My old man introduced me to John Martyn’s music, he first saw him at Sydney university (Australia) in and around this time of recording, perhaps earlier .. I’ll always have a wonderful memory of the first time I heard this very song with my dad. Also .. This guy is a proper rockstar
This does not have as many views as it deserves?.. but the best stuff on youtube has few views, in my experience. It's about serious "substance" & this is a very 'substantial' upload. It's been in my favourites since I 1st heard it here. Many thanks for upload.
John broke a string before he played this. (there is/was a video of this) Hence the unorthodox tuning.? John was pulling string pegs with his teeth & joking with audience about the request for this song. Then he played....
Madly in love with John Martyn and This song has been my favorite since the 70's. My greatest regret is never seeing him live.
Complete genius. So glad this is available to watch over 30 years after the event. Always a legend. John Martyn.
PERFECTION
I think I am grateful for life to find John Martyn on this long and winding road... Music for life. Rest well dear Ian David (John Martyn)!!

Always brings tears to my eyes, this earlier live performance, especially.... god bless Nick, and John for remembering him.
Love his music
Damn this guy is overpowered
Giving me goosebumps on some RL Stine
The guy was just awesome.
Wow, so many GREAT performances of this on YT. But I think this one is my favorite. Mind you, I adore Danny Thompson. Thanks for putting this up!
Thompson? Pentangle bass player?

Probably the best performance of solid air, though I think he goes off a bit too long at the end haha
