Hi there....I have to correct one thing regarding wild camping in Iceland. If you are hiking or cycling, it is allowed to wild camp for one night in no more than three tents if you are a group. It needs to be on land that is somewhat away from habitation, and a reasonable distance from an organized campsite. It is not allowed within a fenced in area and on cultivated land. The landowner can prohibit camping on his land but there has to be a clear signpost saying so beforehand. Of course it is always wise and courteous to ask the neighbouring farm if there is a spot where you can camp if you are hiking or on a bicycle. I fully agree with this law all until you reach the highlands. There is a plethora of campsites along the coast and in the small towns where you can camp if you are in a car. But when you get into the highlands that is another matter. Travelling there takes a lot more time and organized campsites are a bit few and far between. Of course the rule of the responsible camper should always apply, camping wild or on a campsite. Leave the area as you found it or better.
Wow, great vid, tells you everything you need to know! Most importantly, it tells you what I think a lot of travel videos miss; RESPECT THE AREA! Thanks!
Love your tips and your wonderful delivery on camera:). And I love your quick professional intro. You seem a pro in your camera ease 😃 A quick “protip” suggestion on your filming: when you finish a thought or segment, you look at your notes. And when that happens we see your eyes look downward nearly every time. Looking down breaks the visual flow for audience (when filmed especially), so perhaps either: wait longer after a sentence to look down so that you can edit the cut before your eyes drop, or use poster on easel or wall behind the camera so that your eyes stay high at sentence completion. Again I love your videos nonetheless and enjoy seeing the next come out. Thank you for your beautiful work!
Super informative! We camped in April and I'm in the middle of editing those videos. It's true how different each of the campgrounds were -- from super basic to really nice amenities. It was a bit difficult to find info on the campgrounds ahead of the trip, but I think that mystery just added to our adventure. ;)
We are going this April. We’re you able to use the summer campsites even though they weren’t open? I’ve read some articles say you can use them even though they are closed but you don’t have access to the shower and other amenities that are normally available during the summer.
@@nathanstepp86 Have a great trip! That information was really hard for me to find in advance, but I found that a few of the campsites that I was unsure about had little signs up about their winter policies. So, for example, at one campground we were able to park there over night and use the restrooms. The showers were closed, though. That particular spot only asked for a deposit to be left in a lockbox.
The Happy Campers-Map is SO helpful! Seriously, that’s all we used to choose our campgrounds (plus Jeannie’s map for the rest of our planning and finding our way) :) Btw, for all of you guys planning to stay at the Mosskogar Campsite close to Reykjavík: They do not take cards for payment, cash only! It is a very unique, beautiful and charming campsite though, so don’t let the payment-method keep you from going there :)
Love what you are doing! Thanks for taking the mystery out of Iceland. My son and I are coming up next week and there is one question I cannot find an answer to...it is.... If a campsite is closed, can we still camp there?
For the most part, yes, BUT if the campsite is closed the toilets, showers, kitchen, electricity hook ups, etc. will not be available. Take a look at tjalda.is to figure out which campsites will be best for you to stay at given your route and timing.
The Wife and I live in Germany. We took our F250 4X4 with slide in Truck Camper, it has all of the comforts of home. We blasted all over Iceland, but be aware of the road and weather conditions, you can find this info at most information center or at the camp grounds. most all the Camp Grounds have bathrooms and showers. we have this in our Rig but used the camp ground facilities when we could less water drainage if you Know what I mean. The only thing I didn't like were the tent campers that use our Rig to block the Wind or tie there tents to my Truck when we wanted to leave I would ask the person to untie there tent they would tell me they didn't want to get up, when they gave me flack I cut the ropes and went on. the wife and I are going to do the trip again with the same Rig, this time spend more time in one spot drop the camper and do more 4X4in, if you Grave the time of your life do Iceland.
I want to go camping in Iceland in early August. I noticed on the tjalda website that some campsites do not allow open flame, does that mean I cannot cook with a rented gas cooker too?
Traveling in two days 😱 first camping experience in a van.. tried buying your ebook but payment Apple Pay failed I’m going to have to try again tomorrow!
If your rental car can provide you with the comfort and amenities you need then go for it - as long as you are parked/sleeping at a designated camping ground. Keep in mind that your car will be COLD and you won't be able to charge your devices while the car is off.
Hi there! Thank you for watching! If you're staying in mountain huts along the trail you'll need to book your stay online and yes, you can pay with a card. However, paying with a card on site for goods and/or camping, you're best to stick with cash because the internet connection can be spotty and unreliable. Great question!
Can you use Summer campsites in April even though they aren’t open? I read an article that said that you can use them when they are closed just no access to the amenities that are normally available when they are open.
Yep, that's exactly right. There are a good number of year-round campsites as well - check out tjalda.is/ for the most comprehensive information regarding campsites!
What do people do for firewood? There's no trees. I don't get how this country is even a thing without trees! Viking's really did a number on the land. What about all the buildings? Is all the wood imported to build them?
Thanks for your comment Josh! Discussing the topic of trees - the lack of them, and how Iceland gets by without them - would make for interesting content. Thanks for the idea!
Hi there! Great idea and great question! I recommend contacting your airline. I've read that because of the heating element inside, some airlines will allow MREs in checked bags only and some airlines don't allow them at all. Good luck and let me know what you find out!
this might be a weird question, but what about "using nature as your toilet"? in Switzerland, i'm used to being able to go behind a bush if i'm hiking or in the woods (obv. not just anywhere! 😂). Is that a thing in Iceland?
Hi!!Thank you very for your tips it's really helpful. 🙏 We are now planning our trip in September from 15-26 We're already checking the Happy Camper but seems that they're no camper van available. Do you have any other company to recommend?
Hi guys! I’m going to trip around Ring Road from 19 to 30 Semptember. I have some questions for people who already did this kind of travel since i found really conflicting opinions on travelling with campervan on late semptember. - Are we going to find issues for the wind with driving in a small campervan (Fiat Dobló Maxi) ? - Where can i find a list of which campsites is open in that period? - Can someone give me suggestions/itinerary? Thank you very much.
Well, I don't know how I came across to your channel. Have watched many videos, but in the end, it was not clear how did you manage to relocate to Iceland. I mean, which kind of visa did you get? how did you manage to get it? Roughly, how much money is needed to live a year there? Could you answer or make a video about it? Thanks in advance. Cheers!
hey there :) I read that camping in a tent outside official campgrounds is allowed if you're not on private property and away from civilication, is that true?
Sorry but havn’t they made rgulations and new Law - It’s not allowed outside campground ? Huum You mention it half Way into The video 😊 so no camping outside campground nor Campervan or tent 😢
Planning on making the trip in the first half of September 2021. We are wanting to do the campervan and also access some F-roads. I know that 4x4 are required for F-roads. My question is: Will there be enough F-roads still open then to make it worth my while (and extra money)to rent the 4x4 campervan versus a 2x4 model? Thank you!
We are going on the 24.july and rent a car and will camp for 5 nights in a tent ⛺️ and we will stay 2 nights in a guesthouse in Reykjavik. First time for us in Iceland 🇮🇸 . 😀
We (2 retired ladies) will rent a car and tent camp for the first 2 weeks of August! Last year we drove to the Arctic ocean via Yukon territories in Canada.
Any jobs for immigrants or non-citizens? Like im from Canada and would love to just literally make minimum wage job and live in Iceland. Any ideas would be useful. Thank you ^_^
I think there is a confusion between camping in a tent and sleeping in a campervan
Yeah I was looking for actual camping info

