This is the three part song put all into one. Please enjoy. I own no rights to the songs in this video. All credit goes to James Brown and Polydor Records.
This was a poem written by Manny Rosen, a friend of Brown's, after Rosen's daughter passed away due to an OD. James Brown added "this is a revolution of the mind" to the lyrics towards the end of the song as a reference to his live double album from the Apollo in 1971. Thought those were interesting facts about the song, so figured I'd share.
Just wondering did Manny Rosen wrote the entire all three parts? Or just the opening poem? Very interesting fact about iths actually thanks for sharing 👍👍
I’ll never forget when i first heard all of these songs i was hooked on heroin, crying cus i was sick and i hated myself. Now it’s been 3 years since i got clean and i still cry when i hear them cus i was so hopeless back then on the street dead broke toxic man in my life, then a overdose on the 9.12.2017 made me go cold turky on 11.12.2017 and since then i’m clean. I’m happy have an apartment and a boyfrend who loves me uncondisinaly. I hope you are all staying safe and i hope if you’re getting of drugs stay strong you can do it! And to all of you that got of drugs bravo👏, and to everyone who never tried drugs DON’T! Peace to all who read this and thank you for reading. Edit : still clean today it’s been 4 years! Every time I here this it gives me chills, because James speaks the truth. This song is beyond deep...True poetic suspense! He makes your thoughts travel to a dark place.
My name is Gabe, im a 23 yo recovering heroin addict. I live in AZ where this shit is a plague. Too many have been lost everywhere. I can only say that I must stay sober for not just myself, but for my fellows. Just the other day I ran into a young man at a gas station that was in deep. I gave him $20 dollars to get some food in his stomach. I gave him a hug and told him I care. I was overcame with emotion because I was looking at myself. So I continue to never look down on anyone still struggling. We can't save everyone, but we cant give up. ✌☝❤
You've become a preacher, a teacher, a philosopher, an artist, a God. Your commitment to social justice, unconditional love for the others, this empathy comes only from someone who has also truly suffered. Wishing for a better world an society is noble, maybe the ultimate virtue. This makes you a God Mr. James Brown. We need more people like you in this crazy world. Forever thankful for your legacy and infinite wisdom
Rest in peace Katie. To other people who are hooked on Heroin i pray for you everyday. James Brown is amazing and his song Try Me is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. The person I love the most in this world is a heroin addict. Beeb i love you no matter what. I don't express myself the right way to you. It hurts you and in turn hurts me ten times more. i know you will get past this phase in your life. You are the strongest most beautiful human I have ever met. You amaze me every day. I also learn from you every day. I will be here when you decide to take your life back.
How can you not love this man and his work? 73 was way too young for him, But i believe his work will never die still this today..when i'm down..I listen and get up
Exactly. He was so ahead of his time. That this can actually refer to ANY drug era,ever.. the 50s,60s, 70s for Dope. The 80s & 90s for crack & coke. The 2000s to now, molly, meth, syrup and whatever else you can think of. This is pure genius, but they never played it on the radio, then or NOW.. let that sink in.. ✌🏾❤
Well really if you got pharmaceutical heroin you could function no trouble with x amount daily. Crack is bit more impossible to do so strange they managed to get it into suburbs of certain places. Glad it spread in the more upper class areas. Aimed was precise. But went to more fancy areas. Really if on heroin biggest problem is cut with / by idiots. If go collect daily dose work and no dramas. But only few countries have decided to make heroin safe. Safer than street. No? Bad yes.
Anyone who has never tried it and been through it will truly never know how painful heroin addiction is. It takes a piece of your soul and leaves a void within you. God bless us all 🙏
I wish our young people would listen to some of this Ole' School Music...this is what we had once upon a time; during the civil rights era as it took to the 60's and finally the 70's. Wake up children, THIS STILL APPLIES TODAY!!!!!! BE SMART AND STAY IN SCHOOL...Education is the key. God bless.
+SarekParks you have a valid point mam yet it is on those of us who know the pillars of understanding to point the true way come even the tyranny of rebellion, they must be made aware of the keys in their hands that unlock their futures.
I would really love to see the community do much better than we do. Us young folk shouldn't be right out of high school and already know people who are lost in dope and/or gettin killed in the street. Its sad man. I'm only 21 now, I have an uncle serving 15 years fed time over cocaine after serving 4 years state time, I have another uncle who was murdered over dope and cash before I was born, both of my granddads were alcoholics and died young before I was born .. Almost all my cousins on one side of the family have been or are currently hooked on Opiates, and I already know 3 guys I knew from grade school that have been shot and killed over dope or gang violence. I don't give a damn what color you are or where you come from, the sorrow is all the same when it comes to this shit. People gotta do better. Too many single mothers and fatherless homes on all sides.
LaRue Nedd this actually came out in the early 70’s , I heard it as a kid from my siblings record collection. It really stayed I’m my mind and helped me not to have any interest in drugs whatsoever! In fact , it scared me in a respectful way. Thanks James 🤔
This song hit home so hard... gets right to my heart... my father died an addict and my big bro is still caught up in the deepest darkest place of heroin... This is an amazing song.
I know people right now who is caught up! It is so sad! And one of them is one of my older brothers. Been on the shit since he was 16, around the time when our mom died! It has destroyed his life!

