tyre; I hardly drive, mainly in urban areas, and I always change my tyres when they’re nearing their expiration. I’ve never had any issues in the last 20 years. I'm definitely tempted!

He says never needs plugging in as an advantage. The BYD doesn't 'need' plugging in either, you can keep driving it without plugging it in. Plugging in provides an additional advantage to use cheaper electricity to power it.
6 month warranty on what is mainly consumable items. Atleast they state it - Kia will just fob you off saying they are consumable items when you go to claim. If thats the worst thing to complain about....
Thanks for a great review . Was the 5.7 l/100 km in the BYD achieved with the battery fully charged from the mains before testing began, or is this the figure that could be expected if an owner ignored the plug in functionality ?
The parts (screen wipers, brake pads and filter) covered by 6 months warranty of Sea lion 6 are for the commercial usage which travels over 30,000 per year, such as taxi or Uber. For normal usage, who ever worries about these parts can break in 6 months. Or in other words, these parts will last a many times longer than 6 months for normal driving.
This in not even a comparison. You didn’t really touch on fuel consumption. If you travel less than 70 km most days the BYD would cost much less to run or even for free with the right energy plan or solar panels at home. Very few buyers are interested in driving dynamics for a car that is basically a shopping trolley
Why Australia dont have PHEV toyota Rav4(Rav4 prime) or PHEV Kia sportage etc ?please tell me somebody🙏 Seems like PHEV market is behind here. Not so serious about electric life maybe?
Imagine, 60 Liter Gasoline Tank 60 / 5.7 L = 10.53 10.53 * 100 = 1,053 KM still its around 17-18kmpl which is still impressive the reason why it can get longer range is because you have a bigger gasoline tank, not because of the EV scheme

Another so called car expert that doesn't know the short cuts (finger drag across the screen) to adjust the A/C without having to go into a menu. Cudos for mentioning the VTL function on the BYD. That's a huge benefit. Totally agree that the BYD would really benefit from locally tuned suspension. It is quite soft but if you're a city driver, it's going to be comfortable. The whole idea of buying a PHEV is to charge it everyday and use the electric only range most of the time but you then can easily do long trips if you need too. You can fast charge it on long trips as well which is a bonus. My driving would mean that 90% of my trips would be on electric only which would be charged from solar panels for free or on the 8c per kw/h on the overnight electric car rate. The BYD would save me over $6,000 a year. The extra equipment in the BYD also makes it a compelling offer. Electric tailgate, twin wireless phone chargers, lots of extra USB ports, 360 degree camera, heated and ventilated front seat, all lights are LED and head up display.

The BYD uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4). Not Lithium Ion (Li-ion). LiFePO4 shits all over Li-ion.
BYD ATTO3 Canberra owner disagrees. Warranty was denied until media intervention. Took BYD 8 months to return the vehicle
21:32 Never needs to plugging in is a boon??? Since when less is more???
If you don't have off-street parking or anywhere to charge, it's a big issue. Hence why plug-in hybrids make up a small percentage of overall car sales at present. However, it is growing, along with infrastructure. Some cool innovations like wallbox chargers on suburban streets are being trialled which are good for inner-city types with on-street parking.
@@carsales Ummm - And the BYD is a hybrid so you don't need to plug it in...
