- Polls suggest an increasing number of young Americans are siding with Palestinians and growing critical of Israel. Successive US administrations across the political divide have backed Israel since it was created in 1948. But polls suggest that public support for Israel in the United States now appears to be waning, especially among young people. A Pew Research study two years ago indicated that only 41 percent in the age group of 18 to 29 had a favourable view of Israel. And many students from this generation are now protesting on university campuses against the war on Gaza, which has killed nearly 35,000 Palestinians. So, is the anger among young Americans highlighting a generational divide in Washington’s policy towards Israel? And what are the reasons reshaping public opinion?

When it comes to fighting evil we should not fear God he wants us to defend ourselves and our children from evil. I would fear these protests escalating and Islam extremists infiltrating and manipulating our youth. This is way deeper and more complicated than most see. My father explained to me in 1967 the situation in Israel/Palestine. He never supported the creation of Israel following WWII and there has always been support for Palestinians, but the Cold War/McCarthy Era silenced anyone with that opinion. Remember, Rachel Corrie and the Olympia Food Co-op 2010 boycott of Israeli goods.

I’m one of the student protestors, and I’ve felt a little sad that I haven’t seen many older people support us. Maybe it’s just my campus. I’ve seen all ages support Columbia, one of the universities taking a horrific beating.
Your presence is so important. Believe it or not, when it can get scary it’s really nice to have grown ups around. Not that we can’t handle ourselves. It’s just comforting.

My father was Irish-German American and what you'd call a liberal zionist (although he never called himself that), but in the late 90s after Bibi came to power especially, he began to notice the difference in tone and rhetoric in the mailings he was getting from all the zionist groups that he donated money to; it became more overtly chauvinistic and contemptuous of the Palestinians and began to speak less and less to non-Jews; the mask began to slip and I know it was troubling him. But he left this world before the 2nd Intifada and hasn't seen all that's happened.... sometimes I'm glad, because it would have broken his heart and shattered him to think that he was deceived into supporting the things that he had always taught me to oppose and to stay vigilant for from a young age. At least God spared him that. He was a good man; a very good man...and when I think about the way that his best virtues and moral impulses were hacked and exploited so cynically... there aren't words for the disgust I feel.

Additionally, the common phrases "Listen to the Youth" or "Children are our future" don't mean listen to every single youth, or every group of youths. After months of listening to Biden's rhetoric and knowing how antagonistic the Republican Party is to grass root movements supporting political change, I am not even slightly surprised at their unified response to the student protests. I agree with the comment that they are listening to AIPAC, although it should also be clear by now that Biden thinks he is the smartest person in the room, and his misperception of himself is exacerbating the situation. It's money and ego that are effectively driving the US complicity in war crimes. It's a tragedy on a horrific scale.
Biden is clearly not capable of organizing any of this. He has handlers. You people talk of Biden as if he is a functioning lucid person. So who are the people behind the scenes? Probably the inner workings of the Democratic party, faces you don't get to see.

But a generational gap exists nonetheless, as outlined in the video. It is true that students are displaying more morality and courage. It also has to do with the echo-chamber one is accustomed to. Assuming that many in the older generation are more Right wing, they are lost in that echo-chamber regarding any truth on this issue. Students are also in a better position to protest because less personal risk is assumed. They're not employed and don't have a job to lose.