I haven't had any experiences with Heroin or any drugs in general (with the exception of smoking a joint) but this hits me deep as hell. Only James Brown could do a song like this.

It's ironic that decades later, this very dope tune from a brother Augusta, GA would later be a inspiration for another soulful brother from Chicago, IL ( BJ The Chicago Kid)
“And when you come out the nod you’ll always be aware, you shot every drop of your heart now it’s full of fear. Now you must rush out hit another sting & praise me as old heroin the king.”
I loved this song as a youngster, but it took until I was an adult to really understand what it was REALLY about. DANG now I see James was on the money. I have looked at people in my neighborhood and his words play in my head....

came upon this tonight, after clean for 2 days, but unf had to dose, thanks James, and I know what you mean brother....worst feeling in the world coming off this s., imagine your worst nightmare, but awake...
If we were to be brutally honest, then we would both agree that you didn't have to dose...you chose to dose. Of course your physical body wasn't helping you but at the end of the day you said yes. you opened yourself up to a spiritual dimension where demons and fallen angels prowl day and night looking for foolish humans to devour. I know of a demon whose domain is darkness and whose name is addiction. Surely you know him. Tell me, what is the ONE thing that can overcome darkness? Turn a light on in a dark room and watch the darkness run away. Who said "I AM the LIGHT of the world"? Yeah, you know. Call upon him, he's been waiting for you.
I am so blessed that I gave it up when I did🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾...I have lost so many people that I love and people in passing just be very careful who you leave your children with and never turn your back on them it’s been 26 years since I have taste or even looked at that so called king again the only king I know is my lord and savior amen 🙏🏾
I've been off and on for over 50 years from a foolish teenager to late adulthood. I was functional but forfeited my soul to Heroin. I made my bed and laid in it. It's a lifelong struggle as it goes, but today, I have my divine gift of life (but broke), know who I am, and believe wholeheartedly that all things are possible without dope.
If they play this at the beginning of every AA meeting,...... man ooh man.. Any form of life in that room with an ounce of a soul left in that body should feel some kind of way.
Now that I am so old ..I can see better than ever...I see all the terrible addiction that consumed ever part of my young life. By the MERCY of GOD I am still alive. Please if you are young listen to these words ..Life is so short and Not many survive the horror's of addiction. Listen and try ..to understand what I am saying... drugs destroy you dreams. This old man's knows by experience... it's never to late. God loves you that is why you're reading this today. God Bless You and Keep you Safe

You can never hide from the truth.
That'll so true, can't hide from truth and problems.

This is a very true song, the white horse of hell is no joke, James Brown soul brotha #1
Addiction is a Monster !
He went in on Part 2… shout out to the JBs
I've been off and on for over 50 years from a foolish teenager to late adulthood. I was functional but forfeited my soul to Heroin. I made my bed and laid in it. It's a lifelong struggle as it goes, but today, I have my divine gift of life (but broke), know who I am, and believe wholeheartedly that all things are possible without dope.
This song is still played on the radio even today. How important to stay away from drugs. James Brown knew the dangers and he made it known to all.
Not only is it King Heroin, today it is also King Norco, King Xanax, King Percocet
Mandana Dowlatshahi Facts
Mandana Dowlatshahi FACTS!! ITS A BUSINESS!
If they play this at the beginning of every AA meeting,...... man ooh man.. Any form of life in that room with an ounce of a soul left in that body should feel some kind of way.
Suggest that it be a part of therapy!
It has to start somewhere.
That is a grand idea!
This is coming from the soul brother Numero Uno The Godfather of Soul James Brown laying it down
