The Ace Ops, compared to other side-characters arcs in RWBY was defiantly one of the better written arcs of the entire show. They all have flaws that are actual flaws that you see constantly, and have actual reasoning for their actions. This arc for them was important for them to face those flaws, and further better the plot of RWBY.
It wasn't Vine's death that got me... It was Harriet screaming "no". It was so gut wrenching and pained. The same with Penny. It wasn't the fact she was dead, it was Jaune, screaming and in so much pain. CRWBY really out here traumatising every character
It’s interesting to me how so many people think the ace-ops Ironwood acting irrationally is bad writing. Their whole story is about the refusal to acknowledge that their emotions are guiding their actions and that causing them to act irrationally. When you refuse to process how you feel, those feelings come out in incredibly destructive ways-and if you have no self-awareness, like Ironwood and like Hare, you don’t question whether your actions are justified or not. At least, not until it’s too late. Sometimes, you do just need to hear something from someone that triggers you and breaks through those layers and exposes what you’ve been denying like Hare got when in that final moment. Other times, you need everything to go wrong to face the fact that it’s your fault. And sometimes, you don’t ever catch on to reality. Honestly I’m less frustrated with the writing than I am with the so-called “fan” base for calling it bad writing until a character literally spells out exactly what the point was-whether it’s Watts calling out Cinder or Ren calling out the Ace-Ops. We shouldn’t need to be told exactly what’s going on to understand what the writers are telling us. I know I don’t. I bet if I did completely ignored any subtext I’d be frustrated with the writing too.
A-frickin'-men, Adam!!! 👏👏👏👏 Sadly, those who should read your thoughts are the same ones who'll continue to Hate-watching RWBY. NEVER HAPPY AND NEGATIVELY CRITICAL TO THE LAST!! LOL God bless them all.... Without them we couldn't truly love the series as much. 😎👍🌹💗🔥
The fact that vine's "shell" didn't burst immediately meant that he lived for a couple seconds after the bomb went off then died. Probably one of the most overlooked parts about a "massive explosion self sacrifice".
I figure he was using his feat to cover himself as well. SO it was a two layer. Just long enough to contain it... though i kind of think he should've focused it up or to the side
It will definitely be interesting to see, how the Ace Ops will develop as characters in the future. Especially Harriet. Also Rip to my boy Vine. Went out like a true friend ...
Am I the only one who actually liked vine? I though he was awesome, marrow too. I was upset that vine went out because of Harriets stubbornness but what can you do...~(-.-)~
I think Vine was an interesting character. Very serene and wise. Although, I wish we knew more about him. I would've loved to learn about his past, motivations, childhood, etc. Also, Vine could've formed a shield around the warhead from the outside instead.
It’s going to be really interesting seeing how the ace Ops developed in the future especially dealing with their feelings of grief and guilt over vines death.
Im not super happy about how Harriet's progression's made but Im glad at the end they realized/became friends. Im curious if Elm will respond Nora's friend request in early of v7 after this.
So to put it simply... Harriet had feelings for Clover? If she had a deeper connection with clover than we thought, I would’ve liked to have seen that in volume 7 more. IDK, it just feels kind of spontaneous. Like it happened out of nowhere. It’s one thing to be upset about Clover’s death (seeing as he was a comrade of hers), but she was the most affected amongst the Ace Ops.
Or, he was just her friend and her training forced her to repress that? Someone can be very important to you without the need for romantic interest. That's what friendship is, and losing a true friend hurts just as much as losing a lover.
Clover, good luck happens to those around him, Greatly benefited the ace ops. When he died, relationships started to fall apart for unfortunate reasons. but that was just that loss of his ability.
Despite the Ace ops becoming antagonists of team RWBY due to Ironwood's deteriorating sanity, I'm glad that the team learned the value of their friendship. Too bad they had to lose Vine and Clover in the process. Elm Ederne is my favorite of the Ace ops.
Vine's death is kinda like that time when he was fighting with Blake and Yang where Blake used her semblance to carry Yang's explosives and Vine catched Blake with the explosive
The only thing that really bugs me about Vines' death is... couldn't he have used his semblance to just encase the bomb and push it higher and away from his body?
I personally think that the "shell" that Vine created was pushing his aura to the point where it would have broke if it had continued for 5 more seconds. Also that "shell" was massive, given that when it puffed up it could be clearly seen from more that 25,000ft away (I'd have to estimate that the shell was more than a quarter of a mile wide).
The issue i see with that is that even if they're durable, his semblance clearly does involve his *actual* hands too a degree, the semblance sprouts from them after all. That bomb was meant to be able to blow up the giant whale Grimm, it was basically the closest thing to a nuclear bomb they have. Chances are no matter how he tried to contain it, that blast would absolutely kill him regardless. If not through his semblance, then through his aura and hands, and probably the rest of his body anyways.
I agree that loyalty does matter but it really depends on where you stand with it If I know one of my friends is making a bad choice I would help them change their mind not keep it going
Harriet really thought that loyalty is what matters among everything else just because she learned it from clover? Well, if Clover himself had everything that Ironwood had done within just the past 24 hours, does she really think that he would have agreed to go so far as to help aid and abet in a plan to commit domestic terrorism?
I want to make note of something. Qrow was Ahead of the ship flying back toward it. Meaning Qrow as a bird flew faster than an Atlas military grade transport ship by such a speed that he managed to get far ahead and turn around to fly back toward the ship from such a distance.
5:57 the first time in the entire story were Vine expressed strong emotions. I think it wasn't the reaction itself what caused him to start reconsidering his stance as much as his own surprise at it, as Vine realized his own bias at the thought of Marrow dying in contrast with the excution of the councilman
I just realized... That vine is dead (the thing before tik tok) and now Vine is dead too. If the writers did this on purpose...🤣🤣🤣🤣 it's sad... But it's funny.
Any one else feel that the ace ops are simalir to team jnr- marrow acts like jaune goofy wise, vines personilty is kinda like rens(v7 ep 5) and elm well goes with out saying-nora
considering that the bomb was basically a nuke, i doubt that would have worked. look how far the others had to fly away. this seemed to have pushed his semblance to the limit. he likely wouldn't have been able to make the shell and extend his arms enough to get out the blast range.
by the time the Ace-ops were able to accept the Magic of Friendship, it was too late for one of their friends. Now, they can let the magic of friendship grow inside them.

Me personally, I loved the Ace Ops, but it did feel like Harriet’s arc was resolved rather abruptly. I get that their team symbolized the danger of pushing down one’s emotions and foregoing connection, which is why they initially lost to RWBY, but I did feel like Harriet changed her mind a bit too quickly as soon as Trunk said they were friends. I dunno, it felt like they could’ve taken another minute to have her be unsure instead of going from oen extreme to the other.
As an aside I don't see mentioned much elsewhere, it's sad seeing how the respect and admiration RWBY&CO had for the Ace-Ops was completely destroyed and will probably never be restored.
