- The coolant temp alarm came on while I was running my mini digger, the gauge was showing low temp so I knew there must be a fault somewhere, turned out to be a blown diode.

I've just got my hands on a new fandangled circuit tester/multimeter, and now I need lessons in how to use it. Thanks for _"Practical Circuit Testing Lesson #1"_ Marty.
If you took it to a shop, they would hand you a bill for 2 grand and they would say it was fixed but it wouldn't be fixed. When you brought it back a second time, they'd say it was junk and you need to buy a new mini excavator. Great job Marty.
And then offer to take it off your hands for $500
@@Drmcclung .... having already a buyer on backburner that'll give 'em 2 more grand for it. Plus they have You on the hook with their unrepairable "new" crap.
Also notice if you are in Invercargill they always say they have to get the part from Auckland, and if you live in Auckland they say the only spare part available is in Invercargill when it was in their storeroom all along, the big courier fee con job, I call them out and say to them that my mate who lives there can call around and pick the part up for me, the look on their faces is priceless, many many times they try this BS,
@@Drmcclung Wow so true!!
@@thebeerhunter7307 I'm sorry that you guys have to deal with such a BS in NZ. Same story takes place in Germany where car garages and other specialized supply stores would tell you that they can "order it from the other store" but fortunately they won't charge you for it. That's only because it would lose them a customer to eBay or other online stores if they would.
Your skills at fixing machinery is amazing. But what’s more amazing is your ability to film it all in such detail!
it's one thing to fix mechanical issues but to have the knowledge to fix electrical also is essential. nice job Marty really nice job!
yes, he is great at finding and fixing the mechanical issues but he is also just awesome at the electrical side of things. Thats where he really stands out to me, many people get lost when it comes to all the wires and circuit boards on things, he seems to just know so much about a lot of stuff.
When you go past simple switches and relays into semiconductors and signals it's no longer an electrical issue, it's an electronic one.
Hello Marty. That is why you save things that seemingly have no value until you need a spare part. Have good days!
I heard a deadly Barking Spider @4:24, best to be on the lookout Marty, stay safe 👍
I thought it was the actual moment the diode blew 😆
Well done and the rare South Island duck could be heard in the background at 4:25 if I’m not mistaken. Often heard but never seen.
in the late 70s we began to phase out Board level repairs, dumbing down the repair man's skills. Good to see you are a true repair man! carry on young man. Paul Munroe hydraulics service tech retired.
Marty you have found the 'type O' zener diode there! great logical fault finding as usual and it saved the current 6 month wait for spares due to the ubiquitous 'Supply chain issues"
Brilliant diagnosis and repair. I'm a fossil, so if it can't be diagnosed with a 12V test light, I'm stumped. I find it amazing that you can troubleshoot and correct things like this just by looking and a few careful soldered joints. My hat's off to you, Marty!
4:25 you found a barking spider under there 😂

Nice Marty, finding the fault saved going to the next step, disconnecting the alarm.
I'm a little surprised a man of your talents doesn't have a spray can of circut board cleaner around, I wouldn't be without it.
Marty your range of skills and knowledge continually impresses me. Bravo!
The Russians should have called Marty to sort out that busted Soyuz capsule at the space station. There isn't anything he can't fix!
Plus it gets new oil and filters for good measure
Best comment!

I think they did, but called his repair to simple and redneck to use in space. 😉😁🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha
Marty T . I live in Sweden and look at your films every time there is a new one , even your old films . Sorry my english is not the best , but I do my best .
Under nearly 50 years my work has been to make excavaters ( Åkermans and Volvo ) in Eslöv , and I like to see when you fix this old maskines whit simpel things .
I am looking forward all the time to see a new movie from you . From Sweden . Peter Christersson .
The beauty of old machinery, always something to fix! As always love the videos Marty 😁
Beauty of old machinery. You can always fix it
@@SmallKittyPaw in realitiy not that old, has a circuit board, its just over the years we went from no circuit boards to lots and the one thing as I have noticed in all electronic equipment that fails is because of either heat damage, corrosion or short circuit, not because it old
The most common repair for the ABS light in the semi trucks is a piece of tape over the light in the dash.
😂
Looking forward to seeing the band saw in action! And glad your making the most of the fallen trees.
Thanks for inspiring me to fix my furnace. Had to install a new thermostat but incorrectly wired it. Called Thermostat people and they said I had to call a professional to diagnose problem. As nothing worked, so watched a few youtube videos, found a blown fuse, replaced it and all is well.
I recently found your channel through a YT suggested video for the T9 rescue. Now I am binge watching my way through. :)
Glad you found problem. Sometimes finding the issue is way harder than the issue itself.
Yes, Marty T... my school class love watching these videos. Many thanks from Oklahoma.
