You should try restarting with the latest version. It might solve a lot of the problems you had. Also, try playing without having your base attacked. It will make things easier until you learn how to defend bases.

Yeah, I was too far behind and lost so much valuables that too me it only made sense.

Glad to see you starting again, you will do great. In the settings before you start the game, uncheck the death penalty so you keep your backpack on death.