I visited Iceland last year. It is the most unique country I have ever seen in my life. Loved it!
Agreed, and I have been to a lot of other countries! 💚
Campervaning in Iceland in a month. Thank you so much for your information! I’m so stoked to go!!
Cold and rainy is exactly the weather I'm looking for.

It's really so important! And ALWAYS be safe!
I see great places to camp if I can deal with your summer which is like my winters. But the views are beautiful, surreal, and so unique.
Camping in a tent from late August to mid September! Looking forward to it!
Thinking about doing the same, hopefully it's not too cold!
how did it go

You said someone can camp with just their vehicle (not a campervan) but only under very specific regulations, what are those regulations?
Helpful as always. We venture over this July! Elbow to elbow with the rest of the world but still looking firward to some nice places and spaces
Thanks for the information we will camp at August we think about it 😀👍🏼 greetings from Germany 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
hmm... Good tips, especialy the camping card, i m staying 3 weeks in a tent ...in september
Great video. Iceland is on our bucket list and we are debating camping.
Thank you. Heading Iceland for one week July and have hired a campervan. Very helpful ❤️
Which company did you book the campervan with?

How comfortable is Campervan for sleeping ?
They are surprisingly comfortable! It's really a great way to explore Iceland.
@@IcelandwithaView but how is one able to sleep in them in such cold weather ?
Traveling in two days 😱 first camping experience in a van.. tried buying your ebook but payment Apple Pay failed I’m going to have to try again tomorrow!
Is it possible to sleep in a normal rental car? That would make it even simpler. You park, then roll out your sleeping bag on the backseat
If your rental car can provide you with the comfort and amenities you need then go for it - as long as you are parked/sleeping at a designated camping ground. Keep in mind that your car will be COLD and you won't be able to charge your devices while the car is off.

The problems is too much rules. The country needs tourists, should be more flexible.
where do you poop
You don't. So don't extend your trip beyond 14 days else it gets dangerous