It's so therapeutic diagnosing vehicle electronics, I find. Its something once I was terrified to do, and nowadays I love doing it. Take a systematic approach, test all components, there's always an easy fix :)
Any tips? I'm good at fixing mechanical stuff but my electrical knowledge basically consists of me sticking a fork to an alternator to test if it's working!
“Easy as that…” 😂 lol just soldering some diodes on the PCBs
The words "... band saw mill... " were heard by all, and a hush fell over the crowd.
Love the bonus fart at 4.25 Marty gold 😂
”As simple as that!" he says with glee. At the same time, I'm sitting here in awe and thinking it's easy if your name is Marty T. I wouldn't even know how to go about fixing it even in the unlikely event that I'd identify the problem in the first place!
I demand you make your videos longer! They're always captivating, and I always look forward to getting a notification that a new one is available. DIY is the only way to go.
Another awesome video example of what you can do in the field without throwing parts at a problem with unlimited financial resources. Or schematics & fancy test equipment. I’m sure that circuit board is hundreds of dollars even if it’s available. Well done Marty your abilities to think things through never cease to amaze me.
Great job mate, where most would have just checked the water level and silenced the beeber, you did a proper fix. Cheers from Wellington, Phil.
That sweet feeling of success! Nice! Now some WD to prevent rust and a roof for minidigger to prevent moisture and rusting next component!
What a great evening...another Marty 'fixes the world' video on yet another piece of equipment I'll never know anything about. The guy is a genius...
Re-engineer a PCB and "It's as easy as that!". You are a star.
Can't wait until you get the new mill set up and working for you
Most of don’t know what a diode is let alone replace it,well done Marty.
Always enjoy your videos, I've been turning wrenches for 42 years. Just enjoy your patience. Keep up the amazing work 👍😎
Here's a zener diode, we'll try that and see what happens. It worked!
Makes it look sp easy , i would have strangled my self on the cooling fan trying to chase the fault lol keep it up marty
Troubleshooting to the component level is old school tech.
Diode Problems - glad You had a Spare Circuit Board with same Value Diode - what a Quick Fix - You are a Fantastic Trouble Shooter - well dome my Friend - Congrats ! Many Cheers from us in Australia !!!! Excavating for a Band Saw Unit to Processing fallen Tree Wood !
More patience than me, I would’ve just ripped the buzzer out 😂
that was my first thought, lol, that and take the bulb out
@ 4:26 he has is own buzzer 😂💩
"As easy as that!" The days of discreet components are long gone! Nicely done.
The real problem with old equipment...It's old...Sorta like us older guys...cranky & creaking and complain a lot...but with a little tweaking we can keep chugging along 🙂
So a blown zener diode simply speaking just won't regulate, so you did well to replace it with a similar rated component mate.👍😏🇬🇧
Wish you were my neighbour, brilliant yet again. 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
andrew camarata had issues with his yanmar and the temp light/alarm also. His was not a circuit board though. Must be something common on yanmars. Great fix!! That machine gets a lot of work it deserves a good washing up. :)
Long time viewer here in New Jersey, USA. I always liked your common sense approach to solving problems. Your wife is a keeper to a;;ow you to do all these things. Best wishes, Joe
Electronic components do not last forever. There are electronic components in power boards. Check your power boards for getting warm/brown "stains" on the plastic casing which indicate interior electronic component failure. Stay safe everybody! 🙂
If you listen closely @ 0:58 and again @ 4:25 Marty locates a warm brown stain
Skip to 4:24 to hear Marty shit himself on UA-cam.🤣
Hahahaha! Good catch.
I died laughing too!!! Hahahaha
"A bit more choke and that would have started" 🤣
The ghost of breakfast past ...
That's the New Zealand Toot Bird....
Just like Mustie on YT, you need a spare everything to fix these older machines. Good onya Marty!
I keep old blown circuit boards just incase I need a particular component
" Easy fix " Of course , Marty your so brilliant . Thanks for the video , glad to see you've been able to get back onto your land . Happy New year .
Your skills never cease to amaze me with repairing things
Nice video again Marty, bit windy at 4:25 😆 you may need some shelter!
Great videos and your problem solving techniques are the best !!, always look forward to the videos , take care you and family….. dave from New Jersey USA
I love it when people troubleshoot before they make a big thing out of something you can fix, you did an excellent job !
Well done Marty!. I am still trying to get my head around these diodes and capacitors and do play around with them trying to stop throwing things out with circuit boards that have a problem. Obviously, the main thing is to have parts to fall back on, which you have. Understand how a circuit board works is also a big problem but once you get your head around it a lot of money is saved. The unbeleivable thing about circuit board circuitry if a diode or similar blows, to change out and the cost for the componets is sometimes just 50cents! Better than having to try and get a replacement board for many hundreds of $'s. Regards
When it comes to circuit boards I wouldn't have a clue!! Good thing YOU know what you're doing!! LOL!! Nice little excavator!
