    Hi Steve,. I have that toolpost and just love it. I do find my toolholder stock is slowly growing as the more frequently used tools are so nice to have. It would be hard to go back now. Sure glad you are back now as I enjoy so much watching your videos. I always learn something and the time goes so quickly when your videos are on. Really looking forward to the next ones. Thanks so much.

    Hi Steve. Thanks for your videos I have watched most of the Myford ones as I have a ML7R.I have just purchased the 250-101 gib tool post and 8 holders. I made a block like yours to mount on the cross slide, as the Compound is too high. and using 12mm tools. this works really well. Also made a nut and lever handle to replace the top nut which was 14x 1.5mm on my post
    It make machining a lot more rigid. I am still keeping the Dixon will be good for smaller work.

    Hi Steve. I bought the same tool post. It all works great but, on mine the centre bolt is smaller on the old piston type for some reason! I’m not in the shed right now to measure the old one but the new one is 9/16 18tpi. No great problem but maybe worth mentioning. Thanks for the video👍

    • @stephenmale4492
      @stephenmale4492 4 роки тому

      A correction. They are both 9/16 bolts but one is 18tpi and the other 20tpi. Not earth shattering news I know but, there it is😁

    Chhers for posting this Steve. I have the same 111 toolpost and am going to have a go at copying your mounting plate.
    Can I check why you opted to bore the recess and turn down the original baseplate to fit? Wouldn't it have been easier to tap the hole in your mount to accept the post directly?

      I was wondering this myself. I am making a similar rigid tool post for my Myford out of a block of cast iron and propose to just drill and tap a mounting hole.

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop 4 роки тому +1

      Yes - just undo the nut on top to rotate the toolpost. The lever is just for activating the wedge to fix the tool holder in place. A lot of people make a matching lever-nut to replace the central nut. Some other people modify a ring-spanner/box-wrench by removing the other end, and heating and bending the angle to match (this is what I've done)

    I would like to upgrade my tool post to a quick change post like these but am unsure which one is needed as a direct swap out to the original.

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  4 роки тому

      I made my toolpost block 100mm long X 75mm wide X 20mm thick. It is secured to the cross slide with six 6mm bolts and T-nuts in the Myford ML7 T-slots. That is 3 bolts front and back. The toolpost bolt goes in from the underside of the block so that the flange head (previously turned from the square bolt supplied with the toolpost), fits in a bore up to its shoulder. Regards Steve.

    Good to see you back Steve. I've also got the wedge type toolpost, they are purportedly more rigid than the piston type. The 250-1XX toolholders (there are at least half a dozen types) will fit any of those compatible AXA sized toolposts. Aloris, Phase II, Bostar, etc.
    Regarding fixed toolposts, Robin Renzetti also has a great video on this topic: ua-cam.com/video/pG3YSfgyJPI/v-deo.html
    Back to the toolpost for a second - it hasn't ever been on the lathe and you've got brass knobs on it. Very good :)
    I haven't done the fixed toolpost mod to mine yet, but your video might just provide enough inspiration to get the job done :)

    I see you have fitted thhe 250-111 and the 250-000 to your ML 7, is there any advantage of one over the other?

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Carl. There are no real advantages other than one can take larger shank tools. I only use it because of the fixtures I made up to go on the toolpost. I tend to leave the smaller one on the ML7 now as my Chinese Mini lathe has the same toolpost and I made both the same center height. I can use the tools straight on both lathes without adjustment.
      I only use the larger toolpost after using special fixtures I made up like the toolpost drill...It saves time not having to change back to the smaller one. Regards Steve

    Mmm Not sure about that swarf, should be broken up more than that with the chip-breaker on the tip you're using. Adjusting your speeds and feeds should help.

    • @SteveJordan

Hope to see you making more interesting mods to both your lathes soon. Love your dual oilers they look hard to make accuratly. You do so many things with such limited machines it's sometimes hard to believe. I have the 111 size toolpost on my holbrook c8, it works great like you say. Repeatability of centre height is absolutely fantastic, ease of use unbelievable and the fact it is rarely noticed during use is the sign of slick working parts.
