  • Ya, I'm going to be a cube party pooper here and call out people who are trying to fool others in the community instead of making honest content. Sorry for the audio crackling. Hopefully my mic isn’t going bad.
Someone shared a wonderful frame from the second video I talk about. This dismembered arm is either additional evidence or a very painful experience. pBxCu6ylHD...
I'm not going to share the videos of the fake ones. They were done with just changing the colors of the individual stickers and just do it with larger grids making it automated for the bigger video.
Here is the video of the guy juggline the 3 cubes

Lol, that one where he "plays" instruments is so obvious. Just by looking at those 3 seconds of footage, it's his posture, his movements, the small things that make it stand out that he doesn't know what he's doing.
I play the violin and he probably had someone who instructed him, or made some effort researching. He didn't make the standard mistakes that you see actors do. It's really funny to see actors in movies pretend to play xD. It's kind of the same here, something is just off.
EDIT: Never mind, I just watched his video just for the cringe-value and boy did I cringe xD. Every, single, mistake.

Okay, a few things I noticed. I couldn’t find the first video, but it does look like real stop motion. I think that they did not use the actual pieces of the cube for that, but that does not mean it’s fake. It looks like they just used stickers, which they rearranged for the animation. I couldn’t find the video, but if they said that it was stop motion, I don’t think that’s s a lie.

  • @rm-rf9605

The giant mosaic video is fake sure, but (without having seen it completely) i think it could actually be possible to do in 2 weeks.
You could plan each frame on computer. Then it could calculate the order of the frames an how the cubes need to be solved, so that you can reuse the cubes as often as possible without solving them over and over again. That would actually be a nice programming project.
Btw. what is your opinion on a hybrid attempt? You have a very precise grid to place your cubes on. You solve each "face" you need by hand (but only once), place them on the grid and take a picture. After you have pictures of all faces you need, you put the frames together from the single pictures.

I’m not saying the stop motion mosaic cube videos were real or fake but in the frame you analyzed where half the cubes changed colour, most of the cubes were solved already. All they had to do was flip most of the cubes to the new side. Being generous, I would say it could be done in 3-4 minutes.

    • @SpeedCubeReview

I how much time it takes to make a stop-motion video. I've made a few Stop-motion cubing "solves" videos. Well a few years ago I made a Pyraminx stopmotion video that has a sun beam that moves through out the video. Now when I make these videos I know it can be kinda time consuming and I don't normally take all the photos all one right after the other. I like to take some breaks in between so that I don't feel a bit exhausted when doing this mind-numbing repetitive thing. Plus if you want to get a super good stop-motion video that's about as good as an Aardman Animation video like for say Wallace & Gromit or even Seth Green's Robot Chicken show you would need to have a lot of accurate and careful movements of the objects if you want to have a good 30 fps stopmotion. Also at he same time I have to know fast I need to make each photo/frame to last so that I know that the stop-motion looks smooth and not to fast or too slow. But then again their are some times when I need to adjust some of the photo/frame lengths to be a bit faster or slower depending on the situation.

Just use 2x2 cubes, with each cube being 1 'pixel', the cube colors being white, red, green, blue, black, and green screen 😄

I get that the woman’s hand doesn’t move very much, but they probably solved all of the cubes that made up the background, so they could just rotate the cubes

Indeed I just found out Joe Penna (MysteryGuitarMan) actually had posted on reddit that the video was just an animation made in Blender, The very same day that he uploaded the video!
I'll put the link as a comment

This gives me relief he wasn't trying to cover up anything... I'd rather believe that UA-cam had a different mindset back then and it was okay to "mislead" people. That doesn't make it any more acceptable (he even made a small profit by selling the cubes with his signature on it), but there is context. As for his other videos, his whole gimmick always was making playfully *edited* music videos... Never once admitted to being able to play (even says he can't in one of his skits) and really, you won't find a single video of him *properly* playing an instrument. (Though look at his old videos, especially his most popular one, and you will understand his appeal.)

The one where they "switched" half the colors, couldn't they just flip over the cubes if they're completely solved? Like I believe you that it isnt real but idk if you thought if that

They couldn't just flip the cubes as individual stickers were altered and turned into a checkered pattern. Not just sets of three.

Trombone is fun. I feel my experience with the bow has trained my muscles to move in a similar way as with the slide.

@@SpeedCubeReview I want to learn trombone, but I'm still in high school, as well as marching band, so I don't really have time to learn a new way to play notes, even though the positions roughly translate to fingerings.