Love when you said 'easy as that', most of my family couldn't even replace a car battery :)
Re your diode, probably best to proper inspect the wire loom, its a protection diode, blew up for a reason!
Pretty amazing diagnosis. Way to go Marty
After the apocalypse we’re putting you in charge!
Love the way you say, "well that was an easy fix". It would have stopped many others, but your the man! Well done
Hope you, family and friends are all ok with the flooding up north, stay safe bro!
Looking forward to the mill, and hoping you'll video it's assembly and boat ride(s).
impressive fixing skills. I always get nervous pulling things apart because I'm worried that I won’t be able to put them together again.
Thats the beauty of filming the process.. if I forget I can check the footage 😅
I do the same I think it already not working why take it apart I can't hurt it
Thanks dor rhis video Marty. Very nice example of trobleshooting!
Also i like the idea of a sawmill for using the fallen trees. Just can't wait to see the mill and the sawing acrivities.
Cool. Looking forward to seeing your new sawmill.
Yup, beat me to it. Casually states I’ve picked up a band saw mill. No elaborated explanation so now we await🧐
Great troubleshooting Marty. Thanks for the video! Keep 'em coming, everyone love this channel.
your skill never cease to amaze me sir!
Marty is the engine whisperer….
A nice repair at no real cost! Kudos Marty! 😊
Marty får det til. Tusen takk for videoen. 👍🤗👍🇸🇯
Never cease to amaze.
Hope you're keeping safe over there with all that rain chap!
Might need to start building an ark
".... so found such a diode on this old circuit board ..." Most relatable reason for being a hoarder so far this year. 😅😂
It's only hoarding if you don't use it.
@@bige.3474 Every hoarder is convinced they'll use every bit once upon a time in their future, and it's not used until it is.
Well done Sir! It’s always satisfying working the problem, you’re very resourceful Marty, I’m 30 Years on the spanners, I’ll have a dig around, may be able to find you a wiring diagram 😊
Nice work as usual Marty. Good to hear you paying tribute to Rambro as well.
Good fix! If inbound try swapping out diodes I would have burnt my machine to the ground just my luck I guess lol. Love seeing things being fixed properly without throwing new parts at them! Can't wait to see the sawmill!!!!
Nice work! It sure does pay to hang on to "almost" everything, you never know when you'll need it. I HATE when I throw something away after YEARS of keeping it only to need it one month after I tossed it, Murphy's Law.. Thanks Marty
I learn so much from watching your channel Marty cheers 👍🏻🏴
Brilliant using what you have on hand thanks for sharing Marty
Your electronics skills on top of the mechanical has always impressed me. That is a big reason that I am here to learn - or at least pretend to learn. I learn best by putting a paycheck into a broken down machine with the only option being to fix it.
Good use of that key at the 4:00 mark! My Dad used to say, “make do with what you got!”
Hey Marty Happy New Year - Love the delicate use of a tooth brush @ 5:20 - bush craft repairs - your the king!
Nice job on diagnosing/detecting that problem Marty! Great video thumbs up.
Just found your channel, it's really good, thoroughly enjoy your videos.
Always something fun to watch if Marty is one it.
Hope you are not getting rained out again, good luck to all getting so much rain over there just lately.
No thankfully it didn't affect us down here
dayum dude, you _never_ cease to amaze! *respect.*
As soon as you said "That's the buzzer there", I thought, great! Cut that off and we're back in business! haha
Hope you are your family are safe from the flooding
Well, that's a really good place to put stuff, right under the seat ! I guess if you are limited with space every nook and cranny counts ! Good job, have a great week end.
A new Marty T video for a prefect Saturday! Grabs large mug of tea and watches!
Contact cleaner on those circuit boards can be helpful without damaging the components. I greatly enjoy your videos.
Yes I would usually do that but I have very basic tools on the island so had to improvise
@@MartyT You're on an island now, where's that?
@@MartyT all I can say is your the best you always find a way to sort the problem 👍
Easy fixed. Nothing is ever easy, you just make it look easy.
Of course ALL dealers HATE component level repairs. 🤣🤣🤔🤑 Thanks for the vid and well done. ... Jim Bell (Australia)
Hey Marty! "Nice easy fix" haha,,,, maybe for you, but for some of us - like me - the diode thing is way out of our league! Thanks for sharing!
Good job. It took skill to trace the problem but you have to give a nod to luck with regard to finding a circuit board with a diode of sufficiently similar value. I rarely have that kind of luck but I guess that’s what makes you the junk whisperer of all NZ. A pleasure to watch, as always. Looking forward to see the mill set up and making fine timber. 🥸🎆💨👀🔨🔧👍✅
Great video Marty and thank you for sharing .
