Nice of your brother to give it to you temporarily in order to fix it. I've always wanted one of these scopes but never found one at the right price and working.

Brother here, he did a such a great job that the scope imprinted on him. I actually shipped it back to him again to keep 😉

I bought exactly this power supply for my 222-PS from n0dy-Jeff in California, and I can tell you it is great!
The 222PS is not just cute, but it is almost inimitable, as it is floatable to 850V/p-p, making it a tool only supplanted by devices costing thousands of times as much.
Of course it is bandwidth limited, and sample-rate limited, but these are not the features you are looking for when looking at higher-voltage power supplies.
Regarding this particular repair job, I believe it is not the two transistors in the amplifier stage that made the difference.
Tektronix is a prestige brand, and they have surface-mount "indignity sensors" in the cases of the instruments.
This scope came in in an indecently filthy condition, and you have cleaned it up, thus satisfying the negative indignity condition, and this is what has allowed the scope to work decently!

    36:40 ...like a finger in a what?!?
Beaut build by the way, the 3D printed case looks great and it's obvious a lot of thought went into the PCB design. Thanks for the video!

Just picked one of these up at a junk rummage sale. Walked by it a number of times before asking the price. Guy says "not sure it even works, how about $2", yeah, I'll do $2. And it does work. I have always wanted one, although I currently have no use for it.

$2?? Wow, bargain of the century, they often sell for hundreds of dollars!

@@NearFarMedia Well, to be completely transparent, he said $2, and all I had was a $5, so I told him to keep it. Is there something special about these that they are desirable, or just due to their size? I know about nothing when it comes to these scopes.

    • @NearFarMedia

Yeah, rarity and also their small size making them convenient for automotive work, on-site work and things needing a ground isolated scope.
Plus they are just plain cute. :D

Can you explain why the hybrid chips were such a no no to mess around with / touch? Great vid btw - really glad I found your channel!

They are basically unobtainable unless you pull replacements from another oscilloscope.
Due to the custom nature of them, you could only buy them from Tektronix, and due to their age, you can't buy them any more unless you get really lucky. Its the same for many custom parts across multiple manufacturers when dealing with older equipment.

    Excellent video! Thank you. 🇨🇦🐧
I got my 224 as a hand-me-down, without the long screws. Would you measure and tell me the spec's of the three long screws, please.

    • @NearFarMedia
      @NearFarMedia  3 роки тому +1

They are 6-32 thread, 2" long, Pan head Torx screws.

Does this digitize the signal then display it or does it display the analog signal but it stores some waveforms for playback? So it is fully analog when probing but for analysis - ch1 vs ch2, you can playback a waveform?

Excellent video. Anyone who have the 224 service manual I will be grateful. I have the 222 service manual but isn't the same circuitry :(. My 224 starts show the probe screen then blank the screen then shows a point on top right then starts again in a loop. I'm trying to fix it for let a gift to my brother. Best regards from Venezuela.
